Shale gas in the United States over the past decade, and interest has spread to potential gas shales in Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia. One analyst expects shale gas to supply as much as half the natural gas production in North America by 2020. Carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) is a set of technologies for the capture of CO2 from its anthropogenic point sources, its transport to a storage location, and its geosequestration. This is only one, though very important, option in a portfolio of actions to fight the increase of atmospheric CO2 concentration and to mitigate climate change, while at the same time allowing for the continued use of fossil fuels. Deployment of CCS technologies is expected to be limited in the next 5-10 years, but to contribute significantly to the reduction of CO2 emissions 20 years from now. Capture of CO2 using existing separation techniques can be applied to large point sources, i.e. power plants or industrial plants; CO2 can be easily transported over large distances using pipelines and ships; finally CO2 can be permanently stored in suitable deep geological formations, namely deep saline aquifers, oil or gas reservoirs, and unmineable coal seams, or it can be fixed in carbonates. The paper deals with the innovative method of carbon dioxide storage coupled with gas shale fracturing and methane recovery developed in the Military University of Technology. It allows to effectively mine the shale gas and to store carbon dioxide in shale rock. It must be noticed that CO2 pollution is a very important problem in Poland, because of European Union CO2 limits. Also carbon dioxide thermodynamic process of decompression numerical calculation, which simulates the injection of the cold liquid gas into the shale formation (high temperature and pressure conditions) and its influence on shale rock fracturing as well as initial experimental verification of the method was presented in the paper.

The problem of methane existence in coal beds has been known for many years. It was and still is a danger to coalminers. The aim of the research presented in the paper is to show and assess the porosity structure (especially micro and nanoporosity) in accordance to the dimensions of carbon dioxide particle. The characteristic surface morphology of the sample and the disclosure of carbon porous structure was obtain using the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The presented study of the coal microstructure is a part of the coal demethanation method with the use of liquid CO2, that was proposed by Military University of Technology. Based on the results of laboratory tests may be noted that the analyzed coal has a granular structure. It is also visible that that the structure is stratified, and there is a lot of cracks and free space between grains, which can accumulated methane in coal structure. The nanoporosity of the coal grains was observed during SEM study. The sizes and shapes of pores are miscellaneous. However the dimension of 62-300 nm allow to draw a conclusion, that the nanopores can contain a few particles of CH4 (4 A), which can be released by the CO2 particle (2.54 A). Finally, on the base of presented research it can be concluded that the method of coal demethanation with the use of CO2 can be economically and ecologically effective, and can increase the miners safety.

The results of experimental investigation of thermal expansion of [N(C$\text{}_{2}$H$\text{}_{5}$)$\text{}_{4}$]$\text{}_{2}$CuCl$\text{}_{4}$ crystals in a wide temperature range are presented. The anomaly of thermal deformation typical of first order phase transition at 258 K and additional continuous anomaly at 195 K were observed. It was shown that low temperature anomalies of physical properties of [N(C$\text{}_{2}$H$\text{}_{5}$)$\text{}_{4}$]$\text{}_{2}$CuCl$\text{}_{4}$ crystals can be described as overcritical trace of isomorphous phase transitions. Results of numerical analysis of phenomenological model of improper ferroelastic exhibiting isomorphous phase transitions are presented and compared with experimentally determined temperature dependencies of spontaneous deformation of [N(C$\text{}_{2}$H$\text{}_{5}$)$\text{}_{4}$]$\text{}_{2}$Cu Cl$\text{}_{4}$ crystals.

Opis:
The construction of exploitation wellbore is complex, it consists of several columns of pipelines which perform different tasks. It is very important to preclude flow of reservoir fluid between wellbore and ground. Tubing is a kind of a pipeline which is very important element of oil and gas wellbore construction. It allows to transport fracturing medium between wellbore station and underground deposit. Manufacture quality and correct mounting of tubing in the wellbore are the key for effective exploitation. However, during work those pipes are subjected to changeable loads which results in temperature value changes for example. That temperature variations can be caused by cold medium transport inside the pipe. In the paper, analyses of influence of temperature value changes on the tubing shrinkage were presented. Numerical analyses of section of pipe vertically located in the wellbore and loaded with changeable temperature were carried out. The calculations were made with the use of coupled structural and thermal analyses. Received results of tubing shrinkage for fragment of pipe were adapted to the column of pipes of 3000 m length. Results of numerical analyses were verified with the analytical calculations. Material of tubing was assumed as steel P110 which is often applied in the wellbore construction.

Opis:
Research on heat flow in granite sample and sample of aluminium foam with the use of a thermal imaging camera is presented in the paper. Temperature distribution on the surface of the sample as a function of time was obtained on the basis of data from the thermal imaging camera. Thermovision is one of the most universal technology, which is applied for detection of infrared radiation. This technique allows observing and record infrared radiation emitted by objects located in the surrounding environment. This technology allows obtaining, in a short time, temperature distribution on the surface of the sample. The thermograms (pictures showing on the surface of the object) are types of photos showing temperature distribution on the tested object surface which is achieved on the base of a specified range of electromagnetic radiation. Accurate measurement of the temperature distribution on the heated granite sample surface was obtained using a thermal imaging camera FLIR SC 6000. Thermal imaging camera was connected to the computer equipped with control software FLIR ResearchIR Max. Heat source was applied in the experiment as a cast iron hotplate with high efficiency heating, gradual control and 1500W power. Obtained results showed regular temperature distribution over the surface of researched sample.

