    The article presents a relatively new and innovative research methods in the Polish science environment, i.e. "weak signals" and "wild card" as a creative methods of anticipating an some aspects of uncertain future. There is made general characteristics of the concepts of these methods. These methods are analyzed in the context of the idea of foresight as well as its research methodology. Despite the absence of codified rules for the application of weak signals and wild cards methods, the author also presents own example of the process of identifying weak signals and the wild card, drawing on experience gained in the European project iKnow.

    Technologiczne zmiany są często niepewne i dwuznaczne, nie mogąc być w pełni prognozowane. Dlatego też selekcja i kreacja przyszłości pożądanej - główny cel foresightu - oraz ułatwianie jej realizacji powinny być jednym z głównych celów polityki technologicznej, a co za tym idzie procesu zarządzania technologią. W artykule przedstawiono stosunkowo nową w polskim środowisku B+R koncepcję powiązania zarządzania technologią z nowoczesnym podejściem antycypacyjnym, jakim jest zarządzanie przyszłością odzwierciedlone głównie poprzez działania foresightowe. Przedstawiono również przykłady polskich i światowych inicjatyw, w których wykorzystano foresightowe metody badawcze odnoszące się ściśle do aspektu technologicznego.
    Technological changes are often ambiguous, uncertain and unable to be fully predicted. Therefore, the selection and creation of a desired future - the main aim of foresight - and facilitating its implementation should be one of the main objectives of technology policy and thus the process of technology management. The article presents, relatively new in the Polish R+D environment, the concept of relationship technology management with the modern approach of anticipatory managing of future reflected mainly through foresight activities. Article also presents examples of Polish and global initiatives in which the research methods used in Foresight is closely related to the technological aspect.

    W artykule zaprezentowano autorską – opartą na zjawisku hybrydowości – referencyjną procedurę doboru antycypacyjnych (foresighto-wych) metod badawczych. Hybrydowość powinna ułatwić zrozumienie procesu projektowania programów dotyczących procesu zarządzania przyszłością (krajów, regionów, przedsiębiorstw, branż, społeczeństw etc.) przez jego głównych wykonawców. W opinii autora przedstawione w artykule koncepcje będą mogły być wykorzystane przez osoby zarządzające programami foresight, usprawniając proces organizacyjny całego programu.
    The article presents the author's reference procedure for the construction of an anticipatory hybrid system. The developed methodology of design foresight of the hybrid system is based on theoretical considerations concerning: the specificity of foresight studies; ordering the typology and classification of research methods foresight; a significant expansion of the number of applicable research methods. This methodology takes into account the proposals emphasize foresight studies selected contexts: technological, cognitive and social.

    Publikacja prezentuje syntetyczne ujęcie oraz rekomendacje dotyczące głównych etapów badań foresightowych jako jednych z najważniejszych podejść w procesie kreowania innowacyjnej wizji rozwojowej różnych obszarów (technologicznych, regionalnych, branżowych etc.). Wyniki zaprezentowane w publikacji oparte są na szczegółowej literaturze przedmiotu oraz doświadczeniu autora wynikającego z jego czynnego udziału w kilkunastu przedsięwzięciach foresightowych, również w charakterze współautora metodyki badawczej jednego z projektów.

    The main aim of this article is to present characteristics of a new methodology for the identification and analysis of wild cards, using grounded (selected) methodical achievements of future studies, in particular, the Delphi method, SWOT analysis, STEEPVL analysis, and the method of weak signals. The novelty of this approach refers to (1) minimizing the subjectivity effect and (2) using a complex approach to study phenomenon. An additional aim is to characterize the practical application of the new method in analysis for the complex developing phenomenon – the Internet of Everything. This complexity affects the occurrence of many areas of uncertainties. In the author's opinion, the use of a comprehensive analysis of prospective areas whose development is burdened with a high degree of uncertainty will minimize this phenomenon (uncertainty) through multi- preparation for sudden changes. According to the author, by the implementation of the elements of the above-mentioned research approaches, to the methodology of the analysis of the unprecedented events, it is possible to popularize the process of the exploration of wild cards, especially in a Polish (Central European) research environment.
    Głównym celem artykułu jest charakterystyka nowatorskiej metodyki identyfikacji i analizy dzikich kart, wykorzystującej wybrany, ugruntowany dorobek metodyczny badań przyszłości – a w szczególności metody delfickiej, analizy SWOT, analizy STEEPVL oraz słabych sygnałów. Nowatorstwo ujęcia na minimalizacji efektu subiektywizmu przy jednoczesnym kompleksowym (zbliżonym do holistycznego) ujęciu badanego zjawiska. W opinii autora poprzez implementację elementów wyżej wymienionych podejść badawczych do metodyki analizy zdarzeń bezprecedensowych możliwe jest spopularyzowanie metody dzikich kart, zwłaszcza w polskim (europejskim) środowisku badawczym. Celem dodatkowym jest charakterystyka praktycznego zastosowania nowej metody poprzez analizę złożonego rozwojowego zjawiska, jakim jest Internet Wszechrzeczy. Złożoność ta wpływa na występowanie bardzo wielu obszarów niepewności. W opinii autora zastosowanie kompleksowych analiz obszarów, których rozwój obarczony jest dużą dozą niepewności, pomoże to zjawisko (niepewności) zminimalizować poprzez przygotowanie się do trudno przewidywalnych zmian.

