Opis:
Paleomagnetic and petrological analyses were performed on Devonian carbonate rocks from the Kielce region (Janczyce 1 borehole, Dule, Łagowica escarpment, Budy Quarry) in the Holy Cross Mts. Rock samples were selected from localities with different degree of thermal alteration, diversified lithology and stratigraphy. Investigated carbonates, excluding those from the Budy Quarry, revealed traces of the Early Permian remagnetization related to magnetite. The intensity of the Late Variscan remagnetization is linked to rocks affected by the second stage of dolomitization with increased thermal maturity in the northern part of the Kielce region. The magnetic signal is probably related to rocks’self-cooling, fixed as a result of the latest Carboniferous to Early Permian uplift.

Opis:
Detailed conodont data were obtained from 66 samples in 9 deep wells representative of three palaeogeographic regions of the Mid Devonian epicontinental basin of southeastern Poland: (1) the elevated part of the East European Platform representing the basin margin, (2) the Lublin Graben with a larger proportion of open marine systems, (3) the Radom Area characterized by more off shore, purely marine deposition and larger subsidence rates in the Radom Area. The 1344 specimens collected were as signed to 8 genera: Icriodus, Polygnathus, Ancyrodella, Belodella, Mehlina, Neopanderodus, Pandorinellina and Skeletognathus, and 38 taxa of species or subspecies rank. The vertical distribution of the conodont as semblages studied in particu ar sections is highly irregular and discontinuous with many barren intervals con rolled by less suitable palaeocological conditions, mostly representing restricted and/or very shallow-water facies. We found only a single index species characteristic of deeper marine facies, as applied in the standard conodont zonation. There -fore the biostratigraphic interpretation also takes into account the total range of all taxa found in particular samples, established after acritical analysis of adequately published total ranges of these taxa. The stratigraphicranges of the following taxa were modified: Icriodus arkonensis arkonensis, I. a. walliserianus, I. eslaensis, I. platyobliquimarginatus, I. subterminus, I. aff. I. subterminus, Polygnathus ansatus, P. latifossatus, P. linguiformis linguiformis, P. timorensis and P. varcus. As a result of the stratigraphic analysis of the conodon't assemblages we distin guished five zones in the Givetian of the studied area, i.e. the rhenanus/varcus, ansatus, hermanni, norrisi (=lower part of Lower falsiovalis Zone) zones, and also two in formal units, the subterminus and insita fau nas. We documented the co-occurrence of I. subterminus and P. latifossatus which supports the earlier supposition of Rogers (1998) that the Lower subterminus Fauna may partly corre pond to the Lower hermanni Zone.

Opis:
This paper describes preparation and characterization of carbon nanotubes obtaining using ethylene as a carbon source and iron as catalyst. Additionally purification procedure of carbon nanomaterials is presented. Purification was conducted in two stages. In the first one hydrogen or air was used in order to gasify unwanted carbon forms. In the second one - various reactants (nitric, hydrochloric or nitro-hydrochloric acids) were applied to remove metal particles. Obtained materials were characterized using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and thermogravimetry.

Opis:
The objective of this work is to produce activated carbon from sugar beet molasses containing TiO₂ for CO₂ adsorption and reduction. Textural properties of activated carbons were obtained based on the adsorption-desorption isotherms of nitrogen at 77 K. The specific surface areas of activated carbons were calculated by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method. The volumes of micropores were obtained by density functional theory method. The adsorption isotherms of CO₂ were measured up to the pressure of 1 atm at a temperature of 40°C. The best activated carbon adsorbed 1.9 mmol/g of CO₂.

Opis:
The middle and upper parts of the Skały Fm, Early to Middle Givetian in age, were investigated in four sections at Miłoszów Wood in the Łysogóry Region (northern region of the Holy Cross Mountains, central Poland). The dating is based on conodonts (Polygnathus timorensis Zone to the later part of the Polygnathus varcus/Polygnathus rhenanus Zone; early Polygnathus ansatus Zone cannot be excluded) and spores (Ex1–2 subzones) and, coupled with cartographic analysis and geophysical investigation, allows correlation within the strongly faulted succession. Significant lateral facies variations within the carbonate ramp depositional system in comparison with the better studied Grzegorzowice–Skały section, about 3 km distant, are documented, thanks to conodont-based correlation of both successions. Foraminifers, fungi, sponges, rugose and tabulate corals, medusozoans, microconchids and cornulitids, polychaetes (scolecodonts), molluscs (bivalves, rostroconchs, and gastropods), arthropods (trilobites and ostracods), bryozoans, hederelloids, ascodictyids, brachiopods, echinoderms (mostly crinoids, rare echinoids, holuthurians, and ophiocistoids), conodonts, fish, plants (prasinophytes, chlorophycophytes, and land plant spores), and acritarchs are present. Brachiopods are the most diverse phylum present (68 species), other richly represented groups are bryozoans and echinoderms; in contrast, cephalopods and trilobites are low in diversity and abundance. The muddy, middle to outer ramp biota (200 marine taxa, including 170 species of marine animals, 22 photoautotrophs, 6 forams) represents a mixture of allochthonous shallower-water communities (upper BA3), including storm- and possibly tsunami-affected coral mounds, and autochthonous deep-water soft-bottom brachiopod (e.g., Bifida–Echinocoelia) communities (BA 4–5). The richness and diversity of the Miłoszów biota is relatively high, comparable with other approximately coeval pre-Taghanic ecosystems during the Devonian climatic deterioration (cooling). Preliminary data indicate that in the Holy Cross Mountains, no large-scale replacement of brachiopod (and probably many other benthic ones, like crinoids) communities took place between the Early–Middle Givetian and the Early Frasnian, in contrast to the demise of the Hamilton/Upper Tully fauna in the Appalachian Basin. Such a similarity of pre- and post-Taghanic faunas does not exclude the occurrence of environmental perturbations and transient community turnovers, caused by immigrations during the Taghanic Biocrisis, but evidences the successful recovery of the indigenous biota.
