Opis:
Human impacts on landscapes pose serious threats to Central European landscapes (e.g. urban sprawl, land consumption and loss of landscape diversity and biodiversity) and consequently, influence quality of life as landscapes are a key factor in individual and social well-being and affect everybody. Therefore, public participation is an issue of great significance when elaborating visions and action plans for sustainable landscape development. In order to implement participatory discussion of landscape issues, "landscape dialogues" in the Austrian LEADER region Mühlviertler Kernland were organised in the framework of the VITAL LANDSCAPES project. The introduced method proved to be an adequate instrument to create awareness and to give local people a forum to elaborate on visions and concrete actions for sustainable landscape development. In the course of the "landscape dialogues", complex issues of landscape development, e.g. the renewal of village cores, the cultivation of low-productive grasslands, the management of small-structured landscape elements as well as the increase of renewable energy use were addressed and gave impulses in some involved municipalities to continue the discussion in communicative and participatory planning processes within the Local Agenda 21 framework.

In addition to the natural-physical aspects of landscape, the public perception of landscapes is of central importance for a comprehensive understanding of landscape. This paper reflects different landscape perceptions on the basis of a photo competition and school workshops. These were conducted in the VITAL LANDSCAPES project as part of a regional participation process in the Upper Austrian LEADER region Mühlviertler Kernland. The authors analysed the photos submitted in the regional photo competition as well as the short films produced by secondary and vocational school students with regard to how the participants perceive the landscapes they inhabit. This paper argues that human-nature relations form an intrinsic part of the regional landscape perception and that depictions of local/regional landscape particularities contribute to forming personal and collective identities.

We report a comprehensive investigation of native point defects and impurities in GaN, AlN, and AlGaN alloys, with the goal of understanding doping limitations in nitride semiconductors. Unintentional incorporation of impurities (mainly oxygen) explains the tendency of nitride semiconductors to exhibit n-type conductivity. Silicon is the n-type dopant of choice; it remains shallow in AlGaN up to high Al content, while oxygen undergoes a DX transition. Experimental evidence for DX centers will be discussed. In p-type material, Mg doping is hindered by an increase in ionization energy with increasing Al content in AlGaN, and by nitrogen vacancies acting as compensating centers. Complex formation between magnesium and oxygen and between magnesium and nitrogen vacancies will be discussed.

The object of the study was Tyrsko Lake (area 18.6 ha, max. depth 30.4 m), located in the western part of Olsztyn (Olsztyn Lakeland). This lake is one of the clear water lakes in Olsztyn, but the progressive deterioration of water quality has been observed during recent years. The phosphorus concentration in the water-sediment interface, phosphorus fractions quantity and the amount of components which can bind this element was investigated in the upper (0–5 cm) layer of deposits. The aim of study was to analyze the potential influence of bottom sediment on the lake water quality. The obtained results revealed that the bottom sediment of Tyrsko Lake can be classified as mixed, silica-organic type, with a relatively high content of iron (over 4% Fe in d.w.). The total phosphorus content was ca. 3.5 mg P g,-1 d.w. on average. Phosphorus in the bottom sediment was bound mainly with organic matter (NaOH-nrP fraction), which had over 50% share in TP. Highly mobile fractions (NH4-Cl-P and BD-P) together only included ca. 5% to 7% TP. The obtained results show that the bottom sediment of Tyrsko Lake can bind phosphorus quite effectively. The calculated internal mineral phosphorus loading during summer stagnation period was 10.9 kg and it was lower that the assessed annual external phosphorus load (22.6 kg). The assessed annual phosphorus loading from both sources was still lower than the critical load according to Vollenweider criteria. However, due to the fact that the internal loading phenomenon is occurring in the lake, it should be taken into consideration that the lake water quality can deteriorate gradually during the longer time perspective. These findings should be accounted for in the future if the potential protection and restoration procedures will be developed.
