Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to measure and evaluate the quality of banking services with the use of the SERVPERF method. The questionnaire method was applied in the study. The questionnaire was composed of two parts. The first part covered certificate questions specifying the customers of the bank and the second substantial part included the questions of the SERVPERF questionnaire. The author of this paper has studied merely the quality performance pursuant to the assumption of the SERVPERF method adopting the expectations of the customers at the maximum level. The analysis of the results of the carried out study demonstrates that the biggest quality gap was observed for the dimension tangibles. The study of diversification showed that tangibles, empathy and responsiveness are diversified only by one factor. Education of the respondents was a variable that diversified the greatest number of dimensions.

Analiza sekwencji kilku loci nosząca nazwę barkodingu, została wykorzystana do identyfikacji gatunków roślinwystępujących w środkowoeuropejskich zbiorowisk traworoślowych. W toku analizy przebadano użyteczność 14 regionów chloroplastowych i jednego jądrowego do identyfikacji gatunków. Osiem spośród nich (matK, rbcL, rpoC1, trnH-psbA, atpF-atpH, trnL, psbI-psbK i ITS) wykorzystano do stworzenia kombinacji barkodów, które umożliwiają określenie tożsamości próbki tkanki roślinnej o pochodzeniu łąkowym, bez konieczności porównania z kluczem do oznaczania roślin.
Barcoding analysis of the sequence of several loci was used to identify plant species that compose the Central European graminoid communities. During the analysis, the usefulness of 14 chloroplast regions and one nuclear region for species identification was investigated. Eight of these (matK, rbcL, rpoC1, trnH-psbA, atpF-atpH, trnL, psbI-psbK and ITS) were used to construct a combination of barcodes that will allow a determination of the taxonomic identity of a sample of plant tissue of meadow origin, without the need of utilising standard determination keys based on morphological characters.

Opis:
The article is a commentary on the Code of Ethics of the Polish Historical Association published in March 2021. In the first part of the article, we critically discuss the Code using the metaphor of a “besieged fortress” and the categories of hierarchy and truth. In our view, by taking a defensive position, reproducing hierarchical relations within the community of historians and in relation to the public, and by placing the category of truth at the centre of the principles of the discipline, the authors of the Code do not respond to the contemporary challenges facing history. In the second part, we postulate the rebuilding of the Code on the basis of the categories of dialogue, polyphony and democracy, and we propose a number of amendments to its content.

Opis:
The study concerned the effect of elicitors on the contents of free flavonoids and phenolic acids, as well as their esters and glycosides, and contents of minerals in 7-day sprouts of common buckwheat. An aqueous solution containing a mixture of sodium silicate and Fe-EDTA (SIL-Fe) was compared with the same concentration of sodium silicate alone (SIL) and water (control). Phenolic compounds were analysed using an HPLC–MS/MS apparatus equipped with an ion-trap mass spectrometer, and analyses were conducted by multiple reaction monitoring of selected negative ions. The contents of macro- and microelements in sprouts were determined by the ICP-AES method, after sample mineralization in a mixture of HNO3 and H2O2. The study showed that SIL-Fe influenced the accumulation of individual phenolics in buckwheat sprouts in different ways. Among the major flavonoids in the buckwheat sprouts treated with SIL-Fe, the content of free forms and esters of (‒)-epicatechin and glycosides of quercetin as well as the total content of flavonoids decreased. Elicitation of buckwheat sprouts with SIL and SIL-Fe reduced the contents of calcium, potassium, copper, and zinc; however, the SIL-Fe treatment caused a 5-fold increase in iron content and a 2-fold increase in silicon content. The ratio of total flavonoids to the iron content of SIL-Fe-treated sprouts was 11.5, which was substantially lower than in the control, where it reached 64. The results of this study indicate that it is possible to produce buckwheat sprouts with a high content of flavonoids and fortified with iron, which may increase the availability of this element.

Opis:
One of the most interesting categories of artifacts for archaeometallurgical research includes deposits of bronze items, so-called “metallurgists hoards”. They contain, aside of final products, many fragments of raw material and, moreover, metallurgical tools. An important source for the studies on the history of metallurgical technology is hoard from Przybysław, Greater Poland district. Thus, the aim of the work is the identification and interpretation of bronze-working practices and strategies adopted by prehistoric communities of the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age (ca. 600 BC). The examined objects are characterized in terms of their design, structure, and chemical composition. The methods chosen for the studies of artifacts include: metallographic macro- and microscopic observations using optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the analysis of chemical composition with the methods of energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray fluorescence (ED-XRF). The thermodynamic analysis of the alloys was performed on the basis of the CALPHAD method. The experimental melts allowed to verify the theoretical considerations and to determine the characteristic temperatures of changes. The old casting technology can be analyzed basing on computer modeling and computer simulation methods. Simulations in the MAGMASOFT® software are a good example to illustrate how to fill a mould cavity with a molten bronze for a hoop ornament. It is also an appropriate tool to determine temperature distribution in a mould. The simulations also show the possible disadvantages with this old technology.

