The Shaximiao Formation (Sichuan Basin, China), and the corresponding Chuanjie Formation of the neighboring Yunnan Basin (Sichuan-Yunnan Basin), representing continental Mesozoic strata, are distinguished from other Chinese Mesozoic units because of the large area over which they are distributed, their lithological characteristics and their abundant vertebrate fossils. This paper analyses and summarizes the dinosaur fossils from the Shaximiao Formation and compares them to other vertebrate groups of the same or similar ages, both in China and abroad. For the first time, this paper presents the viewpoint that the upper member of the Shaximiao Formation is of Middle Jurassic age (Bathonian–Callovian). Furthermore, we claim that the entire Shaximiao Formation is of Bajocian–Callovian age (middle-late part of Middle Jurassic). This conclusion is supported by the age inferred from invertebrate fossils and radiometric dating (165–178 Ma). The composition, evolution and geological age of the vertebrate fauna (particularly dinosaur fossils), as well as their comparison to the dinosaur fauna from the other parts of the Sichuan-Yunnan Basin (Chuanjie Fm.) is discussed. Middle Jurassic dinosaur assemblages from China show marked differences compared with other dinosaur assemblages in the world, and this is explained by geographical isolation.

Solid particles on the floor, both dry and wet, are common but their effects on the friction on the floor were seldom discussed in the literature. In this study, friction measurements were conducted to test the effects of particle size of solid contaminants on the friction coefficient on the floor under footwear, floor, and surface conditions. The results supported the hypothesis that particle size of solids affected the friction coefficient and the effects depended on footwear, floor, and surface conditions. On dry surfaces, solid particles resulted in friction loss when the Neolite footwear pad was used. On the other hand, solid particles provided additional friction when measured with the ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) footwear pad. On wet surfaces, introducing solid particles made the floors more slip-resistant and such effects depended on particle size. This study provides information for better understanding of the mechanism of slipping when solid contaminants are present.

This paper describes the design and test of a new high-current electronic current transformer based on a Rogowski coil. For better performances, electronic current transformers are used to replace conventional electro-magnetic inductive current transformers based on ferromagnetic cores and windings to measure high-current on the high voltage distribution grids. The design of a new high-current electronic current transformer is described in this paper. The principal schemes of the prototype and partial evaluation results are presented. Through relative tests it is known that the prototype has a wide dynamic range and frequency band, and it can allow high accuracy measurements.

The whole precipitation sequences of two as-cast Al-Mg-Si 6005 alloys (containing no Cu or 0.1 wt.% Cu) at 150 degree Celsjus were investigated using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and hardness examinations. The precipitation sequence of the Cu-free alloy can be expressed as: super-saturated solid solution (SSSS) → spherical G.P. zones → pre - β'' → β'' → U2 +Si + β x → Si + β β xwhile that of the Cu-containing alloy can be expressed as: SSSS → spherical G.P. zones + platelet-like G.P. zones → pre - β → β'' → Q' + β + Si → Q + β + Si. A new type of βprecipitate, namely β x here, has been discovered in the Cu-free alloy. The addition of minor Cu is found to accelerate the microstructural evolution by inducing the formation of a new type of platelet-like G.P. zone along {111} Al planes, and improve the hardening response at the over-aged stage by forming Q' and Q precipitates.
Kompletna sekwencja wydzieleń dwóch odlanych stopów Al-Mg-Si 6005 (zawierąjacych 0 i 0.1%.wag Cu), w temperaturze 150 stopni Celsjusza, została zbadana przy użyciu dyfrakcji rentgenowskiej, transmisyjnej mikroskopii elektronowej i badań twardości. Sekwencja wydzieleń w stopie nie zawierającym Cu może być przedstawiona następująco: przesycony roztwór stały → sferyczne strefy Guiniera-Prestona → pre - β'' → β'' → U2 +Si + β x → Si + β β x natomiast dla stopu zawierającego Cu następująco: przesycony roztwór stały → sferyczne i płytkowe strefy Guiniera-Prestona → pre - β → β'' → Q' + β + Si → Q + β + Si. Nowy rodzaj wydzieleń β, tj. β x , został odkryty w stopie niezawierajacym Cu. Stwierdzono, że dodatek niewielkiej ilości Cu przyspiesza zmiany mikrostruktury poprzez indukowanie tworzenia nowego typu płytkowych stref Guiniera-Prestona wzdłuż płaszczyzny {111}Al. i poprawia utwardzenie poprzez tworzenie wydzieleń Q' i Q.

