Opis:
The aim of the study was to evaluate the content of colloids in septic tank effluent and their impact on textile filter permeability. Measurements were performed on septic tank effluent without suspended solids but containing colloids and without colloids – including only dissolved substances (filtered by micro-filters and centrifuged). The study was conducted on unclogged and clogged textile filter coupons. During the study the following measurements were conducted: turbidity, chemical oxygen demand and hydraulic conductivity of textile filter coupons. The colloid size range was assumed to be less than 1.2 microns according to the literature. Despite the relatively low content in the septic tank effluent the colloids played an important role in the clogging process. Both the filtering media, filled with low (unclogged) and high content of biomass (clogged) were sensitive to the clogging process acceleration due to the possibility of small diameter pore closure and oxygen access termination. Moreover, small size pores were probably sensitive to closing or bridging by small size colloidal particles.

Opis:
The paper presents the concept of energy-saving architecture as a way to increase the use of renewable energy sources in the energy economy and increase the level of eco-innovation in Poland. Solutions leading to the minimisation of costs of energy supply and consumption in the internal building system are presented. The paper shows basic forms of building optimization and the possibility of their adjustment to the existing directives and regulations of the European Union using modem technologies. The reflections have been supported by examples of good practice in the field in Europe and worldwide.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence and intensity of parasitic gastrointestinal infections in free-range chickens from the West Pomerania province. Experimental material for the study was taken from 10 farms. Breeds raised in farms participating in the study included miniature chickens called Polish Lilliputians and Greenlegged Partridge. A total of 104 samples of faeces were examined. The Willis-Schlaff flotation method was used to assess the prevalence of infection, and McMaster’s method to evaluate the intensity. The presence of gastrointestinal parasites was found in 9 of the 10 farms. Oocysts of the genus Eimeria and eggs of gastrointestinal nematodes Ascaridia galli, Heterakis gallinarum and Trichostrongylus tenuis were isolated from the chicken faeces. Coccidiosis was found to be dominant parasitosis. The prevalence of infections on these farms with protozoa of Eimeria spp. was on average 32.7%, while for nematode species they amounted to 9.6% for Ascaridia galli, 5.7% for Heterakis gallinarum and 12.5% for Trichostrongylus tenuis. The results indicate the need to take preventive measures, designed to eliminate/reduce the risk of parasitoses in poultry from free-range systems. Focus should be placed on the hygiene of the farming conditions.

Opis:
The gain enhancement in a layered periodic photonic band gap structure containing active medium based on GaAs n-i-p-i superlattices separated by A1GaAs layers is analyzed. The dependences of extinction coefficient and refractive index on excitation level and wavelength are presented. Transmission characteristics of a probe light versus excitation level are calculated. It is shown that the threshold of generation can be essentially reduced if the wavelength of probe light falls to the band gap edge.
