    The article discusses various forms and aspects of the conceptualization of war as a tension between the individual and the total. The starting point is the philosophical reflection of B. Miciński, E. Levinas and G.W. Hegel, and then the conception of war as a form of totalizing, e.g. by subordinating it to ideology, nationality and other forms of collective identity, and reducing man to a material or numerical dimension, are presented. War is often described as an autonomous and inhuman force depriving man of subjectivity and agency. On the other hand, the literature analyzed in the article, mainly non-fictional, often focuses on saving individuality through the description of individual stories. Such conceptualizations also appear in reportages about the war in Ukraine.

    W artykule omówione zostały bariery i problemy poznawcze wpływające na edukację proekologiczną. Kwestia kryzysu ekologicznego jest niezwykle trudna do zrozumienia dla każdego człowieka, między innymi ze względu na błędy i pułapki myślowe, a także z powodu złożoności tej problematyki. W edukacji rodzi to problemy z przekazywaniem wiedzy dotyczącej ekologii, jej przyswojeniem, weryfikacją i operacjonalizacją. Edukacja proekologiczna wymaga zatem innego rodzaju działań niż te podejmowane w pozostałych obszarach kształcenia, wymaga integracji nie tylko międzyprzedmiotowej, lecz także związanej z nauką krytycznego myślenia oraz kształtowaniem wrażliwości moralnej i obywatelskiej.
    In his article, Maciej Michalski discusses cognitive barriers and other challenges that have strong impact on proecological education. People find it difficult to understand the issue of the ecological crisis because of the common cognitive fallacies and logical errors as well as the complexity of this crisis. For these reasons, proecological education is finding it difficult to transmit and acquire knowledge as well as to ensure its verification and operationalization. As a result, proecological education requires new educational practices, different to those which are used in other areas of education. In particular, it requires an integration of different school courses and the development of the skill of critical thinking, moral sensitivity, and civic responsibility.

    The article presents thesis on insect perspective in works of two important writers and philosophers – Stefan Themerson and Józef Tischner. Firstly, author of this paper interprets Themerson’s narrative novel Professor Mmaa’s Lecture as metaphorical picture of human society which is being reflected in a society of termites. Homo sapiens social behaviors, perceived from a perspective of insects, lose their anthropocentric obviousness and yet Themerson’s vision is far from naive unification of human and insect condition. Further part of the article focuses on Tischner’s collection of essays, where intellectual life of polish society is being discussed. In some of these essays philosopher uses example and perspective of insects to reveal absurdity in human life. In conclusive part of the article, author compares these two works in their similarities and differences. They appear to be profound analysis of totalitarian society presented by parabolic picture of insect world.

    The paper presents selected phenomena of intertextuality, interdiscoursiveness, and corres-pondence of arts in contemporary literature, especially Polish. In spite of intertextuality being a category well recognized in the contemporary theory of literature, it seems rarely developed nowadays, so there is no need to present well known and classic theoretical concepts. Both intertex-tual and interdiscoursive literary practices, the latter understood as creating dialogical or polemical relations among discourses, are widespread, especially in postmodernism and late modernism, and the phenomenon of the correspondence of arts can also be considered an aspect of intertex-tuality. This article focuses on the selected examples of intertextual references (mainly allusions and stylization) in sound realization of ideas (versification), composition and genre conventions, as well as relations between literature and philosophy, especially those of parodic character con-ceived — according to the classic concept of Linda Hutcheon — as a repetition with critical distance, which marks difference rather than similarity. Philosophical parody is characterized by ambiguity (repetition means acceptance, parodic exaggeration gives critical distance) towards philosophical schools and academic discourse of philosophy. Selected phenomena are presented on the examples from texts by Julian Tuwim, Cyprian Kamil Norwid, Marian Piechal, Tomasz Różycki, Witold Gombrowicz, Sławomir Mrożek, Robert Coover, Stanisław Lem, Wystan Hugh Auden, Hans Magnus Enzensberger, Stefan Themerson, and Leszek Kołakowski.

    The article aims to describe the conceptualization of pandemic discourse taking place in humanistic reflection. The author analyzes the statements of Giorgio Agamben, Niall Ferguson, Ivan Krastev, Jean Luc Nancy, Slavoj Žižek, Piotr Augustyniak, Inga Iwasiów and Tomasz Stawiszyński. He describes the trends appearing in their texts regarding the assessment of the causes of the pandemic and forecasts its further consequences, and also briefly analyzes the ways of describing it. Finally, the author formulates conclusions about the humanities – pessimistic in terms of its diagnostic and prognostic capabilities – and poses questions about its current status and potential.