In this paper, a new focusing evaluation method based on local 2/8 center windows is proposed for an autofocusing system. We have proposed an evaluation function which improved the Roberts function with eight-neighborhood or four-neighborhood. The approximate optimal criteria window is selected by a 2/8 rule. Comparative experiments implemented with other methods have shown that the 2/8 rule method not only can find the approximate optimal evaluation window quickly, but also has better generality. This evaluation function of improved Roberts’ function has higher sensitivity and better real-time performance.

Electronic voltage transformers (EVT) and electronic current transformers (ECT) are important instruments in a digital substation. For simple, rapid and convenient development, the paper proposed an on-site calibration system for electronic instrument transformers based on LabVIEW. In the system, analog signal sampling precision and dynamic range are guaranteed by the Agilent 3458A digital multimeter, and data synchronization is also achieved based on a self-developed PCI synchronization card. To improve the measurement accuracy, an error correction algorithm based on the Hanning window interpolation FFT has good suppression of frequency fluctuation and inter-harmonics interference. The human-computer interface and analysis algorithm are designed based on LabVIEW, and the adaptive communication technology is designed based on IEC61850 9-1/2. The calibration system can take into account pairs of digital output and analog output of the electronic voltage/current transformer calibration. The results of system tests show that the calibration system can meet the requirements of 0.2 class calibration accuracy, and the actual type test and on-site calibration also show that the system is easy to operate with convenience and satisfactory stability.

Metal-working fluids (MWFs) are used in machining and grinding operations to cool the tool and work, reduce the friction between the tool and work, improve the surface integrity of the work piece, and increase tool life and productivity. Health problems have been reported among workers exposed to MWFs, including incidences of respiratory, digestive and skin cancers, and increased rates of cough and phlegm. This paper reviews and discusses issues concerning health risks from exposure to MWFs in machining and grinding operations, the various factors that influence the degree of exposure, and control methods to reduce exposure to metal-working fluids.

In this paper, a new type of interior composite-rotor bearingless permanent magnet synchronous motors (BPMSMs) with two layer permanent magnets (PMs) is proposed. In order to reduce the torque ripple of this kind of motors, the sizes of PMs are optimized. Moreover, the magnetic field analysis of the interior composite-rotor BPMSM with two layer PMs is carried out by the finite element method (FEM). The corresponding static electronic magnetic characteristics at no load, including magnetic field, PM flux linkage and inductance, are studied in detail. In addition, electromagnetic torque characteristics and suspension force characteristics are also investigated thoroughly. The results of the analysis and simulation lay a significant foundation for further research on the interior composite-rotor BPMSMs with two layer PMs.

In the vertical spindle pulverizer (VSP), the large circulation ratio and high ash and sulfur contents in circulating load would result in intensive energy consumption and low grinding efficiency. Although the control of circulating load would help increase the energy efficiency, no quantitative study has been conducted due to the high temperature and pressure in the closed VSP. In this study, response of energy-size reduction to the control of circulating load was studied by the experimental simulation method. Coal mixtures with fine/coarse ratio of 11:1, 8:1 and 6:1 were ground by a lab-scale roller mill. Energy-size reductions of the coarse coal were compared to evaluate the influence of circulating load control. Results showed that the product with the coarse coal increased by 30% when the specific breakage energy was 1.0 kWht–1 as the circulation ratio decreased from 11 to 6. Meanwhile, a breakage characteristic index of the coarse coal was two times higher due to the cushioning effect of fines. Besides, decrease of circulation ratio led to increase of the breakage rate of coarse coal, and the energy saving improved by 57%. With the same energy input of 2.0 kWht-1, the yield of –0.09 mm pulverized fuel (PF) increased from 22 to 43%. Therefore, controlling the circulating load is an effective method to improve the breakage rate of coarse coal and energy efficiency for PF generation.

