    The “Tatra Eagle” is a quarterly focusing on regional topics, e.g. the culture of Poland’s Podhale in its’ historical, literary and cultural aspects. The originator of the magazine and long-time editor-in-chief was Jan Władysław Gromada, who engaged his entire family in its’ publication: his wife Aniela and children: Janina and Tadeusz. Thanks to the work of two generations, the quarterly was published for over 70 years (1947-2019). Actually, the regional activity of the Gromada family dates back to earlier times, because it began in 1929. The presented archive, although focused mainly on the journal, in reality contains materials documenting over 90 years of activity of the Gromada family involved in the cultivation of the rich cultural heritage of the Podhale region in the USA, as well as to promote it amongst both the Polish and American communities. The aim of the article is to present the contents of the archive against the background of the history of its’ creation.
    „Tatrzański Orzeł” jest polonijnym kwartalnikiem o tematyce regionalnej, poświęconym kulturze Podhala w aspekcie historycznym, literackim i kulturowym. Pomysłodawcą pisma i długoletnim redaktorem naczelnym był Jan Władysław Gromada, który zaangażował w jego prowadzenie całą swoją rodzinę – żonę Anielę oraz dzieci: Janinę i Tadeusza. Dzięki pracy dwóch pokoleń kwartalnik ukazywał się ponad 70 lat (1947-2019). Regionalna działalność rodziny Gromadów sięga jednak czasów wcześniejszych, ponieważ rozpoczęła się już w 1929 roku. Prezentowane archiwum, jakkolwiek skupione głównie wokół czasopisma, zawiera materiały dokumentujące ponad 90 lat działalności rodziny Gromadów na rzecz kultywowania bogatego dziedzictwa kulturowego Podhala w USA, a także propagowania go zarówno wśród Polonii, jak i Amerykanów. Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie zawartości archiwum na tle historii jego powstania.

    The aim of this article is to present theoretical and practical perspective of positive emotions in the process of teaching and upbringing, especially in the space of regional education. In the first part, author describes the place of emotions in the theoretical models of education of J. Locke, J.J. Rousseau, J. Herbart, researchers of New Educations Movement and C. Rogers’ humanistic theory of child development. A separate place devoted to the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions developed by B. Fredrickson. This theory posits that experiences of positive emotions, like joy, interest, contentment, and love, broaden people’s momentary thought-action repertoires which in turn serves to build their enduring personal resources, ranging from physical and intellectual resources to social and psychological resources. The field of regional education very well fits into the theory of positive emotions. The children may observe and understand their own place and its tradition. They may be proud of it, and they would like to do something good for the local society in the future. An integral part of this article provides a proposal of substantive basis of regional educational for the Podtatrze region.
    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie roli pozytywnych emocji w wychowaniu i edukacji, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem możliwości, jakie w tym względzie otwiera przed szkołą edukacja regionalna. W pierwszej części przeanalizowano poglądy wybranych pedagogów pod kątem ich zapatrywań na miejsce emocji w procesie wychowania (J. Locke, J.J. Rousseau, J. Herbart, M. Montessori, różni pedagodzy spod znaku Nowego Wychowania, C. Rogers). Kolejną część poświęcono teorii pozytywnych emocji B. Fredrickson, która wykazała znaczenie takich uczuć, jak zadowolenie, radość, duma, zainteresowanie i miłość w procesie wychowania. Następnie omówiono opracowaną dla regionu Podtatrza merytoryczną podstawę edukacji regionalnej, która zawiera w swej treści cele ogólne i szczegółowe. Całość zamykają refleksje na temat tego, w jaki sposób głębsze zakorzenienie we własnej bliższej ojczyźnie sprzyja generowaniu i utrwalaniu pozytywnych emocji wśród uczniów.

    The article begins with a short presentation of the state of research regarding humor and comedy. Humor is the process which activates subjects and discusses social functions. Next, past and present theories on the topic of comedy (the comedic effect) created, for example, by philosophers and psychologists are characterized. They all emphatically confirm that the conditions for the existence of comedic word are through the recipient’s ability to perceive comedy. The second part of the article is dedicated to the analysis of humor mechanisms in dialectical texts from the Podtatrza region. The highlander’s previous sense of humor came through songs, classified by researchers (Sadownik) as comedy. The most frequent mechanism of humor in these works was touching on taboo topics, justified through concrete give-and-take situations. Furthermore, the article is dedicated to the analysis of the appearance of humor in the poetry of Wanda Czubernatowa, Zdzisław Barglik, in the stories of Sabała, the tales of Andrzej Skupień Florek, Józef Pitorak, Józef Pitoń and Irena Grobarczyk (in Orawa). The proposals illustrate the important role of dialect in building comedy even though as compared to the Polish language, it is limited in terms of linguistic wit. The author sees the cause of this in the drop in use of the regional dialect which, in the long run, contains two advantages in building humor: conciseness and accuracy.

