Opis:
This article is an empirical analysis of modern Sino-Russian Economic and Political Relations based on past events and present data. This issue has recently been an important question for many scholars. Both countries became neighbours only in 17th century, but the history of their mutual relations is much deeper. At a time when China is rising and its position in world affairs is getting stronger, analysis of its foreign policy towards its neighbour is extremely interesting. On the other side of the fence, a former great power, is becoming less important on the world stage: its actions may be important for the worldwide community. This analysis covers political relations, connections and ties in present times. It also explains some cultural obstacles in a hard way to achieve equilibrium in the relations. The part which covers economic relations tries to prove, that the trade imbalance is in China’s favour and that common border issues are extremely significant for both countries. Last but not least the importance of energy cooperation and the obstacles in building common pipeline are covered.

Opis:
Objectives: The aim was to evaluate the position of the cochlear implant electrode inside the cochlea and damage to cochlear structures associated with the implantation itself using cone beam computed tomography technique (CBCT). Material and methods: Nine human cadaver temporal bones were used, five were implanted with round window approach and in other four anterior cochleostomy was used for insertion. After implantation the temporal boneswere scanned with CBCT scanner and the images were then analyzed. The degree of insertion damage was evaluated in two-tier scale, where the first degree included damage to basilar membrane, and the second degree covered damage associated with pushing up into the scala vestibuli. Results: The first degree of cochlear damage was noted in three temporal bones implanted with the round window approach and in two with cochleostomy, and the second degree of damage was noted in two and one temporal bones respectively. The analysis did not show any correlations between depth of insertion and degree and extend of damage in both analyzed groups, also no significant differences were found between the two groups. Conclusions: The good quality of the images presents CBCT as a good method for the evaluation of the cochlear implant electrode position in the inner ear structures. CBCT holds the promise for intraoperative imagining during cochlear implantation.

Opis:
The increasing antibiotic resistance of pathogenic bacteria calls for the development of alternative antimicrobial strategies. Possible approaches include the development of novel, broad-spectrum antibiotics as well as specific targeting of individual bacterial virulence factors. It is impossible to decide currently which strategy will prove more successful in the future since they both promise different advantages, but also introduce diverse problems. Considering both approaches, our laboratory's research focuses on the evaluation of hemocidins, broad-spectrum antibacterial peptides derived from hemoglobin and myoglobin, and staphostatins, specific inhibitors of staphopains - Staphylococcus aureus secreted proteases that are virulence factors regarded as possible targets for therapy. The article summarizes recent advances in both fields of study and presents perspectives for further development and possible applications.