This study investigates a digital control system which is used in bearingless permanent magnet synchronous motors (BPMSMs). Compared with traditional permanent magnet synchronous motors, a BPMSM is characterized by higher speed and no mechanic friction. Therefore, the application value of the latter to the special area is higher than that of the former. An analysis from previous work on the BPMSM had proved its feasibility, and some performances such as suspension force, inductance and so on were also investigated. Based on this analysis, this study focuses on solving control problems in practical applications by designing a control system. The control system design includes overall schematic, hardware and software designs. Main software systems, including the force/current transform module and closed loop control module for radial displacement, are analyzed. Interface circuit for radial displacement, current feedback circuit and dead zone protection circuit are designed for the hardware system. Finally, several performance experiments have been conducted to verify the effectiveness of the designed digital control system. Experiment results indicate that the rotor has unique characteristics, such as stable suspension performance, good start-of-suspension performance, and rapid anti-disturbance features.

A novel polynitro compound, 2,2’-bis(trinitromethyl)-5,5’-azo- 1,2,3,4-tetrazole, was designed and investigated at the DFT-B3LYP/6-31G(d) level. Its properties, such as electronic structure, IR spectrum, heat of formation, thermodynamic properties and crystal structure, were predicted. This compound is most likely to crystallize in the P21 space group, and the corresponding cell parameters are Z = 2, a = 5.46 Å, b = 9.72 Å, c = 14.05 Å, α = 90°, β = 90°, γ = 90°. In addition, the detonation velocity and pressure were also estimated by using the empirical Kamlet-Jacobs equations, and were predicted to be 8.28 km/s and 31.61 GPa respectively. The oxygen balance of this compound is +13.79%, which indicates that it could serve as an oxidizer. Bond dissociation energy calculations show that the C(13)-N(21)O2 and C(14)-N(30)O2 bonds are the locations of thermal decomposition and that this compounds meets the thermal stability requirements as an exploitable explosive. To test whether the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) region is an effective marker for using in authenticating of the Schisandra chinensis at the species and population levels, separately. And the results showed that the wild populations had higher percentage of individuals that had substitution of C→A at site 86-bp than the cultivated populations. At sites 10-bp, 37-bp, 42-bp and 235-bp, these bases of the Schisandra sphenanthera samples differed from that of S. chinensis. Two species showed higher levels of inter-specific divergence than intra-specific divergence within ITS2 sequences. However, 24 populations did not demonstrate much difference as inter-specific and intra-specific divergences were concerned. Both S. chinensis and S. sphenanthera showed monophyly at species level, yet the samples of different populations shown polyphyly at population level. ITS2 performed well when using BLAST1 method. ITS2 obtained 100% identification success rates at the species level for S. chinensis, with no ambiguous identification at the genus level for ITS2 alone. The ITS2 region could be used to identify S. chinensis and S. sphenanthera in the “Chinese Pharmacopoeia”. And it could also correctly distinguish 100% of species and 100% of genera from the 193 sequences of S. chinensis. Hence, the ITS2 is a powerful and efficient tool for species identification of S. chinensis.

