Opis:: Cosmogenic radionuclides in meteoroids are produced in space in the process of activation. These nuclides have various lifetimes in range from a few days to several hundred thousand years and can therefore be helpful in solving several problems related to the study of meteoroids and their remains, both in space and on the Earth. The simplest application of cosmogenic radionuclide decay in meteorites is to determine the terrestrial age of meteorites, especially those whose fall has not been observed. In this article, we present an additional application of cosmogenic radionuclide measurements, namely for the verification of origin of rocks that show equivocal features and may potentially represent meteorites.

Wyniki prezentowane w tej publikacji dotyczą czterech różniących się liczebnością grup pracowników (lekarzy, pielęgniarek, ratowników medycznych oraz przedstawicieli innych zawodów medycznych i niemedycznych) ze 114 jednostek ochrony zdrowia zlokalizowanych w całym kraju, a także pacjentów z tych samych jednostek medycznych oraz pacjentów z próby populacyjnej (osób leczących się w ostatnich 24 miesiącach). Opisując wyniki, wybrano tematy najważniejsze z punktu widzenia dyskusji nad humanizacją medycyny, silnie akcentując kontekst pandemii COVID-19.
This report is based on research conducted under a grant from Poland’s Medical Research Agency, carried out at the University of Warsaw from May 2021 to June 2023. Preliminary findings were presented at the First Congress on the Humanization of Medicine held at the University of Warsaw in June 2022, organized by the Polish Ministry of Health, the Medical Research Agency, and the University of Warsaw. The survey results presented herein concern four different groups of healthcare employees (physicians, nurses, paramedics, and representatives of other medical and non-medical professions) working at 114 health care units located across the country, a sample of patients at the same medical units, as well as a separate population-based sample of patients from across Poland (individuals who had received medical treatment in the last 24 months).

Opis:: The research paper presents the concept of secondarily multimodal work, which problematizes the status of e.g.: visual elements added to further editions of an initially monomodal text in the context of its interpretation. This issue is discussed using the example of Bronka Nowicka’s volume To Feed a Stone (2015; 2017), which was expanded in the second edition with photographs and tomographs of the objects described. The analysis shows that some added graphic elements break up the coherence of the narrative and both reinforce and undermine the mimesis in the work. They function based on the principle of a Derridean supplement: they complement and condition the content of the verbal passages. The article concludes with a study of art volumes that are part of Nowicka’s intermedia project focusing on exploring the relationship between image and memory.

Opis:: The Polish Fireball Network (PFN), has been undergoing continuous development. Since then, several large grants have been obtained, which were at least partly used for modernization purposes. In recent years, two more grants have been obtained, which allowed for the expansion and modification of the existing PFN infrastructure. In 2021, the PFN76 Kozienice was modernized, but also the PFN14 Zielona Góra station was reactivated and the new PFN77 Suhora station was launched in 2022. Thanks to these improvements, the tracking of meteoroids entering the Earth Atmosphere above Poland became more accurate, which facilitates the search for meteorites and increases the chances of finding new fresh meteorites in Poland. On the night of May 10, 2021, PFN stations registered an exceptionally slow bolide. The phenomenon named PF100521 Wykrot appeared over central Poland in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship at 21:32 UT and calculations showed that some meteorites may have fallen. This phenomenon was used to conduct a series of analyzes to show how observational uncertainties affect the final results. Two variants of the results are presented in this work.

Opis:: Przedmiotem artykułu są przekształcenia terenów poprzemysłowych analizowane w kontekście działań podejmowanych w dwóch zbliżonych do siebie regionach: Metropolii Ruhry (Niemcy) i Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowskiej Metropolii GZM (Polska). Artykuł prezentuje wycinek badań ograniczony do wybranych przykładów rewitalizacji terenów poprzemysłowych w obydwu regionach, a w szczególności do przekształceń kompleksu kopalni węgla kamiennego i koksowni Zollverein w Essen. W oparciu o analizę dokumentów i literatury przedmiotu oraz studium przypadków opracowanie ma na celu wykazanie podobieństwa omawianych regionów, identyfikację i wskazanie zasadniczych kierunków przekształceń terenów poprzemysłowych, a także działań koniecznych do podjęcia w procesie ich rewitalizacji.
The subject of the article is the transformation of post-industrial areas, analyzed in the context of activities undertaken in two closely related regions: the Ruhr Metropolis in Germany and the Metropolis of Upper Silesia - Zagłębie GZM (Metropolis GZM) in Poland. The article presents a fragment of the research limited to selected examples of post-industrial regeneration in both regions, and in particular to the transformation of the coal mine complex and the Zollverein coking plant in Essen. Based on the analysis of documents and literature on the subject as well as a case study, the aim of the paper is to show the similarity of the discussed regions, to identify and indicate: basic directions of transformation of post-industrial areas, as well as actions necessary to take in the process of their revitalization.

