Opis:
Cloaking devices designed using the coordinate transform approach were shown to be realizable, at least in principle, within the realm of electromagnetic metamaterials. In this paper we investigate the strictness of conditions imposed on the parameters of metamaterial cloaks by calculating the degree of wave scattering when those parameters have variations with respect to theoretically ideal values. A simple idea is used to obtain analytic results for the case of the nonideal two-dimensional cloaking cylinder. Also, results of realistic finite element simulations of the Helmholtz equation are presented and it is found that they are in excellent agreement with the analytic results.

Opis:
We have performed ab initio electronic structure calculations of $Mg_{1-x}B_{x}H_{2}$ compounds with different boron concentrations, ranging from x =0.0625 to 0.5. Full structural relaxation was performed in order to properly describe influence of dopant on host matrix. Results showed that there is a strong influence of boron concentration on structural and thermodynamic stability of compound. B-H bond length is substantially shorter then in Mg-H coordination polyhedron. Boron significantly contributes to density of states at Fermi level within energy gap. The width of boron electronic states heavily depends on boron concentration, causing reduction of energy gap of host $MgH_{2}$, and leading to metallic nature of compound with highest boron concentration. The predicted thermodynamic instability of compounds with higher boron concentration is in agreement with experimental findings that under similar stoichiometry, boron with magnesium forms only complex hydride, $Mg(BH_{4})_{2}$. It is also shown that existence of stable hydrides with $MgH_{2}$ rutile structure and small concentration of boron is possible in principle and that boron can be used to further destabilize $MgH_{2}$ in order to enhance its hydrogen sorption-desorption kinetics.

Opis:
In this study, we compared the compositions, antimicrobial and potential antioxidant activities of essential oils of two Thymus endemic, wild-growing species – T. malyi Ronninger and T. lykae Degen et Jav. No information about its composition and biological activities of oils has been reported to the present day. Forty three compounds were identified from T. malyi and major component was α-pinene (26.4%). In the case of T. lykae, forty four compounds were identified, with geranyl acetate (35.1%) as the main component. Antioxidant activities of the oils were evaluated using DPPH assay. The antimicrobial effect of essential oils were tested against Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacteria, and two fungi. Results indicated higher antibacterial activity of the essential oils of T. lykae in comparison with T. malyi, while for antifungal activity, it was reverse. The essential oils from T. malyi and T. lykae possess antioxidant and antimicrobial activities and could be used as a potential source of natural antioxidants for the food industry.