Crystalline La$\text{}_{x}$Sr$\text{}_{1-x}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ was prepared by a hydrothermal route in the presence of surfactant. The cationic surfactant of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as a template is used to regulate the nucleation and crystal growth. The as-synthesized product was characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Nanosized and uniform rod-like monocrystals of La$\text{}_{x}$Sr$\text{}_{1-x}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ were obtained. Their magnetic properties were studied using a vibrating sample magnetometer. Our results reveal that the use of surfactant helps to lower the processing temperature and to speed up the formation and crystallization of La$\text{}_{x}$Sr$\text{}_{1-x}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$. The surfactant also provides us an additional means of controlling the nanocrystalline size and maintaining the stoichiometry of the as-prepared nanocrystallites.

A novel bio-based flame-retardant thermosetting vinyl ester resin monomer was synthesized from castor oil. The chemical structures of the monomer was characterized by FTIR and 1H-NMR. In order to improve its rigidity and expand its application in the field of bio-based materials, it was mixed with certain proportions of another reactive bio-based VER monomer, which had rigid and strong polar groups, and then a series of copolymers were prepared with thermal curing method. Then their tensile property, hardness, morphology of fractured surface, flame retardant property, DMA and thermostability were all investigated. The results indicated that the copolymers had relatively high tensile strength of 11.2 MPa, and the limiting oxygen index is above 23% in all prepared copolymers. DMA demonstrates that the glass transition temperature of the cured resins is up to 56.1°C. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the copolymers have excellent thermal stability.

In this study, a novel manufacturing technique for three-dimensional integrated sandwich fabric with an ‘8’-shaped inside layer structure was developed. Furthermore a new integrated sandwich fabric with an ‘88’-shaped inside layer structure was designed in comparison with the ‘8’-shaped inside layer structure. The flatwise compression characteristics of the three-dimensional integrated sandwich fabric composites with different inside layer angles, inside layer heights and inside layer structures were investigated. The results showed that the inside layer structure of integrated sandwich fabric composites woven by the double rapier technique stand more uprightly than those woven by the traditional velvet weaving technique. What is more the corresponding flatwise compression performance was also greatly improved. Furthermore compared to ‘8’-shaped inside layer structure composites, ‘88’-shaped inside layer structure composites can not only retain the majority of pores but also greatly improve the flatwise compression performance of the composites.
W pracy przedstawiono nową technikę wytwarzania przestrzennych zintegrowanych warstwowych tkanin o strukturze stosu w kształcie “8”. Następnie zaprojektowano nową warstwową tkaninę o strukturze stosu w kształcie „88” dla porównania ze strukturą „8”. Przebadano tkaniny warstwowe ze stosami o różnych kątach, wysokościach i strukturach. Wyniki wykazały, że struktura stosu zintegrowanej tkaniny warstwowej tkana techniką podwójnego rapieru jest bardziej prostopadła niż w przypadku tkania metodą tradycyjną. Niezależnie od tego wykazano, że tkaniny o stosie „88” nie tylko lepiej zachowują większość por, ale znacznie polepszają zachowanie się struktur podczas płaskiego ściskania.

Unipolar induction phenomenon is a special kind of electromagnetic induction. There are two quite opposite theoretical explanations for this phenomenon, i.e., the N theory and the M theory. The research of unipolar induction has made significant progress, but there is no final conclusion by now. In this paper, an experiment of inversely rotating double Faraday disks and double magnets are designed, and the unipolar induction phenomenon is verified by means of theoretical calculation and experiment. Comparing and analyzing the theoretical calculation and experiment results, our experimental results support the N theory, that is to say, our experiment shows that the magnetic field does not rotate when the magnet rotates.

The performance of microbial fuel cell (MFC) in treating potato waste was evaluated using a two-chamber MFC supplied with potato liquid after mastication of market available fresh potato. Evaluation was conducted based on electricity generation, organic matter removal (CODCr, DOC and volatile fatty acids (VFAs)), and microbial structure on the anode and in the anodic solution of the reactor. Current density exhibited a trend that followed the concentration changes of organic matter in the solution, with its highest value being observed as 208 mA/m2. Effective removal of organic matter was also observed. By the end of the experiment, the removal for total COD reached about 84%. Bacterial structure analysis based on PCR, DGGE and sequencing indicated that more species were developed in the anodic solution than on the anode, with Proteobacteria, Firmicutes and Bacteroides being dominant. Geobacter, a well reported exoelectrogenic species, was found more predominant on the anode than in the anodic solution. The results thus indicated that simultaneous stabilization and electricity generation could be achieved when potato waste is treated in MFC.

