The author raises the issues of emotion indirectly - through the exploration of projection, i.e., dreams and fantasies about free time. This material shows that free time appears above all as an emotional space, as it is much easier to experience than to define. These fantasies and dreams, although divorced from reality, refer to it directly and convey important information about the consciousness, imagination and reflections of Polish society; they combine with daily realities and reflect their basic tendencies. The analysis confirms the continuing topicality of a thesis presented at the beginning of the nineties on the pragmatisation of Polish society’s consciousness and its orientation toward material and consumer values. In addition, it can be stated that the sphere of dreams or distant projects is becoming a sort of security vent or protective mechanism which allows persons to deal with serious problems of a personal and social nature.

W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję filozofii przywództwa służebnego jako czynnika kreowania zasobu ludzkiego w organizacji w stopniu skuteczniejszym niż determinanty wskazywane w tradycyjnych teoriach motywowania. The article aims to examine how fitness centres fall in line with the reflexive project of the self and active policy of choice. Such a perspective makes the gym a contradictory category involved in a number of individualand social processes connected with freedom and discipline, control and pleasure or work and leisure.Drawing on qualitative research I wanted to see how the interviewees used the term fitness, how it related to their everyday life, what sort of commitments and responsibility it elicited and the implications arising thereof, and to explore the ambivalence based on a complex interplay of tension and release in fitness.Through the empirical discussion, I show that the reflective attitude is rarely a matter of choice, but rathera result of pressure or social-cultural obligations. Self-discipline as an element of fitness gives the illusion of being causative in the sense that it is strongly entangled with expert knowledge systems.

Przedstawianie czasu wolnego jako czasu poza pracą nie oddaje w pełni współczesnej rzeczywistości, gdzie czas pracy i czas wolny na skutek m.in. elastycznego czasu pracy czy obecności technologii mobilnych ulegają zacieraniu. Dodatkowo coraz częściej mamy do czynienia z sytuacjami, kiedy jednostki wykonują równocześnie dwie i więcej aktywności (ang. multitasking) czy z tymi wskazującymi na wielowymiarowość praktykowania czasu wolnego (ang. multi-dimensional nature of leisure). Tym samym w badaniu czasu wolnego niemożliwe są do utrzymania tradycyjne metodologie ilościowe oparte na dychotomii praca – czas wolny. Tekst prezentuje doświadczeniową perspektywę podejścia do problematyki czasu wolnego opartą na metodologii interpretatywnej i triangulacji metod badawczych. Efektem takiego podejścia jest perspektywa myślenia o czasie wolnym, która zrywa z tradycyjną dychotomią praca – czas wolny na rzecz subiektywnego doświadczania, którego wynikiem jest różnorodność form, stylów i sposobów spędzania czasu wolnego w zmiennym kontekście społecznym.
The presentation of leisure time as time spent away from work does not fully reflect contemporary reality, in which working time and leisure are blurring due to factors such as flexible working hours or mobile technologies. Furthermore, individuals who engage in two or more activities at the same time (multitasking) or those indicating the multidimensional nature of leisure are becoming more common. As a result, traditional quantitative methodologies based on the work-leisure dichotomy are unsuitable for studying leisure. Based on interpretative methodology and research method triangulation, the text presents an experiential perspective on the approach to leisure. This approach results in a way of thinking about leisure that rejects the traditional work-leisure dichotomy in favour of subjective experience, resulting in a variety of forms, styles, and ways of experiencing leisure time in a changing social context.

Tekst podejmuje problem roli i znaczenia koncepcji granic między pracą i życiem (Border i Boundary Theory) w relacji do koncepcji równowagi między pracą a życiem (Work-Life Balance). Pierwsza część artykułu to krytyczny przegląd badań oraz podejść do problematyki WLB w kontekście zachodnim i na rodzimym gruncie. Autorki wskazują na wielość koncepcji służących badaniu i wyjaśnianiu równowagi praca–życie oraz na ich główne ograniczenia. W drugiej części tekstu przedstawiono teoretyczny zarys koncepcji obszarów granicznych z perspektywy teorii granic praca–życie, wskazując na główne ce- chy granic, ich umiejscowienie oraz style i taktyki zarządzania nimi. Opisano także model służący do badania dynamiki domen praca–życie z uwzględnieniem perspektywy indywi- dualnej oraz organizacyjnej.

