Opis:
In this paper, we discuss the first setup of a hydrodynamic model for the fjord-type estuary Kangerlussuaq, located in West Greenland. Having such a high-fidelity numerical model is important because it allows us to fill in the temporal and spatial gaps left by in situ data and it allows us to examine the response of the fjord to changes in ice sheet runoff. The numerical model is calibrated against in situ data, and a one-year simulation was performed to study the seasonal variability in the physical oceanographic environment and the fjord's response to changing meltwater runoff. The fjord consists of two distinct parts: a deep inner part that is 80 km long with weak currents and a shallow part that covers the outer 100 km of the fjord connected to the ocean. The outer part has very fast currents (∼1.3 m/s), which we suggest prevents winter sea ice formation. The dominant currents in the fjord are oriented parallel to the long axis of the fjord and are driven by tides and (during summer) freshwater inflow from meltwater-fed rivers. Furthermore, mixing processes are characterized by strong tidal mixing and bathymetric restrictions, and the deep-lying water mass is subject to renewal primarily in wintertime and is almost dynamically decoupled from the open ocean during summertime. Finally, a sensitivity study on the changing meltwater runoff was performed, showing that increasing freshwater runoff considerably strengthens stratification in the upper 100 m of the water column in the inner part of the fjord.

Opis:
Bottom-mounted acoustic Doppler current profiler measurements indicate that the net transport of water (844 m3 s−1) in the Little Belt makes up only 6% of the total transport between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. This is a smaller percentage than the 9% commonly found in the literature. Owing to barotropic and tidal currents the gross transport is 5 times larger. The net transport is directed towards the North Sea mainly in the top 32 m of the water column but towards the Baltic Sea it occurs in the lower 5 m of the water column. The resulting transport of phosphorus is strongly affected by vertical mixing in an area of hydraulic control in the narrow part of the Little Belt. Comparisons of phosphorus profiles in stratified waters and in the mixing area indicate a yearly entrainment of 15 tonnes P from the bottom water to the surface layer. This vertical transport of P forms part of an internal loop in the general transport between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. Compared to the transport observed 15–16 years ago, the present net phosphorus transport of 163 tonnes yr−1 from the Baltic Sea through the Little Belt is substantially lower.

Opis:
An organization’s environmental performance is affected by its suppliers’ environmental performance, and selecting green suppliers is a strategic decision in order to be more competitive in today’s global market. By developing green movement across the globe, organizations are under pressure to reduce the emissions across their supply chain. Formerly the food production systems was oriented and optimized to satisfy economic demands and the nutritional needs of a rapidly growing world population. The food production industry requires large inputs of resources and causes several negative environmental effects. In recent years, environment factors rapidly emerging as an important issue for decision makers in food industries. This study identifies best supplier in holistic perspective for edible oil production, and proposes a hybrid model using Delphi method and Green Data Envelopment Analysis (GDEA). Delphi method identifies the main criteria influenced in supplier selection process based on opinion of company purchase experts. GDEA evaluates the overall performances of suppliers and choose green supplier. Proposed hybrid model applied to a well-known company who produce edible oil (palm, soybean and olive oil) to evaluate green suppliers (among 13 main potential suppliers). Delphi questionnaire included 17 factors which were from financial, services, qualitative and environmental factors. The factors with the highest Delphi score (raw material price, quality, delivery and carbon footprint) entered in DEA model and high efficiency suppliers selected. Results showed that the most efficient raw oil suppliers of company are: S4 among soybean oil suppliers, P1 among palm oil suppliers and O3 among olive oil suppliers. Also palm oil not only has fewer price and carbon footprint but also the highest mean efficiency.
