    Opis:
    The article discusses the motifs inspired by the Chinese culture in Franz Kafka’s work. The main part is devoted to the interpretation of the short story The Great Wall of China, written by Kafka in the turbulent year of 1917, the year of World War and the revolution. However, the author also refers to the current international research literature to demonstrate that the Chinese inspirations of the writer from Prague are widely reflected in his other texts and biographical testimonies.

    Im Angesicht der so genannten ‚kopernikanischen Wende’ sowie infolge der imponierenden Fortschritte der Astronomie in den folgenden zwei Jahrhunderten haben sich die Vorstellungen der Europäer vom Universum radikal verändert. Eine der wichtigsten Konsequenzen war die Säkularisierung des Weltbildes. Denker und Dichter wie J.G. Fichte und Jean Paul reflektierten über Gott, den Menschen und das Absolute, wobei sie einen charakteristischen, neuen metaphernreichen Diskurs kreierten. Die Bilder entnahmen sie der alten und neuen Astronomie.
    In the face of the so -called “Copernican Revolution”, and also due to the incredible development of astronomy over centuries, whose consummation was Newton’s physics, Europeans’ views on the Universe dramatically transformed, primarily, were symbolically secularized. The thinkers and writers from the turn of the 18th and 19th century, such as J.G. Fichte and Jean Paul, reflected on God, the Absolute, and human, creating a characteristic discourse full of metaphors taken from the cosmology of their time and from the past.

    Opis:
    Helga M. Novaks Gedichtband Legende Transsib (1985) hat eine sehr ungewöhnliche Sibirienreise zum Thema. Da Novak die Einreise in die Sowjetunion verweigert wurde, hat sie sich das Gebiet und die Transsibirische Eisenbahn durch Texte erschlossen. Anhand Archivrecherchen wird hier gezeigt, wie breit angelegt und zugleich detailliert ihre Lektüren waren. Es wäre jedoch falsch, in den Gedichten Novaks lediglich eine Wiedergabe des aus verschiedenen Quellen geschöpften Wissens zu sehen. Sie verarbeitet es zu einem Porträt Sibiriens als Natur - und Kulturraum und legt, indem sie eine Wissenspoetik entwickelt, ein dichterisches Epos über viele Schlüsselfragen des 20. Jahrhunderts vor.
    M. Novak’s poetry volume entitled Legende Transsib (1985) tells us about a very unusual trip through Siberia. Because the author was denied entry to the Soviet Union, she became acquainted with the subjects of Siberia and Transsiberian Railroad thanks to reading. Basing on an archival query, we show how extensive and detailed was her study of this subject. However, the interpretation of Novak’s poems as a mere accounting of knowledge coming from different sources would be one-sided. The author presents a portrait of Siberia as a cultural space and creates, by developing her own ‘poetics of knowledge’, a literary epic addressing key civilization issues of the 20th century.
