Opis:: The article describes an implementation of wireless sensor network (WSN) based on the IEEE 802.15.4-2006 standard, which was designed to monitor environmental conditions (e.g. temperature, humidity, light intensity, etc.) on a given area. To carry out this task, a self-organization algorithm called KNeighbors was selected. It exhibits low computational complexity and is satisfactory with respect to energy consumption. Additionally, the authors proposed a novel routing algorithm and some modifications to the MAC layer of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The article discusses the selected algorithms and procedures that were implemented in the network.

Opis:: The following paper discusses several aspects connected with the wind farms’ impact on radiocommunication systems. The first part of this article is filled with the analysis of the ITU-R BT.1893 model, which was originally created for the analysis of the interaction between the wind turbines and digital TV receivers in the UHF band. A measurement campaign carried out by the authors confirmed that this model is also applicable for the lower, maritime VHF band. Utilizing the software implementation of this model, the authors conducted a thorough simulation analysis of the wind turbines’ influence on radio systems working in both VHF and UHF bands. The results of these simulations are presented and discussed in the second part of the paper.

Opis:: The design of a novel CMOS operational amplifier with two differential input stages is described. Prototype circuits have been fabricated and measured successfully. By using a nested Miller compensation the stability of the operational amplifier is ensured. The layout has been created automatically by using the ALADIN tool [6-9]. The small signal model for the amplifier is depicted and the test results are presented.

Opis:: The study objective was to determine plasma concentration of pyrimethamine in 24 infants aged 1–5 months, treated for congenital toxoplasmosis. Pyrimethamine was used in a single daily dose at an amount of 0.35–0.98 mg/kg daily, with sulfadiazine (50–100 mg/kg/day) in divided doses 2–3 times a day, and folinic acid given twice a week (7.5 mg). This regimen was continued for 2–6 months, then Fansidar® was administered. Pyrimethamine concentration in plasma was measured using high-performance liquid chromatography method (HPLC). A total of 70 tests were performed. Concentration of pyrimethamine ranged from 0.01 to 1.2 μg/ml. In 14 children (58 tests) the concentration of pyrimethamine achieved therapeutic value. In 7 patients (8 tests) the concentration was below therapeutic level, and in 3 patients (4 tests) above therapeutic level. In 11/24 (46%) children transient moderate neutropenia was observed. Modification of therapy was necessary in 12 patients. Monitoring of pyrimethamine concentration in plasma improves safety and effectiveness of the therapy and is useful in obtaining correct individual dose of the drug. Neutropenia is the most common side-effect of pyrimethamine observed even when using the recommended dose.

Opis:: Little is known about congenital toxoplasmosis in twins. As in singletons fetal infection occurs usually in mothers seroconverted during second or third trimester of pregnancy. Infection affects usually both siblings, but there is posible that one child is not infected, especially in dizygotic pregnancies. A distinct difference in clinical patterns between dizygotic and monozygotic twins is observed. In monozygotic pairs most often clinical course is similar, while in dizygotic twins discrepancies in clinical findings are frequent and marked. For almost thirty years of our own experience with congenital toxoplasmosis we observed only four pairs of twins with this intrauterine infection. All of them were dizygotic. In two pairs the clinical course was similar, and different in the other two.
