    The presented commemorative sketch refers to the figure of the Reverend Professor Marian Lewko depicting him as an outstanding academic teacher thoroughly engrossed in University activi- ties. He perceived his didactic work as pursuit which bore a sense of mission. It evokes the Profes- sor’s flair for conducting classes – always carefully prepared and perfectly taught – and his unri- valled wish to cover the chosen material fully and diligently. The text also underlines the issue of high requirements; both proposed and adhered to. Having been an exceptional documentalist and an insightful analyst, the Reverend Professor himself expected his students to develop the knack for collecting needed materials, to adopt a responsible research approach and not to forget about meti- culousness needed in phenomenon analyses. At the same time, however, the text strongly emphasiz- es the Reverend Lewko’s extraordinary kindliness and his broad perspective on students’ needs. His sensitivity, his proficiency in sharing his knowledge with others together with his deep feeling of satisfaction, stimulated by his students’ successes, should not be forgotten. The unique sense of community present during Professor’s classes created favourable conditions for developing cordial human relations and for establishing close relationships between students and their teachers.

    This paper focuses on Karprowicz – the inventor of a certain kind of subjective theatre, his “mental” theatre in which he sought to find a new form of his poetic quests. The concept of personal theatre refers here to the situation in which there is no correspondence between the basic indicators of kind and genre in the drama, when the rules and principles of writing are no longer recognised through the prism of convention. Rather they are defined by other points of reference, especially the overall literary accomplishment of the writer, the singularity of his conclusions. According to Karpowicz, the essence of innovation does not reside in the formal shape, but in the new and revealing understanding of man, in being open to the whole dynamic complexity of human nature. This paper is therefore also an attempt to show the image of man written in the construction of heroes who function in Karpowicz's “mental” world. It is the only world that according to Karpowicz bears the chance to come closer to the truth about the essence of humankind. It is the world in statu nascendi, the world of constant movement, development and change, the world governed by the logic of paradox. This logic sanctions the existence of oppositions constituted by the heroes or else deformed by them. They become bearers of contents inscribed in the basic categories of human existence. They are exemplifications of the dynamic co-existence of contrary ideas, models stigmatised by their own carnality and history, which still face a chance to discover the essence of humankind that enlivens the incessant movement of thoughts.

    The article is about the works of Kazimierz Braun - stage director, expert in the field of theatre, author of literary works. It recalls this artist and researcher as a theatre authority, but also it shows the authorities that formed him as an artist. Moreover, this text reveals the meaning of the figure of authority in Braun’s literature on the example of the biographical dramas he wrote. The main purpose of this article is to analyse the influence of authorities on Braun’s understanding of artistic activity, his creative strategy and its implementation in selected cultural texts. The terms of authority as a task, a challenge and an obligation in the title of the article referred to different areas of Braun’s activity, which, on the one hand, indicate the impact of authority, but on the other hand, show the way to gain it.

    In one of Tymoteusz Karpowicz's most ambitious dramaturgic attempts – Przerwa w podróży (A Stop in the Journey) – the protagonists representing the most general categories of human existence and various aspects of human activity, who are `all passengers of all means of communication', are put in the situation of existential suspense. A stop in the journey in the spatial sense makes it possible to travel into the depth of oneself, it becomes a chance to throw away all the redundancy of life and find in oneself the integral `ego', independent of functionality, that is of the roles that one has to play. The transitional reality in which the dramatis personae find themselves validates many interpretative orders, which in turn gives the characters many dimensions – they make ambiguous gestures, actions and their relations become ambiguous. A confrontation of many interpretation planes creates a polyphonic world of creative “all-possibility”, which, however, has its inner logic that is reflected in the way of presenting the protagonists and in the subsequent sequences bringing changes of arrangements and oppositions that are formed between them. The changing configurations, in which the characters look for affirmation of their existence in the relation with a partner, constitute the process of becoming mature enough – in experiencing oneself and others – to have one's own authentic consciousness; to one's humanity.

    This paper discusses the collaboration between the author, Tymoteusz Karpowicz, and the director, Andrzej Witkowski (broken by the latter's sudden death). This artistic alliance had brought forth for theatrical works, prepared by the Wrocław group Teatr Rozmaitości (later renamed as the E. Wierciński Teatr); Witkowski himself made every effort to do it. Owing to Witkowski, the playwright could treat this theatre almost as his own stage. Karpowicz had found in the Wrocław director the most careful and profound interpreter of his plays, someone who noticed in them a new theatrical quality. According to critics, Witkowski ”felt” best Karpowicz's dramaturgical matter. He collaborated with the author and at the same time created his independent and ambitious productions, which made the texts more profound and richer in their expression. This creative alliance was initiated by the preview of The Strange Passenger in 1964. Three years later Witkowski directed The Green Gloves. The latter production was very different from earlier productions in other theatres. It became the most important spectacle of the season and gained a permanent place among the most eminent productions of the director and the Wrocław stage. In the following years there were still other stagings: A Break in the Journey (1968), based on a new version of the text; Witkowski participated in the whole process, and the preview of Charon from Dawn to Dawn (1972).