    Uncertainty is one of the most important features of many areas of social and economic life, especially in the forward-looking context. On the one hand, the degree of uncertainty is associated with the objective essence of randomness of the phenomenon, and on the other, with the subjective perspective of a man. Futureoriented perception of human activities is laden with an incomplete specificity of the analysed phenomena, their volatility, and lack of continuity. A man is unable to determine, with complete certainty, the further course of these phenomena. According to the author of this article, in order to significantly reduce the uncertainty while making strategic decisions in a complex environment, we should focus our actions on the future through systemic research of foresight. This article attempts to answer the following research questions: 1) What is the relationship between foresight studies in the system perspective to studies of the uncertainty? 2) What classes of foresight methods enable the research of uncertainty in the process of system inquiry of the future? This study conducted deductive reasoning based on the results of the analysis methods and criticism of literature.

    The aim of the article is theoretical characterization of wild cards as future surprising events from today's point of view difficult to anticipate, with a low probability of joining, a significant, negative or positive impact. There have been done the definitional analysis with examples and characterized wide range of conceptual substitutes. In addition, it was done and shown a real analysis of the wild cards in practical terms in selected areas of modern logistics, such as: 3D printing, augmented reality, Big Data, cloud logistics, Internet of Things, robotics & automation, self-driving vehicles, as drivers of the fourth industrial revolution. The implementation of these concepts requires appropriate tools of cooperation between the all parties, a new way of joining and merging of systems such as: manufacturing, shipping, transport, logistics, sales channels, service, etc. These phenomena are so new and complex, and therefore uncertain that require in-depth prospective analysis. One of them may be the identification and analysis of potential wild cards.

    This article presents research attitude to identify unprecedented events as wild card in order to minimiz uncertainty in the sphere of Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 is an innovative, still uncertain today, a vision of a complex system in scale and dimensions, so far not used. All actors involved in the construction of Industry 4.0 should be aware of the possibility of unprecedented events, even if the probability of their occurrence is low.

    Background: High complexity and variability of the environment, the interconnected market, globalization, technological development, have a decisive influence on the essence of logistics management. In the author's opinion, an important qualitative research tool useful in 1) mitigating such areas of logistic uncertainty as: complexity, lack of communication, technology, and in particular lack of logistics vision and 2) minimizing information asymmetries between logistics triad actors is "weak signals" (by their identification and analysis). Weak signals are inaccurate early signs of upcoming events that allow to "recognize of unknowable" in confrontation with strong signals that are sufficiently visible and specific. Methods: In the article were used the results of the method of analysis and logical construction as well as the method of analysis and criticism of the literature as the main research methods. On this basis was performed deductive reasoning. Results: Scientific results is an attempt to answer the following research questions: 1) what is the relationship between weak signals and sources of uncertainty in the area of logistics?; 2) what are the sources of weak signals in the area of uncertain logistics development in relation to contextual search?; 3) which phenomena, minimizing information asymmetries between actors of the logistics triad can be treated as weak signals heralding strong signals, in extreme cases taking the form of wild cards? Conclusions: The main problem in this article is focused on identification sources of weak signals as sources of uncertainty in relation to the development of selected areas of logistics. In the author's opinion, the selected research problem has not been taken up in the literature yet. Analyzes of weak signals are very important part of future management (e.g. foresight) and innovation research. In the author's opinion, logistics also belongs to the field where research of "seeds of changes" seems to be indispensable to avoid the effect of "surprise".
    Wstęp: Wysoka złożoność i zmienność otoczenia, komplikujący się rynek, globalizacja, rozwój technologiczny, w sposób zdecydowany wpływają na istotę zarządzania logistyką. W opinii autora niniejszego artykułu ważnym narzędziem badawczym wpływającym na 1) łagodzenie takich obszarów niepewności logistycznej jak: Complexity, Lack of communication, Technology, a w szczególności Lack of logistics vision oraz 2) minimalizacji information asymmetries pomiędzy aktorami triady logistycznej może być identyfikacja i analiza słabych sygnałów. Słabe sygnały są niedokładnymi wczesnymi zwiastunami nadchodzących wydarzeń, umożliwiającymi "rozpoznanie niepoznawalnego" w konfrontacji z silnymi sygnałami, które są wystarczająco widoczne i konkretne. Metody: W opracowaniu wykorzystano wyniki metody analizy i konstrukcji logicznej oraz metody analizy i krytyki piśmiennictwa jako głównych metod badawczych. Na tej podstawie przeprowadzono wnioskowanie dedukcyjne. Wyniki: Naukowym rezultatem w niniejszym artykule jest próba odpowiedzi na poniższe pytania badawcze: 1) jaka jest relacja słabych sygnałów do źródeł niepewności w obszarze logistyki?; 2) jakie są źródła słabych sygnałów w obszarze niepewnego rozwoju logistyki w relacji do przeszukiwania kontekstowego?; 3) które zjawiska, minimalizujące information asymmetries pomiędzy aktorami triady logistycznej można traktować jako słabe sygnały zwiastujące sygnały mocne, w skrajnym wypadku przyjmujące postać dzikich kart? Wnioski: Główny problem poruszony w niniejszym artykule odnosi się do identyfikacji źródeł słabych sygnałów jako źródeł niepewności w relacji do rozwoju wybranych obszarów logistyki. W opinii autora wybrany problem badawczy nie był dotychczas podejmowany w literaturze przedmiotu. Analizy dotyczące słabych sygnałów są bardzo ważną częścią obecnych badań dot. przyszłości (np. foresight) oraz innowacji. W opinii autora, logistyka należy również do dziedziny, w której nieodzowne wydają się być badania umożliwiające unikanie efektu "zaskoczenia".
