    This article focuses on an extremely urgent problem of today’s christian dialogue with china, i.e. the culture (and politics) of the people’s republic of china (prc) and asks whether a christian dialogue with china – which understand herself as an atheist and communist state, which, however, is a country of many religious traditions, is possible, and if so in what form? What are its prospects and challenges? the starting point of the article, after some historical remarks, is a kind of heterotopy of the dialogue in chinese context, involving (iii.1.) the historical and political context, then (iii.2) its partners, and fnally (iii.3) its forms and contents. in this framework, this article is (iV) refection on the challenges, opportunities and prospects of the christian dialogue with chinese culture. this refection is not taken here from the standpoint of theology, but is rather a phenomenological description of the status quo.At the end of the article (V) some statements of pope John paul ii with regard to the dialogue of christianity with chinese culture are quoted as a kind of summary. The article states a great asymmetry of partners of the dialogue in china caused by the restrictive religious policy. there are some forms of dialogue which, however, are realized outside of the   nstitutionalized christianity, i.e. the christian churches. The churches themselves, due to their historical background, are not very interested in or prepared for an inter-religious dialogue.

    Opis:
    Die Frage nach Jesus Christus ist zweifelsohne eine zentrale Frage des christlichen Selbstverständnisses und der Verkündigung. Wer ist Jesus von Nazaret? Wer ist Jesus Christus? Diese Fragen werden seit urchristlichen Zeiten immer wieder gestellt und unterschiedlich beantwortet. Sie sind auch, focusiert auf China, Gegenstand des vorliegenden Beitrags. Für wen halten die Chinesen Jesus? Vor dem Hintergrund der chinesischen Missionsgeschichte wird in dem Beitrag versucht, die verschiedenen, historisch-kontextuell bedingten Gesichter Jesu Christi in einem Überblick darzustellen. Dabei handelt es sich nicht nur um die ikonographischen Darstellungen Jesu, sondern auch das Verständnis Jesu durch die Chinesen – Konvertiten wie Opponenten. Gefragt wird nach der Herkunft und Rezeption dieser Gesichter in verschiedenen Epochen der chinesischen Geschichte (seit der Tang-Zeit, d.h. seit dem VII Jh. n.Chr.). Nachdem das Problem der Übersetzung der christlichen Botschaft vom Erlöser Jesus Christus im chinesischen Kontext angesprochen wurde, stellt der Beitrag die einzelnen Epochen der Missionsgeschichte Chinas vor und versucht, die Spezifik des Gesichtes Jesu in ihnen hervorzuheben. Es zeigt sich dabei ein vielfältiges Bild, das ausführlicher – worauf im Beitrag jeweils hingewiesen wird – in dem vom Verfasser herausgegebenen fünfbändigen Sammelwerk The Chinese Face of Jesus Christ (Sankt Augustin-Nettetal 2002-2007) von verschiedenen Fachleuten aus der ganzen Welt besprochen wird. Die zahlreichen Gesichter Jesu in China sind zweifelsohne eine Herausforderung an unser westliches Jesusverständnis. Diese Herausforderung wird noch durch zahlreiche ikonographische (westliche und chinesische) Darstellungen Jesu in China verstärkt. Dem Beitrag wurden einige Darstellungen als Beispiele angehängt.
    The question about Jesus Christ is without a doubt a crucial one to the meaning of Christianity itself and its revelation. Who is Jesus of Nazareth? Who is Jesus Christ? These questions are posed from the beginning of Christianity and still we have varying answers to them. They are also found in China and are the subject of the submitted article. Who do the Chinese take Jesus for? On the background of the Chinese history of missions, in the article first there are shown various, conditioned historically and contextually, faces of Jesus Christ. What is worth remembering, it is not pure iconographic representation of Jesus that is important here – it is also about understanding Jesus by the Chinese, both the converts as well as the opponents. The question concerns then the origin and reception of these faces in different periods of Chinese history (since the times of Tang till the 7th century AD). After the process of translating the Good News of the Saviour Jesus Christ was executed in the Chinese context, the present author discusses the individual eras of the history of missions in China, separating the specificity of the face of Jesus created by each of them. The interpretation of this diversified picture of Jesus – made by R. Malek together with a group of specialists from around the world – was published in a five-volume work The Chinese Face of Jesus (Sankt Augustin-Nettetal 2002-2007). Numerous “Chinese faces of Jesus” – especially in the iconographic interpretation – constitute a great challenge for our western understanding of Jesus.
    Pytanie o Jezusa Chrystusa jest bez wątpienia kluczowe w rozumieniu samego chrześcijaństwa i jego objawienia. Kim jest Jezus z Nazaretu? Kim jest Jezus Chrystus? Pytania te są stawiane od początków chrześcijaństwa i ciągle mamy na nie różne odpowiedzi. One również występują w Chinach i są przedmiotem przedłożonego artykułu. Za Kogo Chińczycy uważają Jezusa? Na tle chińskiej historii misji w artykule ukazane są najpierw różne, uwarunkowane historycznokontekstualne, oblicza Jezusa Chrystusa. Przy tym chodzi nie tylko o ikonograficzne przedstawienie Jezusa, lecz także o zrozumienie Jezusa przez Chińczyków – konwertytów, jak i przeciwników. Pytanie dotyczy pochodzenia i odbioru tych twarzy w różnych okresach historii Chin (od czasów Tanga do VII wieku n.e.). Po tym, jak proces przełożenia Dobrej Nowiny o Zbawicielu Jezusie Chrystusie dokonał się w kontekście chińskim, autor omawia poszczególne epoki historii misji w Chinach z wyodrębnieniem specyfiki oblicza Jezusa stworzonego przez każdą z nich. Interpretacja tego zróżnicowanego obrazu Jezusa – dokonana przez R. Malka wespół z grupą specjalistów z całego świata – opublikowana została w pięciotomowym dziele The Chinese Face of Jesus (Sankt Augustin-Nettetal 2002-2007). Liczne „chińskie oblicza Jezusa” – zwłaszcza w interpretacji ikonograficznej – stanowią wielkie wyzwanie dla naszego zachodniego rozumienia Jezusa.
