Opis:
Two new localities of orchids: Listera ovata and Dactylorhiza incarnata were found during the floristic investigations carried out in 1996 on the area of ecological uselands “Kopanina I” and “Kopanina II”, situated in the south-west part of Poznań. In the years 1997-1999 the changes of acreage and of population structure of both taxa were observed. Orchids grow in the conditions of strong anthropopressure, on the habitats of clearly secondary nature. However, the significant changes in the number and in the form of individuals were not noted.

Opis:
Achene macro- and micromorphology and pericarp anatomy are described in four Polish species of Anemone (A. narcissiflora, A. nemorosa, A. ranunculoides, A. sylvestris). Biometric analysis showed that achene size varies greatly in all the studied species and is of limited diagnostic value. Three types of sculpture connected with the character of the indumentum were distinguished. The presence or absence of stomata on the achene style and the character of the hair base differentiated A. nemorosa and A. ranunculoides, which have the same type of pericarp ornamentation. The endocarp (number of layers and outline of its cells) was shown to be useful in the systematics of Anemone.

The aim of the work was to estimate the range of morphological variability of seeds of the Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera), from different sites within Poland. It was also verified whether there was a correlation between morphological variability of seeds and type of vegetation from which they originated. Additionally, the seed coat ultrastructure of this species was studied. Biometrical analysis showed remarkable variability of seed morphology. A significant relationship between seed size and type of vegetation was also revealed. However, there was no clear relationship between seed mass and type of vegetation. Based on the structure and ornamentation of epidermal cells, the rugosely ruminate seed coat type was proposed.

Opis:
In recent years extensive attention has been given to the Rubus genus, but knowledge on the ecology of most of its species, including rhythmic development, is still insuffi cient. Such data may have practical applications, since blackberry species are economically important. The goal of the study was to analyse phenology and growth rate of vegetative and generative stems in 10 Rubus species of different systematic affi nity (belonging to two subspecies and three sections), growing in the Dendrological Garden of the Poznań University of Life Sciences. Some habitat factors were also taken into consideration. Field investigations were carried out for three growing seasons. The plants were evaluated for phenology twice a week, while the length of their stems was measured once a week. Diff erences were observed in the seasonal rhythm of individual species. Weather factors distinctly infl uenced the course of development phases in all the Rubus species. Drought during the growing season caused fl owering disorders, withering of fruit, earlier autumn leaf coloration, and fall of leaves. Rubus idaeus and R. fabrimontanus ripened all of their fruits each year of observations and seemed to be the most adapted for fruit production. Rubus fabrimontanus, R. kuleszae and R. praecox were the most vigorous species with reference to shoot growth. This study revealed that only some species were fully acclimated to the conditions of the Dendrological Garden, since they successfully completed their entire fl owering and fruiting cycles.

During the last 10 years (2005–2014) the population of Epipactis palustris within the former ecological use “Kopanina 1” was observed five times. In subsequent years, on the area of 4400 m2 at least 1000 to more than 4000 ramets were noted. The ramets in generative phase of development always predominated. It might indicate good condition of the population. The highest density per unit of area was observed in the first year of the study. The length of stems and number of leaves were the most constant features in orchid population. Then the width of the bract was characterized by the greatest values of the coefficient of variation. During the entire study period the number of ramets in population of E. palustris fluctuated, mainly resulting from the biology of the species, and only substantially from the impact of weather conditions. Negative impact of diverse human activities and excessive expansion of the other plant species, which resulted in the shading of the orchid sites, are the major threats to E. palustris existence in the described object.

Odrębną grupę stanowiły dwie odmiany oleiste i ozdobna. Ziarna pyłku były symetryczne, wielkości średniej, wydłużono-kuliste, z trzema bruzdami w płasz-czyźnie równikowej, o częściowo wykształconym daszku. Nie stwierdzono istotnych różnic w mikro-morfologii ziaren pyłku analizowanych 11 odmian.
The aim of this work was to investigate the variability of pollen morphology of four types of cultivars of common flax: oily, fibrous, intermediate and ornamental. In total, 11 cultivars were investigated. The biometry was performed for 30 pollen grains of each cultivar. Polar (P) and equatorial (E) axes were measured and on the basis of P/E ratio pollen shape was determined. Multivariate statistical analyses were carried out. The details of pollen morphology were studied with light and scanning electron microscopes. The largest pollen grains were found in oily cultivar. The smallest grains, with a high P/E ratio, were observed in fibrous types. Generally, the values of variation coefficients of analyzed traits were relatively low, whereas the lowest values were observed for oily cultivars and the largest ones – for fibrous and intermediate cultivars. Correlations based on cultivar averages were significantly different from zero for the length of the equatorial axis (E) and P/E ratio. In discriminant analysis, correlation between the measured characteristics and canonical variables showed that the first canonical variable was mostly of the correlated to the length of axis E and the second canonical variable to the relationship between both examined axes. The first canonical variable described reached up to 71.91% of the total variation, and the second variable – 20.43%. In total, the first two canonical variables explained 92.34% of the variation. Cluster analysis showed that the fibrous, oily and intermediate cultivars were similar. To each other to the largest extent. One factor analysis of variance the ANOVA (F-values) showed that the investigated traits differentiated all flax cultivars to a high degree. The length of the equatorial axis varied to the largest extent. All investigated pollen characters were significantly correlated with each other. The principal component analysis for 11 flax cultivars proved that PC1 explained 71.91% of the observed variability, whereas PC2 – 20.43%. Three major groups of grains were determined. Pollen grains were of large size, prolate-spheroidal in shape, with circular amb, trizonocolpate, semitectate, with LM gemmate sculpture visible, with SEM fossulate type of ornamentation. No significant differences were noted in pollen micromorphology among investigated flax cultivars.

Opis:
Pyrus ×myloslavensis is a hybrid with intermediate characteristics of leaves and fruits inherited from its parental species P. salicifolia and P. communis. The aim of this study was to determine whether these intermediate nature of this taxon would be visible in the pollen and seed anatomy and morphology. In addition, the authors evaluated self-compatibility and crossability based on the observation of pollen tube growth. The investigations were carried out using light, fluorescence and electron microscopies and flow cytometer. Based on pollen and seed morphology the current study confirmed a hybrid origin of the investigated taxon. Especially, pollen grains had most features similar to both parental species. In respect to epidermal micromorphology, the seeds of P. ×myloslaviensis were like P. salicifolia, but anatomical structure of the seed coat of the hybrid was more consistent with P. communis. The data obtained from the current experiment showed that P. ×myloslavensis was self-incompatible and cross-compatible only with one of four tested P. communis cultivars (‘Conference’) and with P. salicifolia. In turn, the average genome size of the hybrid was smaller than putative parents.
