Opis:: This article reflects on the universal values of Leszek Libera’s novel Utopek, on what always remains “unspeakable” in Silesian issues, and on the internal life of the personal (author’s) and collective memory of Silesian generations. The author deals, in an original and profound way, with the problems that are still traumatic for many people in Upper Silesia. The complex Polish-German biographies of the inhabitants of the Silesian lands include the fate of the author and his family, contributing to the collective memory of a difficult past. Written in exile, the German-language work was highly praised by native critics, who stressed that the novel could rival the great classics. The emigrants outlook allowed for a distanced and multi-perspective view of history that cannot be discussed in rigid paradigms. The specificity, complexity and indeterminacy of Silesian identity are expressed in the novel through the figure of the Utopling, a fictional being who does not fit into the world in which he lives, who perceives the absurdities of reality and longs to return to his native utopia. The figure of the Utopling embraces the extremes and opposites inherent in the Silesian landscape. The character is at once hypersensitive and cruel, native and universal, local and a stranger, outgoing and claustrophobic, likeable and repulsive.

Opis:: The main objective of my dissertation is to introduce the assumptions of the Jungian depth psychology to the bibliotherapeutic process. Bibliotherapy as an interdisciplinary method using psychology and literary studies enriched with the theory of integral psychology formulates a new theoretical perspective and constitutes a proposal of a holistic view of bibliotherapy. The extension of the theoretical basis of bibliotherapy will help to augment the therapeutic effect, activate unawareness (the sphere neglected in school education), and strengthen psyche. Integral bibliotherapy will create conditions to expand the dialogue between the rational side and unaware one, and it will contribute to a positive stimulation of the integration processes. Providing archetypal patterns reflecting the rules of life in culture, and drawing attention to the regulatory role of literary works, will enrich both the intellectual and spiritual side of the development of the participant of the bibliotherapeutic process. Archetypal content present in literary texts studied by the participant according to the bibliotherapeutic procedure will achieve an integral orientation focused on the humanistic dimension of existence.

Opis:: An analysis of the process concerning transfer of archetypal symbols in fairy-tale plots, conducted firom the perspective of depth psychology (C.G. Jung), reveals the human being to be a culture creator (homo culturalis), who uses vivid language and aims at abstracting a multidimensional sense of existence. The paradigm of archetypal literary criticism (N. Frye) offers multidimensional insights into a work of literature and demonstrates the shifts of the arche, a constant adjustment of archetypes to the demands of the present. When attempting to determine the archetypal order in the works of Marta Tomaszewska, one should be aware of the fact that it is one of many possible efforts to read multi-perspective symbolic contents and it validates the thesis presuming an endless source of the collective unconscious.

Opis:: Ewa Nowacka occupies an important place among the contemporary Polish writers and her prose works for young recipients, extensive as far as various subjects and genres are concerned, contain many inventive, unique concepts and writing ideas. Nowacka is, first of all, the author of novels of manners and historical ones, in which the writer presents her imagination, her aspiration for the reconstruction of life of manners, cultural life, concern for noticing concrete things, details, which are the background of experience of a young character who struggles with eternal, archetypical problems, the universalism and psychologism of which is the strong point of the author’s writing. The recipient of Ewa Nowacka’s works notices that characters create their destiny through ordinary struggle, that it is necessary to mythologize the existence in order to understand the world.

Opis:: Politics is a particular field of social activity where accusing an opponent of mental incapacitation occurs as a frequent element of the conducted narrative. Moreover, public opinion discrediting a profession of a politician is very eager to question the mental health of political actors. Vocabulary used in the public is a vital testimony of societies attitude towards people with mental disorders. However, we refer paranoia to personality traits of individuals while political paranoia refers to reaction to events, facts or to the way it is seen by individuals or groups. The authors do not have any ambition to carry out a psychological analysis of politicians. What is intriguing is the issue of using political paranoia (searching for enemies, tracking plots, fighting in defence of ideals, irrational justification of failures) in the group spectrum for elections. What is also intriguing is the answer to the question whether politicians are paranoid, or it is a well-planned election strategy which aims to identify an opponent to consolidate a group of voters around the leader.
