This article discusses relations between Foucault’s history of sexuality and the contemporary transformations of eroticism diagnosed by Wojciech Klimczyk. The Klimczyk’s studies are interpreted in the perspective of theoretical tools provided by Foucault and seem to lead to an interesting conclusions. Peculiarity of those conclusions is especially connected with the fact that they are opposite to the diagnosis provided by Brian McNair and Anthony Giddens. Simply speaking, Giddens and McNair claim that contemporary intimacy is emancipated from most of regulations and contains a high amount of freedom, while Klimczyk (with theoretical support of Foucault) argues that nowadays sexuality is strongly regulated by the outside conditions, especially by the market.

Opis:
W niniejszym szkicu poruszone zostały zagadnienia: (1) Rortiańskiego stosunku do problemów epistemologicznych, (2) Rortiańskiej etyki oraz (3) Rortiańskiej antyfilozoficzności, do których w swoim artykule pt. Pragmatyczna dekonstrukcja filozofii odniósł się Profesor Jacek Hołówka. Wymienione kwestie zostały zanalizowane z zamiarem rzucenia nowego światła na pytania i zarzuty sformułowane przez Hołówkę, a w szczególności w celu podjęcia namysłu nad tytułową tezą jego artykułu, dotyczącą pragmatycznej dekonstrukcji filozofii. Aby wyjaśnić istotę sporu, wprowadzam - zewnętrzną wobec dyskusji Hołówki z Rortym - aparaturę pojęciową, w ramach której można rozróżnić dwa typy wiedzy i dwa typy postaw, co sytuuje stanowiska obu badaczy na przeciwnych biegunach dokonanych rozróżnień. W świetle tej perspektywy oba stanowiska jawią się jako zasadniczo niewspółmierne, a obie filozofie jako poruszające się niejako po odmiennych płaszczyznach. Ponadto naszkicowana została skrótowo koncepcja realizmu kulturowego, jako pewnego rodzaju kompromis między Rortiańską dyskwalifikacją sporu realizmu z antyrealizmem (i generalnie całej epistemologii) a obroną sensowności owego sporu (oraz teorii poznania) w wydaniu Jacka Hołówki.

Tekst omawia wybrane diagnozy i prognozy dotyczące stanu sfery intymnej w kulturze zachodniej. Zestawione zostają rozpoznania podkreślające pozytywne aspekty współczesnych przemian intymności (emancypacja) oraz te, które skupiają się na aspektach negatywnych (uprzedmiotowienie). Również w przypadku prognoz – uwzględniających wpływ nowoczesnych technologii, a także zastępowanie jednostek ludzkich przedmiotami nieożywionymi – zaprezentowane zostają przeciwstawne sobie punkty widzenia analizujące przyszły rozwój sfery relacji miłosnych, seksualnych, rodzinnych i przyjacielskich. W ostatnich partiach tekstu zarysowana została perspektywa przejścia od narcyzmu do autyzmu kulturowego.
This paper discusses selected diagnoses and prognoses that concern the status of the intimate sphere in the contemporary Western culture. Both diagnoses that emphasize positive aspects of contemporary transformations of intimacy (emancipation) and those that focus on the negative aspects (objectification) are considered. Similarly, when it comes to prognoses – which take into account the impact of modern technology, as well as replacing human beings with inanimate objects – opposing points of view that concern the future development of love, sexual, family and friendly relationships in the Western world are presented. The last parts of the text examines the perspective of the transition from cultural narcissism to cultural autism.

Numerous diagnoses of contemporary transformations of love and eroticism emphasise the fact that the intimate life has become democratised and liberated. Anthony Giddens argues that personal relationships increasingly become compatible with the model of pure relationship, which means that they are more egalitarian and that both partners are free to choose and to negotiate the shape of their relations. Jeffrey Weeks claims that in “the world that we have won”, women, homosexuals and queers are increasingly considered as equal to heterosexual men. Most scholars agree that feminism(together with gays’ and lesbians’ movements) is one of most important factors that enabled the democratisation of intimacy. Yet, it is possible to distinguish some interesting approaches that examine the unintended consequences of women’s emancipation. Sociologists like Arlie Russell Hochschild and Eva Illouz recognise the importance of feminism in democratising intimacy, thus they also claim that liberation of women has entailed rationalisation and commercialisation of intimacy. One of Hochschild’s main thesis is that feminism commercialises intimacy by legitimising “the commercial spirit of intimate life”. What is more, she argues that instead of humanizing men feminism is capitalising women. On the other hand, Illouz persuades that feminism – together with therapeutic discourse – rationalises intimacy by emphasising the necessity of analysing and quantifying all aspects of intimate life. Hochschild and Illouz claim that feminism unintentionally makes intimacy “cold” – that is that it suggests focusing on personal autonomy and perceiving warm and close bonds as an endangerment for that autonomy. The cooling entails loosening of family and intimate relationships and making individuals more attached to the market. In the end, both sociologists agree that “cool” branches of feminism make women similar to men and intimacy similar to the market

The aim of this paper is to confront two highly differentiated accounts of transformations of contemporary intimacy. The first account, represented mainly by Anthony Giddens and Brian McNair, concentrates on the processes of democratization and emancipation; simply speaking, this approach suggests that modern intimacy contains higher amount of freedom than the pre-modern one. The second account underlines significance of processes of commercialization and rationalization of intimacy; according to this approach intimacy becomes more and more dependent to the capitalistic market. This point of view is represented by social scientists such as Ulrich Beck, Elisabeth Beck-Gernsheim, Eva Illouz and Arlie Russell Hochschild. The aim of the article is to analyze the abovementioned accounts not as opposite, but as complementary perspectives, which enable one to perceive the highly ambivalent character of modernization of intimacy and modernization in general.

Effects of the EU Directive on Patient’s Rights in the sphere of patients etitlements, providers liabilities and services organization, coordination and financing The so called cross border care directive of European Union follows the long process of European Court of Justice judgments concerning regulation of patient’s right in respect to health services delivered outside the country of health insurance, specifically the planned procedures or treatment not available in the country of patient origin. At this moment the directive is still being transformed into domestic systems however, there are still important obstacles and problems caused by the implementation process. The paper concerns some specific aspects of the above mentioned implementation results, showing also the wider context of the previous attempts focused on the matter solving in EU, mostly describing the legal background and crucial political approaches. It briefly describes such questions like: pre-authorization requirements, subjective obstacles regarding implementation, national contact points problems, need for the legislation novelisation, base reimbursement problems, national systems protection, providers responsibility and some coordination of services aspects in relation to the described directive.

Contemporarily the increasing role of marketing in the process of hospital management may be observed due to the lastly undertaken processes of systemic changes. The paper describes this phenomena on the basis of the Children’s University Hospital of Kraków, one of the leading polish centers in pediatrics. Authors analyze the case of a public clinical hospital asking if marketing activities should be used in such case. The issues focused on public relations and relations with the most important stakeholders are taken into account with a specific regard to the process of the hospital development, potential support for the hospital’s budget and for the future perspectives of such important provider. The case study explicitly illustrates the importance of different marketing techniques and actions for the process of effective management. The final conclusion underlined hereby, is the existing necessity of making publicly visible the vital role of such hospitals as well as building the positive and publicly accepted image of relationship and cooperation amongst stakeholders. This may be obtained with a great help and contribution of marketing knowledge and practices, specifically public relations and relationship marketing,
