Opis:
This publication contains the information concerning illegal operations of the German intelligence in the years 1918-1927, ascertained by the Polish special services – the Second Department of the Polish General Staff (the Second Department). The paper is based on source documents currently stored by the Institute of National Remembrance and the Central Military Archive. Therefore, the information contained herein represents the data available to the Second Department in the relevant period. The Treaty of Versailles imposed military restrictions on Germany, limiting significantly their offensive capabilities. Driven by desires of further expansion and as a result of not coming to terms with the outcome of the Great War, the Abwehr had the government organizations operating in Poland infiltrated by undercover officers of the former Imperial German intelligence service. The most important ones included Consul, Zentrale Wannsee and Burgwall. In addition, the Second Department identified 16 detective bureaux receiving commissions from the Abwehr and eleven commercial establishments cooperating with the intelligence service. Furthermore, numerous officers of the pre-war German intelligence service did not find employment with the state, which gave rise to the rank-and-file initiative to create private intelligence bureaux. The pre-war connections were still maintained. The substantive value of the text consists in identifying the said organizations and presenting the then available information about them. Such data can be useful for researchers of the period of revival of the Polish State, methods employed for “bypassing” the Treaty of Versailles by the German Reich and the activity of German organizations in Poland in the relevant period. Furthermore, the paper may serve as a case study for the infiltration of organizations seemingly unrelated to the armed forces by intelligence agents.

Opis:
This publication summarizes the current state of knowledge on the development of the selected microbial groups: (cellulolytic, proteolytic, nitryfication bacteria and fungi) and microbiocenotic changes in the composition of the soil microflora and microbial processes occurring in the soil environment and rhizosphere plants after the application of sewage sludge as fertilizer. Moreover, both the positive and the negative impacts of sewage sludge on chemical composition of soil and soil microflora activity were discussed. Cited publications have confirmed that as a soil fertilizer, the most favorable are the sewage sludge from agro-food industries, mainly because the degree of pollutions and toxic substances is small. Application of the sewage sludge has increased organic carbon content, total nitrogen and bioavailable forms of phosphorus and potassium. One of the most common result was a higher biological activity of the soil and an increase in the number of bacteria (oligo-, macrotrophic), thermophilic Actinomycetes and fungi (filamentous, celluolytic) and an increase in the activity of microbial processes such as: ammonification, nitrification and denitrification. During the first period of fertilizing the soil some adverse changes in the structure of the endogenous microflora were noted, which entered the pathogenic viruses, bacteria (Salmonella, Shigella), and fungi (Aspergillus, Fusarium, Penicillium) coming from the sewage sludge. With the passage of time some egzogenic microflora was displaced by indigenous microorganisms. The results of the stimulating effects of sewage sludge remained for a long time and were mostly observed in soil at the application level.

