Opis:
This work proposes a systematic assessment of stereophotogrammetry and noise-floor tests to characterize and quantify the uncertainty and accuracy of a vision-based tracking system. Two stereophotogrammetry sets with different configurations, i.e., some images are designed and their sensitivity is quantified based on several assessments. The first assessment evaluates the image coordinates, stereo angle and reconstruction errors resulting from the stereophotogrammetry procedure, and the second assessment expresses the uncertainty from the variance and bias errors measured from the noise-floor test. These two assessments quantify the uncertainty, while the accuracy of the vision-based tracking system is assessed from three quasi-static tests on a small-scaled specimen. The difference in each stereophotogrammetry set and configuration, as indicated by the stereophotogrammetry and noise-floor assessment, leads to a significant result hat the first stereophotogrammetry set measures the RMSE of 3.6 mm while the second set identifies only 1.6 mm of RMSE. The results of this work recommend a careful and systematic assessment of stereophotogrammetry and noise-floor test results to quantify the uncertainty before the real test to achieve a high displacement accuracy of the vision-based tracking system.

Opis:
A SAW gas sensor based on Zinc Oxide (ZnO) piezoelectric substrate is simulated and evaluated for the detection of the dichloromethane (DCM) volatile organic compound (VOC). The study is performed based on the finite element method (FEM) using COMSOL Multiphysics software. The obtained device response using the ZnO substrate is compared to the one using the typical lithium niobate (LiNbO3) piezoelectric substrate. A thin film of polyisobutylene (PIB) membrane is selected to act as the sensing layer. The obtained results reveal a linear behaviour of the resonance frequency downshift (i.e., the sensor sensitivity) versus the investigated gas concentrations varying from 10 ppm to 100 ppm of DCM gas. Additionally, the sensor response is investigated by applying several thicknesses of PIB ranging from 0.3 µm to 1.0 µm. The observed sensor response shows less dependence on the PIB thickness using the ZnO substrate than the LiNbO3 one.

Opis:
Various intelligent transportation systems are proposed in different forms of wireless communication technologies. Recently, the importance of visible light communication and free-space optics has been demonstrated in accomplishing vehicle-to-vehicle and infrastructure-to-vehicle communication systems, due to power efficiency, free licenses, and safety for human health. In this paper, a new hybrid relay system supported by free-space optics/visible light communication with two scenarios is proposed. The first one is that the data are transferred from the source to the relay through a free-space optics communication link and are then directed to the destination through a visible light communication link. The second scenario is that the data are transmitted from the source to the destination passing through two different relays to ensure larger coverage. A 10‾⁶ bit error rate is achieved at a distance of 900 m for the first scenario with a remarkable signal-to-noise ratio of ~25.5 dB, while the largest distance that can be covered by the second scenario is 1200 m with a signalto- noise ratio of ~30 dB.
