Introduction. Structural glycans have great biological significance and are involved in signaling and cell communication of the immune system. They are attached to proteins and lipids in an enzymatic process called glycosylation where glycosyltransferase and glycosidases bind sugar residues and lead to the formation of bioconjugates. Aim. In this paper we describe the importance of glycosylation in the immune system and its changes in diseases. Material and methods. This review was performed according to systematic literature search of major bibliographic databases. Results. Proper glycosylation ensures the functioning of the organism, however, defects in structural glycans of immune system changes their properties and can lead to disorders and further to autoimmune diseases. It has been also proven that glycosylation of autoimmune system is changed during cancer. In this paper we described types of structural glycans, significance of glycosylation of selected components of the immune system and its modifications in disorders. Conclusions. Knowledge about changes in the glycosylation in diseases is the key to understanding the processes of autoimmune diseases and may allow the development of new treatments in the future.

Introduction and objective. Gluten proteins (gliadins and glutenins) are polymorphic wheat storage proteins of allergenic properties. Significant differences in chemical composition between both protein groups allow to expect highly specific immunological response of individual subunits and fractions in reactions with IgE sera of people allergic to wheat. The aim of these studies was to identify and characterize the most allergenic gluten proteins (GP) and nongluten proteins (NGP) occurred in two closely related wheat hybrid genotypes. Materials and method. 3xC and 3xN wheat hybrids, which differ strongly in regard of gliadin composition, were analyzed. Seven people manifesting different symptoms of wheat allergy donated sera for the experiment. The technique of immunoblotting after SDS-PAGE was used for identification of allergenic subunits and fractions among GP and NGP. Immunologically active protein bands were visualized by chemiluminescence. Results. Great variation of immunodetection spectra was observed. Results of immunoblotting showed LMW glutenins to be of highest, gliadins of medium, while NGP of lowest allergenicity for selected patients. The 43-kDa and 47-kDa LMW glutenin subunits, 40-kDa and 43-kDa γ-gliadin fractions and 49-kDa NGP can be considered as the most immunoreactive among all protein bands separated by SDS-PAGE. Conclusion. The observed differentiation of immunodetection spectra allows to model highly specific IgE-binding profiles of allergenic wheat proteins attributed to individual patients with symptoms of gluten intolerance. Highly immunoreactive subunits and fractions among GP and NGP were identified. The observed immunoreactivity of 49 kDa NGP is worth to emphasize, as it has never been reported as wheat allergenic protein before.

Electrochemotherapy is a local therapy method reserved for cases not subject to surgery in advanced surface-localized cancers in the integuments. It may be applied in treating primary skin neoplasms (cancer and melanoma) as well as metastases of other neoplasms to the skin/hypodermis not qualified for another therapy (e.g. local removal or isolated limb perfusion, radiotherapy), regardless of the histological type of the neoplasm. It is a palliative type of treatment, and its objective is to obtain local control over cancerous lesions deteriorating the quality of life of the patients (infections, hemorrhages, limb function limitation). In selected cases, it is possible to obtain a long-term local control (e.g. in advanced, unresectable or qualifying to an extensive procedure on scalp and neck neoplasms and breast cancers with extensive dermis infiltration, reacting poorly to systemic treatment). Especially local breast cancer recurrence, frequently of large area or multiple with tissue infiltration, persisting despite systemic treatment, may be subject to electrochemotherapy. It especially applies to patients with disseminated cancer. In the paper, the authors are summarizing their experience in the application of that method among patients with breast cancer.
Elektrochemioterapia jest metodą terapii miejscowej zarezerwowaną dla przypadków nieoperacyjnych w zaawansowanych nowotworach zlokalizowanych powierzchownie w powłokach ciała. Może być stosowana zarówno w leczeniu pierwotnych nowotworów skóry (raki i czerniaki), jak i przerzutów innych nowotworów do skóry/tkanki podskórnej niekwalifikujących się do innej terapii (np. miejscowego wycięcia lub izolowanej perfuzji kończynowej, radioterapii), niezależnie od typu histologicznego nowotworu. Jest to z założenia leczenie paliatywne, a jego celem jest uzyskanie miejscowej kontroli nad zmianami nowotworowymi pogarszającymi jakość życia chorych (zakażenia, krwawienia, ograniczenie funkcji kończyn). W wybranych przypadkach możliwe jest uzyskanie długotrwałej kontroli miejscowej (np. w zaawansowanych, nieresekcyjnych lub kwalifikujących się do rozległego zabiegu okaleczającego nowotworach skóry głowy i szyi oraz rakach piersi z rozległym naciekiem skóry, słabo reagujących na leczenie systemowe). Zwłaszcza wznowy miejscowe raka piersi, nierzadko o dużej powierzchni lub liczne z naciekiem tkanek, utrzymujące się pomimo leczenia systemowego, mogą być poddane elektrochemioterapii. Dotyczy to szczególnie chorych z rozsianą chorobą nowotworową. W niniejszej pracy autorzy podsumowują własne doświadczenie w zastosowaniu tej metody u chorych na raka piersi.

