Opis:
Rising highly concern about the environment has led to demands for the improvement of the efficiency of gasoline engines. Engine thermal efficiency will reach about 40% by technologies as boosted EGR, miller cycle and so on. This evolution trend will be continuously required to survive engines for the future. In this background, further improvement based on theoretical thermal efficiency of high compression ratio and specific heat capacity should be promoted. In addition, energy loss reduction such as represented by cooling loss and friction is also very important for the efficient and effective improvement. NISSAN’s challenges will be introduced to solve these propositions.

Opis:
In two-stroke engines of the crankcase-compression type, the piston rings slide over not only the cylinder wall but also the cylinder ports. It is important for piston ring designers to understand how piston rings behave over cylinder ports. In order to clarify the axial motion of piston rings in two-stroke engines, we established a measurement method using light-emitting diodes (LEDs). We attached LEDs inside the piston, and leaked the backlight of LEDs through the side clearance between the piston ring side face and the piston ring groove side face. From the position of the leaked backlight in the piston ring groove, we determined the axial ring position in the ring groove. Our experiments set this piston with LEDs in an experimental two-stroke engine with a transparent cylinder, and investigated the effects of intake and exhaust ports on axial ring motion under motoring operations. Results indicated that the rings moved in the axial direction by the ring projection and catching in the intake and exhaust ports.

Opis:
This paper was aimed at evaluating the mental work-load (MWL) with psycho-physiological indices. Especially, we focused on the intermittent type of MWL, which is assumed as a predisposing factor of various somatic and mental disorders. In the experiment, we introduced a facial skin thermo image comparing with conventional physiological indices, such as electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram (EEG). As a result, the facial skin image was suggested to be a useful tool for evaluating such an intermittent type of MWL.

Opis:
MRI is one of medical diagnostic imaging technologies that can draw the cross section in the body. To obtain a clearer image, Gd complexes are often used as MRI contrast agents. Gd-DTPA (Gd-Diethylenetriaminepentaacetate, Magnevist registered trademark ) is used in particular as the MRI contrast agents. We prepared and evaluated novel MRI contrast agents that were chemically modified Gd-DTPA with sugars (represented as Gd-DTPA-Sugar) via hydrolysis route for providing specificity to target organs and tissues. Gd-DTPASugar complex showed an excellent potential for the MRI contrast agent (r1=31.2 s-1mM-1). Gd-DTPA-Sugar complexes alternatively prepared by shorter synthetic route without protection/ deprotection (hydrolysis) method showed inferior results (r1=6.3 and 8.1 s-1mM-1) to the hydlized product.