    W gwarowej poezji Podhala obok nurtu ludowego wyodrębnił się także nurt zindywidualizowanej liryki, prezentującej subiektywną wizję świata, przefiltrowaną przez wrażliwość poety. Teksty należące do tego nurtu cechuje niekonwencjonalna metaforyka, polegająca na zastosowaniu figur stylistycznych świadomie i twórczo modyfikujących konwencje ludowego stylu artystycznego lub też inspirujących się innymi wzorcami. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza czterech przykładów niekonwencjonalnych metafor gwarowych o różnym stopniu złożoności. Wszystkie zostały zaczerpnięte z tekstów współczesnych poetów Podhala. W nawiązaniu do interakcyjnej teorii metafory M. Blacka zostaną omówione przekształcenia semantyczne, którym poddano poszczególne wyrażenia gwarowe w celu wydobycia z nich nowych znaczeń.
    Poetry written in Podhale includes the folk trend together with individualised poetry, presenting a subjective vision of the world, processed by the poet’s sensitivity. The texts attributed to this trend present unconventional poetic metaphors where use is made of stylistic devices purposefully and creatively modifying the conventions of the folk style or inspired by other standards. The aim of this article is to analyse four examples of unconventional poetic metaphors of varying complexity. All of them come from the texts written by contemporary poets from Podhale. With reference to M. Black’s interactive theory of metaphor, the semantic transformations of individual dialectical expressions are discussed in order to decipher new meanings.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest kwestii miejsca, jakie może tekst gwarowy zająć w edukacji i wychowaniu młodego pokolenia w ramach edukacji szkolnej. W pierwszej części rozważa w perspektywie historycznej przyczyny zwalczania gwary przez polską szkołę. W drugiej, poświęconej już szeroko pojętemu Podhalu, prezentuje współczesne warunki, skłaniające do podjęcia zdecydowanych kroków w celu zachowania dziedzictwa kulturowego regionu i przekazania go kolejnym pokoleniom. Trzecia część artykułu jest poświęcona roli, jaką odpowiednio przygotowany tekst gwarowy może i powinien zająć we współczesnej szkole. Autorka korzysta z doświadczeń, jakie zebrała, opracowując dla potrzeb szkolnych gwarowe czytanki, a także wskazuje sposoby wprowadzenia tekstów gwarowych o charakterze literackim do szkolnej praktyki. Jednym z nich jest konkurs czytelniczy gwarowych tekstów literatury regionalnej, który na Podhalu odbywa się już od czterech lat i co roku poszerza się o nowe subregiony Podtatrza.
    The article is devoted to the issue of what role in the educational process should the teaching of local dialect languages play and in what capacity of childrens' overall educational development. In the first part of this presentation, an analysis is presented as to how local regional dialects were attacked and attempted to render obsolete through the Polish school system. In the second part of the article and utilizing the largest assumed definition of the area known as Podhale, the article presents the present day situation with its clearly defined objective of preserving local dialect as a distinct attribute of the region's cultural identity and the identified need to transmit the language as a cultural icon to the succeeding generations. The third part of the article discusses how properly prepared pedagogical guides to regional dialects should be utilized in the present day teaching programs of schools. This author utilizes experiences gained while preparing for school children elementary readers in local dialect languages and from practical experience gained while preparing course work on regional literature as part of students' curriculum . A unique part of this identified process is the establishment of local competitions in public speaking utilizing the regional dialect of the Podhale area of Poland. These competitions have been placed into practice for over four years already and are ever expanding into the various subregions of the Podhale area.