    Artykuł stanowi propozycję przeglądu kilku wybranych, artystycznie wartościowych tekstów dramatycznych powstałych w pierwszym dziesięcioleciu XXI wieku, w których pojawia się, w różnych ujęciach, postać wzorowana na wyjątkowej osobie polskiego Papieża: Narty Ojca Świętego Jerzego Pilcha, Dotknięci Piotra Grabowskiego, Człowiek z Bogiem w szafie Michała Walczaka oraz tekstu Artura Grabowskiego Cnoty zachodniej cywilizacji. Zmierza do odpowiedzi na pytanie, jak osobę Jana Pawła II, jego życie i dzieło zapisała przywołana tu literatura, pokazując zarazem utrwalony w przestrzeni literackiej wpływ Ojca Świętego na zwykłego człowieka. Włączając się w nurt badań nad obecnością Jana Pawła II w tekstach literackich, wpisuje się zarazem w potrzebę ocalania pamięci o świętym papieżu.
    This article analyses several artistically important Polish 21st-century plays, in which a character has been modelled on the person of Pope John Paul II. The works studied here are Jerzy Pilch’s Narty Ojca Świętego, Paweł Grabowski’s Dotknięci, Michał Walczak’s Człowiek z Bogiem w szafie and Artur Grabowski’s Cnoty zachodniej cywilizacji. This article aims to show not only the way the above-mentioned literary texts present the figure of the Pope, his life and works, but also his influence on the life of ordinary people. By researching John Paul II’s presence in literature, this article helps to contribute to the commemoration of the Pope Saint.

    Artykuł jest analizą utworów Kazimierza Brauna z lat 2016–2020 (Dzwon na trwogę, Płonący teatr, Próba Apokalipsy i Teatr@ziemia.niebo), ujętych jako cykl ujawniających nachylenie autobiograficzne powieści teatralnych. Teatr staje się w nich tematem, przestrzenią kreacji, przyczynkiem do rozważań o kondycji współczesnej sztuki teatralnej oraz sposobem widzenia świata. Obraz teatru przechowanego w pamięci Brauna reżysera łączy się z wtopionym w mitologizującą pamięć marzeniem o teatrze i projekcją jego pożądanej przyszłości. Prymarnej kwestii misyjności teatru w wymiarze indywidualnym, narodowym i społecznym towarzyszy krytyczna refleksja o teatralnej teraźniejszości, w znacznej mierze wyrastająca z oceny dokonań Drugiej Reformy Teatru formułowanej przez jej uczestnika i kronikarza. Dlatego ważnym punktem odniesienia w analizie powieści są teatrologiczne artykuły i książki Brauna. Tajemnica życia i teatru – wydobyta przez autorkę jako lejtmotyw powieściowego cyklu – dotyczy ścisłego związku między światem kreacji a duchowym wymiarem ludzkiego istnienia i odnosi się do transformacji realnego, skończonego i doczesnego w wyobrażone, duchowe i nieśmiertelne. W esencjalistycznym ujęciu Brauna tajemnica ta jest zarazem istotą teatru i aktorstwa. Autorka stawia tezę, że wymiar metateatralny konstruowanego w powieściach Brauna świata łączy się ściśle z procesem autointerpretacji i autokreacji autora jako badacza i praktyka.
    This article analyzes Kazimierz Braun’s works from 2016–2020 (Dzwon na trwogę [Alarum Bell], Płonący teatr [The Burning Theatre], Próba Apokalipsy [Apocalypse Rehearsal] and Teatr@ziemia.niebo [Theatre@earth.heaven]) as a series of theater novels with an autobiographical slant. Here, theater becomes a theme, a space for creation, a contribution to reflections on the condition of contemporary theater art, and a way of seeing the world. The image of theater in the memory of Braun the theater director is combined with a dream of theater and a vision of its desired future, which are embedded in a mythologizing memory. The central question of theater’s mission at the individual, national, and social level is accompanied by a critical reflection on present theater, which largely stems from Braun’s evaluation of the achievements of so-called “Second Theatre Reform,” of which he was a participant and chronicler. Therefore, an important point of reference in the analysis of Braun’s novels is provided by his articles and books in theater studies. The mystery of life and theater, which the author of the article has identified as the leitmotif of the novel series, concerns the close relationship between the creative world and the spiritual dimension of human existence and refers to the transformation of the real, finite, and temporal into the imaginary, spiritual, and immortal. In Braun’s essentialist view, this mystery is at the same time the essence of theater and acting. The author argues that the metatheatrical dimension of the world constructed in Braun’s novels is closely linked to the process of the author’s self-interpretation and self-creation as a scholar and practitioner.

    Kiwifruit is one of the healthiest fruits due to its high content of biologically active substances and nutrients. The most popular species of Actinidia (kiwifruit) are the Actinidia deliciosa fruits called kiwi and Actinidia chinensis commonly called golden kiwi, while the lesser known species is Actinidia arguta known as mini kiwi. Bioactivities and nutrients of Actinidia are influenced by species and cultivars. It is very important to find a way to distinguish kiwifruit samples from botanical and geographical origin. For this purpose, the possibility of application of electronic nose based on ultra-fast gas chromatography for differentiation three types of kiwifruit was investigated. A set of 18 samples of kiwifruits were analyzed by fast GC e-nose. This device contains two parallel chromatography columns with different polarity connected with two flame ionization detectors (μ-FIDs). Four data analysis methods were used: discriminant function analysis (DFA), principal component analysis (PCA), soft independent modeling of class analogies (SIMCA), and statistical quality control (SQC). Application of e-nose based on fast GC system allows to effective and rapid compare of aroma profiles of three types of kiwifruits. PCA, DFA and SIMCA data analysis method were for visualization the discrimination between groups of kiwifruit species. The SQC method allowed to assess the quality of the samples. All of used chemometric methods allows for full discrimination of all groups of samples. In summary, the use of ultra-fast GC with four statistical methods can be used to discrimination of kiwifruit samples due to their botanical and geographical origins.
