Opis:
In this paper, the effect of mutual inductance (M) and its optimization on the output pulse rise time in Tesla coils is investigated. A numerical method is proposed to calculate the mutual inductance in a Tesla coil. The method is verified by performing some experiments. Eventually, the conditions for maximum voltage gain for ordinary Tesla coil and autotransformer connected one are surveyed.

Opis:
High power semiconductor opening switches (SOSs) with $P^+PNN^+$ doping profile have been used in different pulsed power applications because of their fast high current interruption capability. In high pulsed power applications with high repetition rate, temperature increase of the semiconductor switch during its operation is no more negligible. In this paper, the cut-off characteristics of SOSs with different doping profiles are compared and then the impact of the temperature increase on the performance of the semiconductor opening switch is investigated using a detailed physical model. The simulation results indicate that due to the temperature increase of the switch, both the current amplitude and the cut-off characteristics of the switch are affected. Semiconductor opening switches with different base materials (Si and SiC) are studied. Due to favorable intrinsic characteristics of SiC (higher thermal conductivity, higher saturation velocity and higher breakdown electric field), the performance of the SOS can be enhanced using SiC as the base material and the design of compact high pulsed power applications can be achieved.

Opis:
Compact Marx generators are widely used as portable pulse generator in different industrial applications, where high power pulses with rise times of order of some tens of nanoseconds are needed. For those applications, closing switches with very short delay and jitter times have to be used. Considering the fact that the breakdown of spark gap is a statistical process, the delay times of the closing switches are statistical voltage-dependent parameters. As a result, the characteristics of the output voltage of the Marx generator, i.e. its amplitude and rise time, are also statistical parameters. In this paper, taking the statistical behaviour of the breakdown process in spark gaps into consideration, the statistical characteristics of the output voltage have been studied in detail.

Opis:
In this paper, to calculate overvoltage in air-cored transformer windings under very fast transient overvoltage, firstly, the voltage transfer functions are calculated which are measured by network analyser or calculated from the distributed parameters of transformer windings. Secondly, the voltage transfer functions are fitted with rational functions by vector fitting codes and then the rational transfer functions are order-reduced by the Pade approximation. Lastly, the resultant voltage transfer functions are synthesized by the elements in Electromagnetic Transients program. The calculated voltages from the circuit by Electromagnetic Transients program are in good agreement with the measured voltages. This shows that the method is simple and robust.