ObjectivesThe aim of the presented study was to compare the health locus of control (HLC) between employed and unemployed patients after kidney transplantation (KT), and to investigate the relationship between HLC and the quality of life (QoL).Material and MethodsThe study group consisted of 101 KT patients and the control group of 60 hemodialysis (HD) patients. The applied methods were: the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Questionnaire (MHLC), the WHO Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQoL-BREF), and a survey collecting information on the socio-demographic status and work experience.ResultsOverall, 57.5% of KT patients were employed and 42.5% were unemployed. In the HD group, 25% were employed and 71% were unemployed, while 4% did not disclose their employment status. The unemployed KT patients, in comparison with the employed ones, presented a higher feeling of the impact of chance on their health (unemployed M±SD 23.68±6.59; employed M±SD 21.02±4.57) and a lower level of QoL on the Somatic Scale (unemployed Me = 14.00, IQR = 3.00; employed Me = 1450, IQR = 3.00) and the Environmental Scale (unemployed M±SD 15.39±2.83; employed M±SD 16.85±3.24). In the employed KT group, the Internal Control Scale (MHLC) correlated with all QoL scales (the Somatic Scale: r = 0.292, p = 0.036; the Psychological Scale: r = 0.455, p = 0.001; the Social Scale: r = 0.304, p = 0.029; and the Environmental Scale: r = 0.307, p = 0.027). In the unemployed KT group, the Internal Control Scale (MHLC) correlated significantly with the Somatic Scale (r = 0.396, p = 0.013) and the Psychological Scale (r = 0.374, p = 0.019).ConclusionsThe employed KT patients have a higher level of independence, with results indicating a strong internal type. Additionally, the working patients assess their QoL better, both in terms of their health condition and the organization of satisfying environment. The obtained knowledge about the psychological characteristics of KT patients may be useful for the occupational activation programs and psycho-education for those with weaker predispositions.

Opis:
Methyl jasmonate has a strong effect on secondary metabolizm in plants, by stimulating the biosynthesis a number of phenolic compounds and alkaloids. Common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) is an important source of biologically active compounds. This research focuses on the detection and quantification of 2-phenylethylamine and its possible metabolites in the cotyledons, hypocotyl and roots of common buckwheat seedlings treated with methyl jasmonate. In cotyledons of buckwheat sprouts, only traces of 2-phenylethylamine were found, while in the hypocotyl and roots its concentration was about 150 and 1000-times higher, respectively. Treatment with methyl jasmonate resulted in a 4-fold increase of the 2-phenylethylamine level in the cotyledons of 7-day buckwheat seedlings, and an 11-fold and 5-fold increase in hypocotyl and roots, respectively. Methyl jasmonate treatment led also to about 4-fold increase of phenylacetic acid content in all examined seedling organs, but did not affect the 2-phenylethanol level in cotyledons, and slightly enhanced in hypocotyl and roots. It has been suggested that 2-phenylethylamine is a substrate for the biosynthesis of phenylacetic acid and 2-phenylethanol, as well as cinnamoyl 2-phenethylamide. In organs of buckwheat seedling treated with methyl jasmonate, higher amounts of aromatic amino acid transaminase mRNA were found. The enzyme can be involved in the synthesis of phenylpyruvic acid, but the presence of this compound could not be confirmed in any of the examined organs of common buckwheat seedling.

The HLC (Heritage–Landscape–Community) archaeological metaproject, carried out since 2016 by the Jagiellonian University in cooperation with the Department of Antiquities, Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, targets the archaeological heritage of southern Jordan (Tafila region), focusing currently on remains of the Early Bronze Age and earlier cultures that were found in the region. The project has already identified and verified several previously undocumented or poorly documented sites. Its main objective is to establish chronological phasing of human activity in this microregion, particularly during the Early Bronze Age, and to assess the scale and nature of human presence in that period. Two sites, Faysaliyya and Munqata’a, were excavated within the frame of the project. The article presents the preliminary results of this work. An important side issue is the protection of Jordanian heritage in the Tafila region through the identification of natural and human agents that may damage or destroy it.

A complex view of the prehistory in southern Jordan emerges from the excavations of the Jagiellonian University team, which carried out in 2018 its second season of fieldwork at the sites of Munqata’a and Faysaliyya, even as analyses of finds from the previous season were underway. Human communities living here in the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age practiced both sedentary and mobile lifestyles. The changing landscape around them, caused by natural erosion processes and periodical climate change, is also taken into consideration while interpreting the explored relics.