W opracowaniu ukazano rozwój i ewolucję systemów wspomagania zarządzania przedsiębiorstwem. Omówiono informatyczne systemy zarządzania, takie jak: systemy klasy IC (Inventory Control), MRP I (Material Requirements Planning), MRP II (Manufacturing Resource Planning) oraz ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning).

Do przygotowania nadawy, wapienia do granulacji bezciśnieniowej, przez bardzo drobne kruszenie, zastosowano laboratoryjną wibracyjną kruszarkę szczękową z kinematycznym wymuszeniem ruchu drgającego szczęk. Kruszarka ta charakteryzuje się wysokim średnim stopniem rozdrobnienia 30÷50. W procesie kruszenia wibracyjnego wytworzono nadawę do granulacji o zawartości klasy ziarnowej 0÷200 μm, w zakresie 46,2÷69,6%. Następnie przeprowadzono badania granulowania w rynnowym granulatorze wibracyjnym. Uzyskano bardzo dobre rezultaty granulowania materiału uzyskanego z kruszarki wibracyjnej. Oznacza to, że kruszarka wibracyjna o niższym od każdego ze znanych młynów jednostkowym poborze energii, może znaleźć zastosowanie do produkcji granulatów nawozów mineralnych.
Feed (limestone) for non-pressure granulation was prepared by very fine crushing in laboratory vibratory jaw crusher with kinematic actuation of crushers jaws. The crusher is characterized by high average degree of fragmentation (30÷50). Produced feed contain grain class 0÷200 microns in the range of 46.2%÷69.6%. Then, granulation tests were carried out in a vibrating chute granulator. Very good granulation results were observed for the material obtained from the vibrating crusher. This means that vibratory jaw crushers, which have lower energy consumption than any mills, can be used for production of granulated mineral fertilizers.

The main topics of the latest meeting of the Heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions of Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia were the following: cooperation between national Supreme Audit Institutions with the European Court of Auditors in the audit of issues related to EU matters, international accounting standards for the public sector, and the audit planning process. Other issues debated on included monitoring and analysis of fiscal processes and SAIs’ role in this regard, self-assessment of SAIs in the area of information technology application, a discussion within UN agencies on the strengthening of independence and institutional capacity building of SAIs in the process of the improvement of public accounting systems.

The paper presents the results of a study investigating a mechanical impact, in the form of vibrations, on the overall quality of raspberry fruits after harvest, in view of the conditions of their transport to the consumer and the processing plant. The degree of compaction of the raspberry fruit layer was determined during a test carried out under laboratory conditions, and the amount of juice leakage, resulting from the vibrations to which the raspberries were subjected, was measured. It was demonstrated that the quantity (mass) of juice leakage was considerably affected by the mechanical impact, in the form of vibrations, exerted on a layer of raspberry fruits. The leakage was smaller in cooled fruits, and significantly greater in fruits that were not subjected to cooling immediately after harvest, and were stored under ambient conditions.

The Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation – the host of the XXIII INTOSAI Congress to be organised in Moscow in September 2019 – is leading the works on one of the two Congress themes, namely: The role of the Supreme Audit Institutions in the achievement of the national priorities and goals. The representatives of the Accounts Chamber have developed the draft of the principal paper to be presented at the Congress. Within the consultation process on the draft principal paper, in May 2018 in Petersburg a meeting was held of the Heads and other representatives of 19 Supreme Audit Institutions. The delegates of the Supreme Audit Office of Poland voiced their doubts whether the introduction of “strategic audit”, which is a new notion, was really appropriate and justified.

Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) strive to address important and topical concerns which attract media coverage and are of interest to the Parliament and citizens. Since 2013, the National Audit Office of the United Kingdom (NAO) has been carrying out ‘Investigations’. These are not investigations as defined in criminal law but rapid and responsive ‘engagements’ with data gathered and presented quickly. The topics of such investigations are specific, so that they can be developed fast (usually within three–four months) and described briefly (reports should not exceed 5,000 words). Investigations usually address issues that give rise to social concerns that things might not work properly, so their main addressees are not state bodies, but citizens, too. Unlike in financial and performance audit, investigations are facts only (without evaluations or recommendations), however they are written in a way that allows the readers to draw their own conclusions. In this article, the author discusses changes impacting on the NAO and its work supporting the House of Commons, and presents the concept and practice behind these. The role of such investigations is viewed in the context of other NAO activities, the topics covered and procedures adopted.

During the IX World Congress of the International Association of Constitutional Law (Oslo, June 2014), the workshop was organised entitled “Constitutions and Financial Crisis”. The purpose of the discussion was to critically analyse responses to fiscal crises with a view to better understanding the phenomenon, the options for dealing with it and its implications for the basic principles of democracy. It was observed that the overall effect of a fiscal crisis and the responses to it may have profound constitutional significance for the constitutional system of the state authorities, as well as for individual state institutions, supranational and international institutions. A representative of the Polish SAI presented the paper entitled “Constitutional mechanisms that may serve establishing a fiscal policy and settling its execution”.