Opis:
The possibility of using CO2 to fracturing a shale rock has been presented in the paper. The described innovative method which allows for the efficient extraction of shale gas and carbon dioxide storage in a shale rock was developed in Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science at the Military University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland. Firstly, the method was verified on the base of analytical and experimental research. In the next stage of the method verification carbon dioxide thermodynamic behavior was studied. The growth in pressure of drop of CO2 heated in a closed volume was numerically tested. The research confirmed the efficiency of the use of carbon dioxide as a medium for fracturing of rocks. The usage of liquid CO2 can be alternative for hydraulic fracturing and is safe for the environment.

Opis:
The aim of the presented work was to study the auxetic textiles covered with titanium silicide coating. The research was carried out to develop the material structure, which will be used for protective clothing, e.g. for firemen. The new material should be characterized by increased heat resistance coupled with protection against gas pressure impact caused e.g. by gas installation damage. In the paper, an assessment of the change in heat resistance properties of a Ti-Si coated auxetic textile loaded with gas pressure impulse was carried out.

The experimental plots used in the study were located in the middle forest zone (elevation: 900-950 m a.s.l.) on two nappes of the flysch Carpathians in southern Poland. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of serpentinite in combination with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers on selected chemical properties of the soil and activity of dehydrogenase and urease in the studied soils. All fertilizer treatments significantly enriched the tested soils in magnesium. The use of serpentinite as a fertilizer reduced the molar ratio of exchangeable calcium to magnesium, which facilitated the uptake of magnesium by tree roots due to competition between calcium and magnesium. After one year of fertilization on the Wisła experimental plot, the pH of the Ofh horizon increased, while the pH of the mineral horizons significantly decreased. Enrichment of serpentinite with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers stimulated the dehydrogenase activity in the studied organic horizon. The lack of a negative effect of the serpentinite fertilizer on enzyme activity in the spruce stand soil showed that the concentrations of the heavy metals added to the soil were not high enough to be toxic and indicated the feasibility of using this fertilizer in forestry.

The aim of the present research conducted in the Beskid Śląski was to search for an appropriate, alternative to classic way to regenerate the forest at high mountain altitudes. An attempt was made, therefore, at regeneration of these areas using the group method that imitates the natural formation of spruce biogroups in the forest. It was concluded that the choice of place for planting should entail the time of snow cover disappearance as well as the differentiation of microsites, kind of protection and plant cover. The assessment performed favours the biogroup method of setting up spruce cultures in higher mountain altitudes, especially in areas close to the mountain top.

In recent years, we face a massive dieback of Norway spruce stands in Poland. The cause of this process may lay in the way of their monocultural silviculture. The correct assessment of the habitat conditions and soil properties in particular is the basis of the proper management of these forest areas. The aim of this study was to verify application of the trophic soil index for mountain areas (SIGg) in the assessment of site conditions for spruce stands with different health condition. Three types of spruce stands were distinguished: degenerated, weakened and stable. In total, 32 study plots were established in following forest districts in southern Poland: Ustroń, Wisła, Bielsko, Węgierska Górka, Jeleśnia, Ujsoły and Lądek Zdrój. The SIGg was calculated on the basis of <0.02 mm fraction content, the sum of exchangeable base cations, soil acidity and the total content of N and organic C in the humus−mineral horizon. These attributes are useful to determine the potential productivity of the soils did not differentiate visibly the analyzed stand variants. The soil in degenerated and weakened spruce stands showed higher degree of acidity and less the content of base cations compared to soils of stable spruce stands. Mountain trophic soil index can be applied in the assessment of the forest sites potential. Although it does not enable to monitor the disturbances in the nutrients circulation, the detailed analysis of its components allows for precise assessment of the forest sites status.

The aim of the study was to apply the forest soil trophic index (ITGL) in the assessment of post−agricultural soil under naturally regenerated silver birch (Betula pendula Roth.) stands. The study was conducted in Mazowieckie region (central Poland) in 10 locations (tab. 1). In each location we established 4 study plots with naturally regenerated silver birch of different age. The age of the investigated stands ranged from 2 to 17 years. On each study plot samples from three upper soil horizons (0−5 cm, 5−15 cm and 15−50 cm) were collected for laboratory analysis. The following characteristics were determined in the soil samples: pH, organic carbon (C) and total nitrogen (N) content, particle size and the content of exchangeable base cations (Ca, Mg, Na and K). These soil characteristics were on used for ITGL calculation. Chemical properties of soils under silver birch regeneration varied with regard to trees age, whereas physical attributes turned to be rather stabile over the time (tab. 2). According to ITGL value investigated soils were classified as eutrophic. It is probably the effect of high base cations content, which is a result of systematic fertilization during the long term agricultural use. The insignificantly different ITGL values for the studied soils (tab. 3) indicated their similarity in terms of site productivity potential and soil−geological characteristics. The soil properties, especially the quality of soil organic matter described with C/N ratio, improved several years after the cessation of agricultural activity and spontaneous afforestation. The obtained results indicate that silver birch can be used in the stand composition on post−agricultural areas.