    W Europie rośnie ostatnio ryzyko wystąpienia deficytu mocy, koniecznych do zaspokojenia w każdym czasie popytu na energię elektryczną. Brak mocy może powodować przerwy w dostawach energii elektrycznej lub ograniczać poziom zasilania. Przyczyną tego ryzyka jest głównie niedopasowanie elastyczności bloków produkcyjnych w elektrowniach konwencjonal-nych do nowych wymogów, które pojawiły się w rezultacie gwałtownego wzrostu wytwarzania energii ze źródeł odnawialnych (OZE), w szczególności w elektrowniach wiatrowych i słonecznych, których produkcja zależy od warunków pogodowych. Analiza polskiego sektora wytwórczego zarówno pod kątem wieku, stanu technicznego urządzeń, jak i funkcjonującego „energy mix” wykazała, że segment ten jest szczególnie zagrożony i wymaga utworzenia oraz wdrożenia instrumentów interwencyjnych i pomocowych. Jednym z proponowanych rozwiązań jest utworzenie w miejsce obecnego rynku jednotowarowego, właściwego wyłącznie dla energii elektrycznej, rynku dwutowarowego, uzupełnionego o komponent mocy. Rozwiązanie takie może być także odpowiedzią na kolejne wyzwanie, jakim jest konieczność zastąpienia niektórych kon-wencjonalnych źródeł wytwórczych nowymi, spełniającymi zaostrzone wymogi środowiskowe. Prawidłowo zaprojektowany rynek mocy może być odpowiedzią na powyższą potrzebę. Należy jednak brać pod uwagę powiązania rynku polskiego liniami transgranicznymi z ościennymi ryn-kami energii elektrycznej. Ponadto, rynek mocy jest swoistą formą protekcjonizmu rynkowego, gdyż potencjalnie może wpływać na przepływy transgraniczne. Z tego powodu Unia Europejska traktuje rynek mocy jako rozwiązanie tymczasowe. Pojawia się także ryzyko regulacyjne, w przypadku jeżeli konieczne będzie dopasowanie regulacji rynku energii elektrycznej do nowe-go systemu wsparcia. Regulacje takie będą miały skutki długoterminowe. Poprzedzi je z pewnością rozciągnięty w czasie proces oceny tych skutków zarówno dla rynku lokalnego, jak i handlu energią w Europie.
    The threat of the deficit of necessary power capacity starts to be a visible risk for European power industry. The shortage of power capacity can result in blackout. The development of re-newable energy sources (RES) contributes to the decrease of the power prices in the European Union, which may adversely affect the overall profitability of power production and the outlook for new investments. That is why power companies have started to limit the replacement of con-ventional power plants, based on fossil fuels, with new ones and develop RES as new power capacities. The analysis of Polish power sector allows arriving at a conclusion that the new im-pulse for developing new, stable power sources is crucial. The introduction of the capacity market might be a solution to the problem and a way to meet the present challenges. Another important issue is to consider the European perspective of the fun-ctioning of power market: commercial power flows within the region and the potential form of the state aid in the capacity market mechanism. Hence, European Commission considers the capacity market as a temporary solution. The regulatory risk could create next challenges, and the establishment of new support instrument may prove to be necessary. Such a solution will have a long-term impact, which, in turn, creates the need to assess its consequences for both regional and European power trade.

    The distribution of maximum rainfall level is not a homogeneous phenomenon and is often characterised by multimodality and often the phenomenon of the heavy right-hand tail. Modelling this phenomenon using classic probability distributions leads to ignoring multimodality, thus underestimating or overestimating the predicted values in the tail tails – the most important from the point of view of safe dimensioning of drainage systems. To avoid the difficulties mentioned above, a non-parametric kernel estimator method of maximum precipitation density function was used (in the example of rainfall data from a selected station in Poland). The methodology proposed in the paper (for use on any rainfall data from other meteorological stations) will allow the development of more reliable local models of maximum precipitation.

    The aim of the presented work is to describe the different trends in race walkers training and the biological adaptation of the body to the applied stresses, and to characterize the other phenomena accompanying this sport. The article is equally concerned with the scientific premises as well as the practical training indications. For a deeper characterization of the discussed problems, the biological considerations that underpin the selection of people to practice race walking are broadly described. It has been shown that diagnostic test that reveal the overall exercise potential of the body are useful tools in this area, and its specific development is related to the use of balanced training in which the most difficult part is to strive for optimal mastery of the sport walking technique. It was also suggested, that physiological, biomechanical and dietary determinants, which are assessed in scientific laboratories would be helpful for trainers and race walkers in achieving championship in race walking. The general nature of race walking was supplemented with a description of the social phenomena associated with this sport competition. The conclusions drawn in this article indicate the importance of mastering the technique of walking, the predisposition to practicing this sport, the importance of a coach in achieving high sports results, and the opportunity of health benefits mainly through the practice of recreational walking.