Pokazuje związki między rzeczywistą a zmyśloną biografią semiologa i odsłania znaczenie najistotniejszych “biograficznych przesunięć”. Ujawnia relację między literackim sobowtórem Ewy Kuryluk i nią samą: pomiędzy bohaterką i autorką nie ma pełnej tożsamości. Charakter tej relacji jest metonimiczny: działania powieściowej Ewy są śladami poczynań pisarki, co prowokuje do zadania pytań o kwestię niemożności twórczej oraz o powód uczynienia Barthes’a główną postacią Encyklopedierotyku.
The article presents an interpretation of a postmodern epistolary novel – Encyclopaedierotic, focused on biofictional and autofictional writing strategies, It also recreates Ewa Kuryluk’s criticism of A Lover’s Discourse: Fragments by Roland Barthes. It introduces the connections between the veritable and fictitious biography of the semiologist and uncovers the meaning of the most significant “biographical transpositions.” It reveals the relationship between Kuryluk’s literary doppelgänger and herself: they are not completely identical. The nature of this relation is metonymical: the activities of literary Ewa are the traces of writer’s actions, a fact that raises issues of creative impossibility and calls into question the choice of making Barthes the main protagonist of Encyclopaedierotic.

Opis:: African swine fever (ASF), remains serious epidemiologic and economic concern in pig industry in Europe and Asia. The true rates of ASF spread in the individual countries, affected by this disease, are different from the theoretical scenarios. The most unpredictable factor, which is also crucial in the new episodes of ASF in wild boar observed in the areas thus far free from this disease, is human activity. These areas could be located several to even hundred kilometers from the current region of ASF occurrence in wild boar. An example may be represented by the occurrence of ASF cases in wild boar around Warsaw area in 2017, as well as in western Poland in autumn 2019. Therefore ASF may spread in wild boar population not only in a low, “natural” way, at a rate of 1–2 km per month, but also by human-mediated transfer of the virus at a rate of dozens or hundreds of kilometers. The administrative measures introduced by the Chief Veterinary Officer and the representatives of Veterinary Inspection in Poland, aimed at limiting further ASF expansion in wild boar to northern, western and southern regions. Further scenario for ASF spreading in wild boar and pig population will depend on joint, consistent and effective actions and collaboration between the Veterinary Inspection, hunters and pig producers in Poland.

The present interpretative essay includes issues touched upon by the two authors: anti-Semitisms, the Holocaust witnesses’ silence, childhood in post-war Poland, description of communist realities, the role of memory. Differences between the writers relating to their attitudes, style, and the question of Jewish identity are presented.

Opis:: Artykuł podejmuje problematykę prezentowania projektów architektonicznych w celu umożliwienia poddania osądowi zewnętrznej formy budynków w szerokim kręgu interesariuszy. Narzędziami stosowanymi w dotychczasowej praktyce były trójwymiarowe makiety, a od czasu upowszechnienia się technologii informatycznych również dwuwymiarowe wizualizacje. Autorzy uważają, że istnieje narzędzie mające zalety wcześniej wymienionych i pozbawione ich wad. Jest nim rzeczywistość rozszerzona. W pracy przybliżono jej pojęcie oraz zaprezentowano przegląd dostępnych metod wizualizowania obiektów w środowisku rzeczywistości rozszerzonej. Wskazano typowe przykłady rozbieżności pomiędzy wyglądem zrealizowanego obiektu a jego prezentacją w fazie projektowania, których można by uniknąć, wykorzystując technologię BIM jako narzędzie projektowe, a rzeczywistość rozszerzoną jako medium transmitujące informację wizualną. Zwrócono uwagę na możliwości partycypacji społecznej w kształtowaniu form architektonicznych budynków, która mogłaby przyjmować formę bierną lub czynną.
The article discusses the issue of presenting architectural designs in order to allow the external form of buildings to be judged by a wide range of stakeholders. The three-dimensional mock-ups, and since the dissemination of information technologies, also two-dimensional visualizations, have been the tools used in the hitherto practice. The authors believe that there is a tool that has the advantages of both previously mentioned and does not have their disadvantages. It is augmented reality. The article presents its concept and an overview of available methods of visualizing objects in the augmented reality environment. Typical examples of discrepancies between the appearance of the completed object and its presentation in the design phase, which could be avoided using BIM technology as a design tool, and augmented reality as a medium transmitting visual information, have been indicated. Attention was paid to the possibility of social participation in shaping the architectural forms of buildings, which could take the form of passive or active participation.

Opis:: This article analyses the transformative infl uence of Marcel Proust’s fi ction on early works of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz (1925–1927) in the light of the short story Nowa miłość [A New Love]. The article argues – on the basis of a reconstruction of the order in which Iwaszkiewicz read the volumes of In Search of Lost Time – that the date of its composition has be to revised and proceeds to explore the affi nity between the two writers. The analyses, which draw on Harold Bloom’s infl uence theory, compare and contrast their handling of scenes and narratives, relations of analogy and visions of love. The article claims that Iwaszkiewicz was keen to enter into dialogue with the French author and adopted some of Proust’s techniques, yet without compromising his own creative autonomy. In the course of that dialogue he developed a notion of Proust’s literary art which, it is argued, provides the key to the interpretation of homoeroticism and narcissism in Nowa miłość.