Opis:
Assisted phytostabilisation involves the use of plants and soil additives for physical stabilization of the soil and chemical immobilization of contaminants. This technique aims to establish a vegetation cover with metal-tolerant plants and thus reduce leaching of metals. The main aim is to reduce the risk of incorporation of metal into the food chain. In the conducted experiment contaminated soil was collected from the area surrounding a zinc smelter in Miasteczko Slaskie, in the Silesia region of Poland. Soil in the study area has been contaminated with metals, especially Cd, Pb and Zn. Moreover, soils of the study area are also acidified. The role of sewage sludge and inorganic amendments as an immobilising agents in the attenuating phytostabilisation of metal-contaminated soil was evaluated using grass species Festucaarundinacea Schreb. The biosolid used was anaerobically digested sewage sludge, collected from the industrial waste water treatment plant and juices manufacturer (food industry). The soil was mixed with sewage sludge (sewage sludge accounted for 1and 3% of dry weight), lime and inorganic fertilizers (potassium phosphate, TSP at 0.8% each). A plant growth experiment was conducted in a growth chamber for 10 weeks. The plants were grown under artificial conditions, suitable for proper growth of plants. Plants growing on amended soil were devoid of any macroscopic symptoms of metal toxicity or nutrient deficiency, in contrast to plants grown on non-amended soil, where growth was inhibited and some phytotoxic effects were observed. For amended soil, plant growth was most likely influenced by improved soil conditions due to nutrient-rich amendments and metals immobilisation. Mobile fractions of metals decreased in amended soil, and the same pattern was observed for metal concentrations in plant tissues. However, the best results were obtained for the variants of combined application of sewage sludge and inorganic amendments. All investigated metals accumulated mainly in root tissues in combination with sewage sludge application. A significant reduction in metal uptake by plants was achieved after sewage sludge application, which is attributed to decreased bioavailability and the stabilisation of metals in soil. In the experiment the introduction of soil liming treatment allowed to maintain the pH at a constant level after 10 weeks of the experiment (5.5–7) (Fig. 1). The K5-K10 variants achieved a significant reduction in bioavailable forms (0.01 M CaCl2 extraction). In a study of biomass (Fig. 3) the highest yield (5.5 g DM) was obtained for the combined use of a combination of potassium and phosphate deposits and combinations of superphosphate and combined use of sewage sludge (2.5 g DM/pot). The highest immobilization effects were obtained for combined application of sewage sludge, lime fertilizer and superphosphate or potassium phosphate as compared to other options. The highest degree of immobilization of three tested heavy metals: cadmium, zinc and lead was obtained only with the application of sewage sludge and mineral amendments at a dose of TW +FP 0.8% + 1% d.m. sewage sludge. Effective process of chemophytostabilisation with the use of grass and organic additive and inorganic additives in situ sandy areas and heavily contaminated with heavy metals, can be obtained solely with the combined use of investigated additives and treatment.

Opis:
Background The purpose of the study was to determine to what degree social support is differentiated by family situation, with consideration of single motherhood as a difficult circumstance, and to establish if social support is significant for satisfaction with work in the studied group of mothers. Material and Methods The sample consisted of 421 mothers: 206 (49%) of them were in a formal or casual relationship, and the remaining 215 (51%) were single mothers. The sample was studied by means of the Berlin Social Support Scales (BSSS), and the Scale of Satisfaction with Work. Results The results showed that single mothers perceived and obtained significantly less social support than mothers in relationships, and they offered to their relatives much more protective support (p = 0.006). Satisfaction with work among mothers – regardless of the family status – grows if the mother receives more social support. The information support received by mothers in relationships is not significantly related to satisfaction with work; seeking that type of support by single mothers does not have a meaningful relationship with satisfaction with work, either. Moreover, regardless of the mothers’ family status, satisfaction with work is significantly differentiated by each type of social support, except for protective support. Conclusions Social support is differentiated by the mothers’ situation in the family and at work, and it has a different impact on single mothers from the impact on mothers in relationships. Opis:
Objectives: The purpose of the study has been to describe functioning of single and mothers in relationships (married or in informal relationships) at work and verify if the declared degree of work satisfaction differentiates types of behavior at work and stress coping strategies in both groups of mothers. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on equal samples of single mothers (N = 186) and mothers from 2-parent families (N = 186) using Latack Coping Scale that measures work-related stress coping strategies, the AVEM (Arbeitsbezogenes Verhaltens- und Erlebensmuster – Work-Related Behavior and Experience Pattern) questionnaire, and a survey. It showed similarity between the studied groups in terms of the measured variables. Results: There were considerable differences between single and married mothers in terms of support seeking strategies. The interaction of work satisfaction and the type of motherhood significantly differentiates (p = 0.03) the avoidance strategy of resignation. Conclusions: That strategy of resignation was more frequently used by single mothers with lower work satisfaction, who were distinctly different from those whose work satisfaction was higher, and from the mothers in relationships (married or in informal relationships) (regardless of the level of their work satisfaction).