The paper examines the issues of epidemiology, conditions, and treatment of eating disorders in men which are not widely recognised in either Polish and other International research. The aim of this paper is to provide an narrative overview of published research to date on the epidemiology, determinants and treatment of eating disorders in males, to discuss some of the differences reported in studies of self-identified gender disparities, and differences in comparison to the literature on female eating disorders. The prevalence and extent of the issue is underestimated by those affected and by clinicians. Consequently, men suffering from eating disorders (EDs) are less likely to be recognised or to receive appropriated timely help. This paper is based on a narrative review analysis of research reports on EDs. The authors discuss the issue of EDs in the context of gender, indicating how self-identified gender can affect clinical presentation (including somatic self-perception, and the methods employed and motives in striving for a ‘perfect’ figure) and how these relate. Both the methods used in collecting data on eating disorders and the precision of diagnostic criteria for recognising eating disorders (mainly anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa) (both on the DSM and ICD systems) are based largely on research conducted in female clinical populations. Analysis of the empirical material to date leads us to assume that symptoms of EDs in men are more often (than in the case of women) related to (self)stigmatisation, difficulties in obtaining a correct diagnosis, coexistent body dysmorphic disorders, substance addictions, and greater physical activity.’

Celem tekstu jest podjęcie tematu pracy wokół granic (boundary work) czy zarządzania granicami (boundary management) z uwzględnieniem trybu zatrudnienia oraz statusu rodzinnego badanych osób. Proponowana perspektywa krytycznie podchodzi do dominujących koncepcji work-life-balance, podkreślając dynamiczny i niekończący się proces wzajemnych oddziaływań, w ramach którego granice między pracą a życiem codziennym i rodziną są na co dzień przez jednostki wytwarzane, podtrzymywane, negocjowane oraz przekraczane. Odwołując się metodologii badań jakościowych, chcemy zobaczyć, jak respondenci rozumieją i definiują obszary graniczne oraz jak wygląda proces codziennego zarządzania granicami w zależności od trybu pracy. W tekście dyskutujemy realizowane strategie zarządzania granicami: strategię racjonalnego regulowania granicy i różne strategie kontestowania i zacierania granicy przez badane osoby.
The article aims to examine the subject of boundary work and management, taking into account the employment mode and family status of the researched persons. The proposed perspective is critical towards prevailing work-life-balance concepts and emphasizes the dynamic and interminable process of mutual influences in which the boundaries between work, everyday life, and family are produced, maintained, negotiated and crossed on a daily basis by individuals. Drawing on qualitative research, we want to see how respondents understand and define the term border areas and what the forms of the day-to-day boundary management process are, depending on the mode of work. In our text we discuss implemented border management strategies: the strategy of rational regulation of the border as well as various strategies of contesting and blurring the border among the researched persons.

The paper undertakes the issues of epidemiology, conditions, and treatment of eating disorders in men, which are not widely recognised both in Polish and international research. The text is based on desk research analysis of research reports on eating disorders. Authors discuss the issue of eating disorders in the context of gender, indicating that the clinical picture of them (including the perception of one's own body, the ways and motives for striving for a perfect figure) is mainly related to the stereotypical roles and tasks that society and culture impose on men and women. The empirical material analysis allows us to assume that ED symptoms in men are more often (than in the case of women) related to (self) stigmatisation, diagnosis difficulty, coexistent dimorphic disorders, substance addictions, and more significant physical activity.ty.

It seems that eating means a simple satisfaction of a biological need – hunger. However – as proven by psychologists, sociologists and psychodieticians, etc., while eating certain foods or in specific circumstances we satisfy several other needs, including recognition, belonging, security, control, etc. The text presents results of a simple survey carried out in three groups different from one another in a development phase. As assumed it turned out that the needs which result from normative tasks and from needs of a development period are satisfied by the means of eating.

In this paper, we use qualitative research data to explore the phenomenon of the boundaryless work-life interface during the COVID-19 pandemic as perceived by working parents. We define a boundaryless work-life interface as the weak or virtually absent boundary between work and life domains. We look closer at the relations between space, time, emotions, roles and the boundaryless work-life interface among working parents. The first two subsections introduce the linkages between the boundaryless work-life interface, focusing primarily on time and space in what we call ‘collapsed role boundaries’. The second subsection examines the issues related to mental and emotional tensions the perceived boundarylesness has caused during the pandemic. The paper’s final subsection provides a summary with interpretations and conclusions.
