Opis:
Given a connected graph and a vertex $x ∈ V (G)$, the geodesic graph $P_x(G)$ has the same vertex set as $G$ with edges $uv$ iff either $v$ is on an $x − u$ geodesic path or $u$ is on an $x − v$ geodesic path. A characterization is given of those graphs all of whose geodesic graphs are complete bipartite. It is also shown that the geodetic number of the Cartesian product of $K_{m,n}$ with itself, where $m, n ≥ 4$, is equal to the minimum of $m, n$ and eight.

Opis:
The present study discusses the adsorption kinetics of arsenic(V) on granular ferric hydroxide (GEH) and the GEH adsorption capacity for arsenic(V) at equilibrium. The impact of temperature on GEH adsorption capacity was studied, as well as the effects of the initial concentration of arsenic(V) and GEH concentration on the adsorption rates of arsenic(V). The Freundlich isotherm describes the arsenic(V) adsorption behavior reasonably well (r2 > 0.965). The adsorption kinetics was studied by fitting the experimental data to both first-order and second-order models. The maximum adsorption capacity of arsenic(V) on GEH was 2.701 mg·g–1, which is higher than the adsorption capacities of other adsorbents reported. The kinetics of arsenic(V) adsorption was well defined by the second-order model, with the correlation coefficients in the range of 0.960–0.987. This study shows that due to its properties, GEH is a good candidate for removal of arsenic(V) from groundwater.

Opis:
The anatomy and phylogenetic systematics of a well preserved hadrosauroid dentary collected in the 1990s from uppermost Maastrichtian strata (within chron C29r) of the Figuerola Formation, in the Àger syncline of the southern Pyrenees in northeastern Spain are revised. The specimen represents a new genus and species of basally branching hadrosauroid dinosaur, Fylax thyrakolasus gen. et sp. nov. This taxon is the third hadrosaurid outgroup species erected in Europe so far and the stratigraphically youngest non-hadrosaurid hadrosauroid known to date. It is diagnosed on the basis of a unique combination of characters such as a dorsal region of the coronoid process that is at least as wide anteroposteriorly as 30% of dental battery length, a coronoid process inclined anteriorly less than 80º relative to the alveolar margin of the dentary, steeply inclined and flat occlusal surface of the dental battery, and dentary tooth crowns 2.8–3.3 times taller than wide without marginal denticles and with a pair of major long ridges on the enameled lingual surface. The parsimony analysis confirmed that F. thyrakolasus gen. et sp. nov. is a close outgroup to Hadrosauridae. However, we also found that it is sister to the hadrosauroid Tethyshadros insularis form the late Campanian–early Maastrichtian Adriatic-Dinaric Carbonate Platform (present-day Italy). Maximum likelihood reconstruction of ancestral areas on the time calibrated phylogeny revealed that the ancestry of the Fylax–Tethyshadros clade has Appalachian roots. This study supports an Asian origin for hadrosauroids and subsequent dispersal to Appalachia, where Hadrosauridae likely originated. In this scenario, the Late Cretaceous European Archipelago could have facilitated the dispersal of hadrosaurid outgroups from Asia to Appalachia.

We describe and re−evaluate the systematics of specimens from the Maastrichtian Moreno Formation of California (west− ern USA) as a new species of Saurolophus, the only known genus of hadrosaurid dinosaur widespread in Asia and North America. Recognition of this new species adds substantially to the record of the taxonomic diversity of these animals west of the Rocky Mountains. The new species, Saurolophus morrisi, is diagnosed by the possession of a postorbital having or− namentation in form of wide oblique groove on jugal process. Placement of this new species in Saurolophus considerably expands the distribution of this genus, although this referral is arbitrary since phylogenetic analysis places the new species outside of the clade formed by Saurolophus osborni and Saurolophus angustirostris. However, recognition of a new, en− demic Californian hadrosaurid, especially one so closely related to both Asian and North American species, may have im− plications for future studies of both the internal biogeography of Western North America, and the history of exchange with Asia.

