Opis:
This paper proposes a model to allocate photovoltaic unit (PVU) and distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) that incorporate the operation effect of PVU in sizing and sitting problem. The model is based on the dynamic assessment of PVU production and the effect of it on placement of PVU and DSTATCOM. Geographical conditions are interfered in placement problem of PVU and DSTATCOM simultaneously. The model is verified in a multi-objective form. The multi-objective problem is formulated based on voltage stability, liability, power loss and total cost of PVU and DSTATCOM. This problem is solved by employing optimization techniques and the results of optimization processes are tested in different scenarios. Uncertainty in network loads is an inevitable task that should be considered in network planning. Uncertainty in the presented model has been defined as a set of divided parts in the presented model. The proposed model has been evaluated on two test systems, 30 bus and 69 bus. The obtained results indicate that the presented model can be employed to study the intermittent behavior of PVU in placement problem.

Seminal plasma (SP) proteins are responsible for sperm functional quality. Developing a reliable method to determine the degree of oxidative damage of these proteins is important for establishing semen fertilizing ability. The main aim of the study was to verify the applicability of protein carbonyl derivatives measurement in the SP of canine and stallion, using a method with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH). The research material consisted of ejaculates obtained from eight English Springer Spaniels, and from seven half-blood stallions during the breeding and non-breeding season. The content of carbonyl groups in the SP was measured on the basis of the reactions with DNPH. The following reagent variants were used to dissolve protein precipitates: Variant 1 (V1) – 6M Guanidine solution and Variant 2 (V2) – 0.1M NaOH solution. It has been shown that to obtain reliable results for the measurement of protein carbonylated groups in the dog and horse SP, both 6M Guanidine and 0.1M NaOH may be used. A correlation was also found between the number of carbonyl groups and the total protein content in the canine (V1: r = -0.724; V2: r = -0.847) and stallion (V1: r = -0.336; V2: r = -0.334) SP. Additionally, the study showed a higher content (p≤0.05) of protein carbonyl groups in the stallion SP in the non-breeding season compared to the breeding season. The method based on the reaction with DNPH, due to its simplicity and cost effectiveness, appears to be suitable for large-scale application in the determination of the SP proteins oxidative damage in dog and horse semen.

A recent study revealed that the amount of rainfall on the Kapuas River has increased over the last 30 years. The increase in rainfall increases the possibility of high discharge events, which might lead to destructive flooding of the Kapuas River and its tributaries. Hence, the ability to characterise the pattern of high discharge events is compulsory for the development and management of the Kapuas River watershed. The main objective of this study was to assess and characterise flood patterns in the Kapuas River watershed. To achieve this objective, we utilised information and complexity measures that consisted of mean information gain (MIG), effective measure complexity (EMC) and fluctuation complexity (FC) in daily water level records from 2002 to 2011 from a gauging station in Sanggau, West Kalimantan Province. The results revealed that flood events in the Kapuas River were mainly generated by the Indo-Australian monsoon, which occurred from December to March. The anomaly in 2010, when intense flood events were observed during the dry season, can be identified as the effect of a strong negative El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Additionally, the analysis of the information and complexity measures indicates that: (i) EMC, which reflects the length of flood events, tends to increase along with greater discharge, and (ii) MIG and FC, which denote the degree of randomness and fluctuation of flood events, respectively, tended to have higher values when the number of months without high discharge was less.

Design/methodology/approach Ultrasonic atomization (UA) with melting raw material by an electric arc. Characterisation of the powders: particle size distribution (PSD), density, and flowability were carried out. Other parameters, such as microstructure, deviation in the chemical composition and powder surface morphology, were also investigated. Findings The results showed that the UA powder has a finer average particle size with a narrower statistical distribution of particles than those made by the GA method. Because the UA powder has a higher sphericity and lower porosity, Generally, UA offers better-quality powders in terms of properties such as higher tap density, better flowability and low oxygen content. Research limitations/implications As an example of semi-industrial scale application of the UA system, the Ti6Al4V and TiAl powders were produced after remelting the wire. The UA system is commercially available for processing any metallic material. Practical implications The test campaign results showed that the Ti6Al4V powder produced by the ultrasonic atomisation has a similar or better quality as those available from large-scale gas atomisation plants. Originality/value The new method of UA powder production was analysed in terms of key powder parameters. The properties of the titanium-based powder produced this way were analysed with a view to future applications.