    Podhale is a region that can boast over a century-long literary tradition. Inspired by the Podhale's current Polish literature, educated Highlanders, at the beginning of the twentieth century, initiated a non-folkloric trend of dialect prose and poetry. They elevated the native dialect to the level of the language of poetry. The Podhale literature has therefore been created by five generations of poets. Their work is a unique and original reflection of the perception of the world through a micro-society with a strong cultural identity and a deep attachment to the tradition of Podhale. The radical changes that have taken place in the Highlander villages in recent decades have always enhanced the tendency of the Podhale literature to idealize the past. Already in the 1970s, the old simple rural life was supplanted by modernity, which both brought prosperity and became the reason for alienating people from the natural world. Under the influence of civilizational changes, Podhale - once a land of shepherds and farmers living in the mountains and forests - gradually lost its connection with nature. Its contemporary inhabitants are no longer living according to natural rhythms, nor do they have time to contemplate nature. The article focuses on the analysis of the Arcadian vision of nature created in the dialect poetry of Antonina Zachara-Wnękowa, who sees the basic condition for human happiness in returning to nature and living in harmony with it.
    Podhale jest regionem, które może poszczycić się ponadstuletnią tradycją literacką. Zainspirowani nurtem podhalańskim w literaturze polskiej wykształceni górale na już na początku XX wieku zainicjowali niefolklorowy nurt gwarowej prozy i poezji. Rodzimemu dialektowi nadali rangę języka poezji. Podhalańską literaturę do naszych czasów współtworzyło pięć generacji poetów. Ich twórczość stanowi unikatowy i oryginalny obraz percepcji świata przez mikrospołeczność o silnej tożsamości kulturowej oraz głębokim przywiązaniu do tradycji. Radykalne zmiany, jaki nastąpiły na góralskiej wsi w ostatnich dekadach, wpłynęły na kondycję życia górali. Już w latach 70 XX wieku dawne, proste życie wiejskie zostało wyparte przez nowoczesność, która chociaż przyniosła z sobą dobrobyt, stała się przyczyną wyobcowania człowieka ze świata przyrody. Podhale – niegdyś zagubiona wśród gór i lasów kraina pasterzy i rolników – pod wpływem zmian cywilizacyjnych stopniowo zagubiło więź z naturą. Jego współcześni mieszkańcy nie żyją już zgodnie z jej rytmem ani też nie mają czasu na jej kontemplację.  Przedmiotem referatu będzie analiza arkadyjskiej wizji natury stworzonej w gwarowej poezji Antoniny Zachary-Wnękowej, która w powrocie do natury i życiu z nią w harmonii upatruje podstawowy warunek ludzkiego szczęścia.

    The article is an attempt to assess the effects on the functionality of regional dialects from both a historical and contemporary perspective. As a starting point for deliberations, the author has adopted the theory of Maryla Hopfinger who assumes that the development of technology, more specifically advances in communication from first an analog and now to a digital technology, has contributed to a complete change in the medium of commu-nication which thus, for the twentieth century, resulted, for the second time in the history of mankind, in the total reconfiguration of culture. The first major realignment of culture took place at the time when the spoken word was stripped of its’ prior high ranking by the writ-ten word. Also within the village, speech to some extent, also gave up to this reconfiguration. This first impact on regional dialects only slowly changed the first relationship, while he second, which is now taking place before our eyes, seems to more strongly influence the language and culture of the modern village.
    Artykuł jest próbą oceny zjawisk dotyczących warunków funkcjonowania gwary w perspektywie historycznej oraz współczesnej. Za punkt wyjścia do rozważań przyjęto teorię Maryli Hopfinger. Zakłada ona, iż rozwój technologii najpierw analogowych, a obecnie cyfrowych i związana z tym zmiana modelu komunikacji społecznej przyczyniły się do za inicjowanej w XX wieku drugiej w historii ludzkości, totalnej rekonfiguracji kultury. Pierwsza dokonała się w czasach, kiedy słowo mówione zostało pozbawione wcześniejszej rangi przez pismo. Także wieś ze swoją mową w jakimś stopniu poddała się obu rekonfiguracjom. Pierwsza z nich znacznie wolniej zmieniała jej oblicze, druga zaś, która dokonuje się na naszych oczach, zdaje się mocniej wpływać na język i kulturę współczesnej wsi.

    The aim of the article is to analyze the dedication entries that the authors put on books donated to Władysław Orkan. They all come from his private library donated by the writer’s family to the Podhalan House in Ludźmierz. The acquired dedication texts were considered in terms of their place in the genre field of the dedication, taking into account canonical, alternating and adaptive patterns. In addition, the implementation of the strategy of positive politeness inscribed in individual texts was considered. In addition, the dedications were treated as a contribution to the reception of the person and work of Władysław Orkan by his contemporaries.
    Celem artykułu jest analiza wpisów dedykacyjnych, którymi autorzy opatrywali książki ofiarowane Władysławowi Orkanowi. Wszystkie one pochodzą z jego prywatnej biblioteki przekazanej przez rodzinę pisarza do Domu Podhalan w Ludźmierzu. Pozyskane teksty dedykacji rozpatrzono pod kątem ich miejsca w polu gatunkowym, uwzględniającym wzorce kanoniczne, alternacyjne i adaptacyjne. Ponadto poddano analizie realizację strategii grzeczności pozytywnej wpisanej w gatunkowy model dedykacji. Poza tym dedykacje potraktowano jako przyczynek do recepcji osoby i dzieła Władysława Orkana przez jego współczesnych.