Hadrosaurus foulkii was the first dinosaur known outside Europe from partially complete skeletal elements. It is the holotype of the family Hadrosauridae and the subfamily Hadrosaurinae. The history of its discovery and taxonomy is reviewed, and the holotype of H. foulkii is redescribed. The holotype of H. foulkii lacks distinguishing characters; therefore, this taxon is a nomen dubium. It is not synonymous with species of Gryposaurus and/or Kritosaurus. We also reevaluate the taxonomy and osteology of H. tripos, H. minor, H. cavatus, H. breviceps, H. paucidens, and Ornithotarsus immanis. In agreement with previous studies, these taxa are considered nomina dubia due to the absence of distinguishing characters and are therefore referrable only to Hadrosauridae indeterminate; H. paucidensis referrable to Lambeosaurinae indeterminate. Finally, our phylogenetic analysis indicates that the holotype of H. foulkii belongs to a member of Euhadrosauria and, tentatively, of Hadrosaurinae.

Opis:
Pseudofurnishius is a late Anisian (Pelsonian)–early Carnian (Cordevolian) conodont genus of gondolellid stock, characteristic for the Sephardic Province and restricted to the “Southern Tethys” region of the northern margin of Gondwana. Its most commonly found species, Pseudofurnishius murcianus, appears at the base of the Ladinian (Fassanian). The Ladinian material of Spain reveals its ontogeny characterised by initial lateral protrusions from the carina that may develop first mono-platform and later bi-platform units, finally evolving into elaborated multi-denticulated forms. The late Anisian– early Carnian phylogenesis of Pseudofurnishius priscus → P. shagami → P. murcianus is proposed. At the end of the Ladinian, Pseudofurnishius expanded to the entire “Southern Tethys” shelf and into Cimmerian terranes that drifted away from northern Gondwana, now accreted to Eurasia, such as the Sibumasu terrane (Southwest China–Malayan Peninsula).

Opis:
Chemical processes use to be non-minimum phase systems. Thereby, they are a challenge for control applications. In this paper, fuzzy state feedback is applied in the Van de Vusse reaction that has an inverse response. The control design has an integrator to enhance the control performance by eliminating the steady-state error when a step reference is applied. An anti-windup action is used to reduce the undershoot in the system response. In practice, it is not possible to have always access to all the state variables. Thus, a fuzzy state observer is implemented via LMIs. Frequently, the papers that show similar applications present some comments about disturbance rejection. To eliminate the steady-state error when a ramp reference is used, in this work, a second integrator is aggregated. Now, the anti-windup also reduces the overshoot generated due to the usage of two integrators in the final application.

The objective of the work was to evaluate the influence of gold nanoparticles, obtained by laser ablation, on the photocatalytic action of titanium dioxide in the improvement of the physical-chemical parameters of domestic greywater, with visualization by means of a PLC. The YAG laser equipment was used for the production of spherical gold nanoparticles, whereas the Raman spectroscope allowed characterizing the different particles contained in aqueous solutions. The solar photoreactor programmable and viewable from PLC with connection to sensors allowed determining the variations of the pH, EC, DO and FCL parameters. The work consisted of a control group (greywater + titanium dioxide) and an experimental group (greywater + titanium dioxide + gold nanoparticles). The titanium dioxide doses for both groups were 0.5 mg/L and the gold nanoparticles were 0.20 ml per liter of greywater only for the control group. The experiments were carried out on sunny days with the exposure periods of 30 and 60 minutes around solar noon with an average UV index of 13.35. Once the experiments were carried out, it was determined that the pH improved by 5.30%, EC by 3.03%, DO by 29.3% and FCL by 43.71%, so that the gold nanoparticles dissolved in the aqueous solution of titanium dioxide with greywater positively influenced the improvement of the photocatalytic action of titanium dioxide in the physical-chemical parameters of greywater.

Opis:
In this paper we revise recent results of our team in the optimization of twisted nematic liquid crystal displays to be used as spatial light modulators for image processing and diffractive optics. In general two kind of responses are desired for the mentioned applications: amplitude-only and phase-only modulations. However, it is not a trivial task to find the polarization configurations for which these responses are obtained. We show that a reverse-engineering approach is needed to optimize the liquid crystal display response. According to this reverse-engineering approach the modulation characteristics can be calibrated by evaluating the modulation response in a few polarization configurations. These results are used to fit the liquid crystal display behavior to a simplified physical model, which uses two modulation parameters. We demonstrate that the degree of accuracy of this model is very high, thus enabling the prediction of the modulation behavior of the display at other polarization configurations. Therefore, we can perform computer searches for the optimum orientation of the polarizing elements to obtain the required optical transmission. We demonstrate the need to use short wavelengths and the need to insert wave plates in front and behind the liquid crystal displays to obtain either amplitude-only or phase-only regime.
