Opis:
Research background: In 2015, the United Nations (UN) set the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and established 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) containing the social, economic, and environmental pillars of sustainable development. These focus on governments, society, non-profit organisations, and the private sector. This last pillar plays a key role in the pursuit of these goals, but there remains a lack of knowledge regarding how companies achieve the SDGs. Purpose of the article: Some authors have analysed the effect of companies' adoption of the SDGs on their business performance. However, there is a gap in the analysis of this influence when considering the groups of SDGs. This study examines the level of commitment of a sample of Spanish companies with a grouping of the SDGs and their effects on business results. Methods: We obtained information on companies from the UNGC and developed a panel regression. Findings & value added: We concluded that all the SDGs do not have the same effect on companies that incorporate them into their activities. Although it is possible to make progress in all the SDGs, complementarities and trade-offs influence companies' results. The results obtained in this study incorporate new ideas into this issue and provide a new vision of how companies should incorporate sustainability into their businesses. It is not a question of achieving as many sustainable development goals as possible, but rather of focusing on those that can contribute the most to improving business performance. The clustering of the SDGs that we have undertaken and their subsequent analysis facilitates this work.

Opis:
The permanence of Seri basketry has been explained by twentieth-century anthropologists as a result of its introduction into the local, regional, national and international markets and by the link of this activity to pre-Hispanic symbolism. As a result of thinking through things (Henare, Holbraad y Wastell 2007), a methodology on which this paper is based, the Seri baskets dictated the premises of their own analysis. In this paper I describe the Seri basketry manufacturing processes and techniques in order to highlight two mechanisms: the permanence of a production method (collecting, burning and peeling of the torote branches), and the technical variation that generates distinction in individual production (processing fibers, dyeing, weaving and creating designs). In both these mechanisms exogenous and endogenous elements and motifs are integrated in the baskets’ shapes and designs, thus producing innovation which is experienced by Seri women in El Desemboque, Sonora, as a process of personal creativity. Permanence and technical variation are connected through a female family memory, an expression of the fact that chang is a condition for continuity. Based on the description of the Seri basketry manufacturing processes and techniques, this article aims to examine the relevance of the anthropological question of permanence and its premises (cf. Carneiro da Cunha 2009) to the organization of Seri knowledge and practice.

Opis:
The Error Analysis Approach has been widely used to improve the learning of foreign languages and to evaluate human translation, but Error Analysis can also be applied to automatic translation, as shown by different scholars (see M. Koponen 2010). This article reports on a European project, called Organic.Lingua, which tries to demonstrate the potential of a multilingual web portal for Sustainable Agricultural & Environmental Education by using a machine translator in order to make available all materials in different languages. The selected texts are taken from the corpus compiled for this project. The source texts are translated into various target languages using computer translation tools. We have chosen some of these texts in English and their translations into Spanish, and have applied a classification of human errors to check whether the errors generated by machines could be avoided if we can ‘teach’ the machines or to what extent they are specific to computer tools or human beings. Some metric systems, such as BLEU (Bilingual Evaluation Understudy), are being employed to evaluate the quality of the target translation. However, our role as philologers is to concentrate on more specific linguistic features. By defining the different types of errors and by trying to establish a scale of gravity, we intend to determine the quality of the automatic translations. After analysing the data, we will propose linguistic measures for improvement that would be implemented by computer experts working on the project.
