Opis:
OmpF plays very important roles in the influx of antibiotics and bacterial survival in the presence of antibiotics. However, high-grade mutant OmpF and its function in decreasing bacterial survival rate have not been reported to date. In the present study, we cloned a high-grade mutant OmpF (mOmpF) and sequence analysis suggested that over 45 percent of the DNA sequence was significantly mutated, leading to dramatic changes in over 55 percent of the amino acid sequence. mOmpF protein was successfully expressed. When grown in the presence of antibiotic, the bacterial survival rate decreased and the antibiotic inhibition zone became larger with the increase of the mOmpF. It was concluded that concentration of high-grade mutant mOmpF dramatically influenced the bacterial survival rate. The study presented here may provide insights into better understanding of the relationships between structure and function of OmpF.

Opis:
Slow positron annihilation spectroscopy, contact angle and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were employed to investigate the surface polarity and morphologies as functions of aging time in acrylic coatings during UV-a irradiation. The S parameter plots of each exposed sample are lower than that of the virgin sample in the whole range of E. The S parameter plots become lower as the exposing longer time, indicated that the irradiation generated more polar groups and increased the oxidation layer depth. Combined with surface morphology and the surface energy of acrylic coating, the variation of contact angle, and surface energy, polar component and dispersive component is related with surface polarity and morphologies.

Opis:
Collaborative learning in online contexts is emotionally challenging for language learners. To achieve successful learning outcomes, language learners need to regulate their emotions and sustain positive emotions during the collaborative learning process. This study investigated language learners’ emotion regulation and enjoyment, the most extensively researched positive emotion in foreign language learning, in an online collaborative English learning environment. In the study, we collected data by surveying 336 Chinese students majoring in English who collaboratively completed a series of English language writing tasks in 108 online groups facilitated by a social media app (WeChat). Principal component analysis revealed two primary types of emotion regulation: peer regulation and group regulation. The analysis also revealed one factor underpinning enjoyment: enjoyment of online collaboration. Correlation analysis showed medium and positive relationships between peer regulation, group regulation, and enjoyment of online collaboration. Structural equation modeling analysis further found that group regulation exerted a medium-sized direct effect on enjoyment of online collaboration. Peer regulation affected enjoyment of online collaboration moderately and indirectly via group regulation. The theoretical and pedagogical implications of the findings can help to optimize face-to-face and online collaborative language learning activities.

Opis:
With the rapid development of the polymer materials industry and the improvement of people's environmental awareness, magnesium hydroxide has been widely used in polymer materials due to its high decomposition temperature, non-toxic smoke suppression, and the advantages of neutralizing harmful gases produced by polymer combustion. However, the conventional preparation methods of magnesium hydroxide exhibit several issues, including high hydrophilicity, elevated polarity, and limited compatibility with polymers. This research proposes an improved method by adding sodium stearate and KH560 modifier, controlling the rate of magnesium oxide and preparing magnesium hydroxide flame retardants using a modifier-directed hydration method. Various characterizations confirmed its morphology, particle size and structure. The magnesium hydroxide exhibits low polarity, small particle size, stable structure and excellent hydrophobicity (with a contact angle of 120.32°, and a free energy of 1.34mN/m). In parallel, the magnesium hydroxide/polypropylene composites demonstrate excellent flame retardancy (LOI of 25%, V-1 grade) and simultaneously enhance the dispersion of magnesium hydroxide within the polypropylene matrix, improving the material's toughness and strength.

Opis:
Dysregulated lipid metabolism in liver is an important hallmark of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which may be modulated by dietary polyphenols or microRNAs (miRNAs). However, the underlying epigenetic regulatory mechanism of polyphenols remain unclear. The current study aimed to address how miRNA mediates hepatic lipid metabolic control of curcumin, a polyphenolic food supplement. The results showed that 24 h treatment with 5 - 20 μM curcumin prevented free fatty acid-induced lipid accumulation by around 10 ~ 50% in HepG2 cells, which was attenuated by pre-transfection with 40 nM miR-22-3p mimic for 48 h. In consequence, transfection with 40 nM miR-22-3p inhibitor for 48 h significantly reduced lipid accumulation by around 10%. And 48 h overexpression of miR-22-3p targeting cardiolipin synthase 1 (CRLS1) gene, which encodes a mitochondrial phospholipid synthase, showed a similar regulatory effect. Thus, miR-22-3p and CRLS1 showed opposite effects in modulating lipid metabolism, which probably involved mitochondrial control. In summary, this study demonstrated that curcumin improved hepatic lipid metabolism via targeting the miR-22-3p/CRLS1 pathway. Identification of the epigenetic regulatory mechanism underlying lipid metabolism may thereby facilitate alleviation of metabolic disorders by natural polyphenols.

Opis:
The electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide into valued chemicals such as formic acid has the most promising potential in applying renewable energy for useful materials and mitigating the greenhouse effect. However, the studies still focus on developing catalysts with low price and high catalytic properties. In this study, nitrogen atoms were decorated into carbon structure by a unique ultrasonic method, then the nitrogen-doped carbon material was applied as catalyst in CO2 reduction, it exhibited excellent electrochemical activity, 4 times higher than the normal method. The improved activity should be attributed to the interaction between nitrogen and carbon atoms through analysis.

Opis:
Graphite nitrogen, pyridine nitrogen and pyrrole nitrogen are the main nitrogen types in nitrogen-doped graphene materials. In order to investigate the mechanism of the oxygen reduction activity of nitrogen-doped graphene, several models of nitrogen-doped graphene with different nitrogen contents and different nitrogen types are developed. The nitrogen content is varied from 1.3 at% to 7.8 at%, and the adsorption energy is calculated according to the established models, then the band gaps are analyzed through the optimization results, so as to compare the mag-nitude of the conductivity. Finally, the oxygen reduction activity of graphite nitrogen-doped graphene (GNG) is found to be better than pyridine nitrogen-doped graphene (PDNG) and pyrrole nitrogen-doped graphene (PLNG) when the nitrogen content is lower than 2.6 at%, and the oxygen reduction activity of PDNG is the best when the nitrogen content was higher than 2.6 at%.