Results of long-term exposure tests (20 months) of 17G1C and 13G1C-U pipeline steel samples in NS1-NS3 model environments (soil electrolyte imitations) are presented in the article. It was established that during the exposure of steel samples in the studied model environments the rate of corrosion processes depends on the component composition of the model environments, the grade of steel and pH. Regardless of the grade of steel, the highest corrosion rate was observed for the NS1 environment, while the corrosion rate for the NS3 environment was almost 21% lower. In the case of the NS2 model environment, the corrosion rate reduction for 17G1C steel was 38.68%, and for 13G1C-U steel – 28.75%, compared to the exposure of these samples in the NS1 environment. The calculated multiple coefficients of determination and linear correlation coefficients indicate a strong relationship between these indicators. The phase composition and structure of corrosion products were determined by the X-ray diffractometer Shimadzu XRD‑7000 using the method of X-ray structural analysis. On the basis of the obtained radiographs, the dominant form of iron oxide, which does not depend on the grade of steel, was determined for each environment. The research results have practical value and can be used in predicting the behavior of underground structures in soils of different corrosive activity.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań długotrwałej ekspozycji (20 miesięcy) próbek stali rurociągowych 17G1C i 13G1C-U w środowiskach modelowych NS1-NS3 (imitacje elektrolitów glebowych). Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że szybkość procesów korozyjnych zależy od zawartości poszczególnych składników w środowiskach modelowych, jak również od gatunku stali oraz od wielkości pH. Niezależnie od gatunku stali największą szybkość korozji zaobserwowano dla środowiska NS1, podczas gdy szybkość korozji dla środowiska NS3 była niższa o prawie 21%. W przypadku środowiska modelowego NS2 zmniejszenie szybkości korozji dla stali 17G1C wyniosło 38,68%, a dla stali 13G1C-U – 28,75%, w porównaniu do ekspozycji tych próbek w środowisku NS1. Obliczone wielokrotne współczynniki determinacji oraz współczynniki korelacji liniowej wskazują na silny związek między tymi wskaźnikami. Skład fazowy i strukturę produktów korozji określono za pomocą dyfraktometru rentgenowskiego Shimadzu XRD-7000, stosując metodę rentgenowskiej analizy strukturalnej. Na podstawie uzyskanych radiogramów dla każdego ośrodka określono dominującą formę tlenku żelaza, niezależną od gatunku stali. Wyniki badań mają wartość praktyczną i mogą być wykorzystane do przewidywania zachowania się podziemnych konstrukcji stalowych w gruntach o różnej aktywności korozyjnej.

Opis:
Growth of demand for containerized cargo shipping has put more ports into pressure to accommodate larger vessels. Considering the limitations on dimensions of navigation channels, this is not feasible unless aiming for significant capital dredging or alternatively creating high precision predictions of vessel motions subjected to environmental forcing and interaction with shallow and restricted waterway. NCOS ONLINE (Nonlinear Channel Optimisation Simulator) is a state of the art navigation support tool which combines DHI’s high level forecast of environmental conditions with mathematical model of ship motions to add an extra level of accuracy in predicting the under-keel clearance and vessel swept path to boost the efficiency of navigation and pilotage within restricted channels. NCOS Manoeuvring Module utilizes an autopilot scheme based on PID (Proportional / Integral / Derivative) controller and Line of Sight Algorithm to FORCE Technology’s SimFlex4 manoeuvring solver for prediction of manoeuvring ship swept path and response, which will effectively bring the accuracy of real time full bridge simulator to fast time operation support tool. In this paper, the result of mathematical model is validated against fullscale measurements of containership transits through Port of Auckland Navigation channel by comparing pilot commands, leeway drift and swept path through output of portable pilotage unit. According to the results the model is found promising to predict the behaviour of human pilots with precision required in operational use. Finally, the swept path and manoeuvring performance of a sample transit is assessed on different environmental conditions and tide stages to evaluate the safe transit windows in operation.

The ship's master has a number of duties in relation to the ship, the cargo and the shipowner's liability. His duties in the event of a marine accident are particularly important since all marine accidents occur as a type of insured loss. In addition to a number of general duties, some of the master's special duties are informing the classification society about the accident, damage report, cooperation with the insurer's expert and informing the P&I club about the accident. The content of the master's duties is the subject of analysis of this paper. Therefore, the goal of the paper is to analyse the content of the master's duties in the event of an accident that could result in damage, i.e. the occurrence of the insured event. The purpose of this analysis is to point out the important role of the master in the subject of maritime insurance.

Research background: The effects of locating next to other establishments of equivalent activity is a decision with serious and far-reaching implications, not only from the point of view of location decisions but also with regard to competitive strategy, pricing, or promotion decisions. The literature provides evidence of the negative effects of being proximate to competitors (erosion of market share), but there are also benefits associated with the increased attraction of demand (attraction effect). This phenomenon is of particular interest in the case of hospitality, where hotel concentrations can be found around certain tourism resources, and is a crucial factor in hoteliers' decisions as they evaluate these contradictory effects. Purpose of the article: Drawing from the relevance that the confrontation between agglomeration and competition has in the hotel industry, our study aims to examine if this confrontation can be driven by geographical location and how both vertical and horizontal differentiation factors can unbalance it. Methods: Based on the use of geographical information systems and the estimation of a geographically weighted regression model with a wide dataset that includes 3,153 European hotels located in Spain, France and the United Kingdom. Findings & value added: We extend agglomeration and competition theoretical bodies related to location decisions by providing new findings about their simultaneous effect. Specifically, this study contributes to filling the gap regarding their combined effects on pricing and the conditions under which one prevails over the other. Results show that the role of geographical location and a hotel's online reputation are more decisive differentiation factors than hotel category when explaining the asymmetry of the effects of agglomeration and competition.