Taking the random electromagnetic cosh-Gaussian beam as a typical example of random electromagnetic beams, the analytical expressions for the cross-spectral density matrix element of random electromagnetic cosh-Gaussian beams propagating through non-Kolmogorov atmospheric turbulence are derived, and used to study the changes in the states of polarization (degree of polarization, orientation angle and degree of ellipticity) of random electromagnetic cosh-Gaussian beams in non-Kolmogorov atmospheric turbulence. It is shown that the states of polarization of random electromagnetic cosh-Gaussian beams in non-Kolmogorov atmospheric turbulence are different from those in free space. The degree of polarization decreases, and the orientation angle and degree of ellipticity increase with increasing structure constant. The on-axis degree of polarization and the degree of ellipticity appear to have an oscillatory behavior and the orientation angle has a rapid transition for the larger cosh-part parameter of random electromagnetic cosh-Gaussian beams in atmospheric turbulence.

With the fast development of power electronics techniques, electrification of shipboard power systems (SPS) is an unstoppable trend, and the concepts of electric ships (ESs) and all-electric ships (AESs) emerge. In order to meet the constantly increasing electricity demand in SPS, the medium voltage direct current (MVDC) SPS becomes a promising shipboard electrical network architecture. This paper aims to present a comprehensive review of the design, control, power management, system stability and reliability in ESs. The most recent technologies and academic achievements in these fields are discussed. In the near future, it is possible that the electric propulsion technology will be widely applied to various types of ships.

Stripe wear occurs when the components of hip prostheses move a sufficient distance laterally to contact the edge of the acetabular cup, causing abnormally high contact stresses. In this research, edge loading contact of prosthetic hip is analyzed in the most commonly used material pairs. The contact dimensions and maximal contact pressure are investigated in mutative normal edge loading with 3 different inclination angles (15°, 20°, 25°) and in alterable edge torus radius with edge loading of 2500 N and inclination of 20°. A computational case was conducted for a 14 mm radius alumina ceramic bearing with a radial clearance of 0.1 mm using a normal edge loading ranged from 0 N to 3000 N. Additionally, the Hertzian theory successfully captures principal curvature trends of the edge torus on the influence of maximal contact pressure and obtains the appropriate edge radius range for lower maximal contact pressure. This work elucidates the methods of applying classical contact theory to design the edge radius of hip bearings to better resist severe edge loading contact stresses and reduce the stripe wear.

The accurate measurement of fan speed is impact in the fan performance test experiments. As there is some relationship between the impeller tip pressure pulse frequency and speed of the impeller, the paper proposed a new impeller tip speed measurement method through counter-rotating fan speed measurement studies. The use of pressure sensors, data acquisition cards and programming technologies to measure the speed of reading directly integrated into the previous fan performance automated test systems was also presented. This proves that this is an effective method by comparing the results of the field tests.
Aby wykonać dokładny pomiar prędkości obrotowej wiatraka należy przeprowadzić test jego osiągów. Ponieważ istnieje związek pomiędzy częstotliwością zmian ciśnienia na końcówce wirnika i prędkością obracania wirnika, w niniejszym artykule zaproponowano nową metodę pomiaru prędkości obrotowej końcówki wirnika poprzez badanie pomiaru prędkości obrotowej wentylatora przeciwbieżnego. Przedstawiono również zastosowanie czujników ciśnienia, kart rejestracji danych oraz technologii programistycznych do pomiaru prędkości wskazań zawartych w poprzednich systemach automatycznego testowania osiągów wentylatora. Porównanie wyników prób terenowych dowodzi skuteczności tej metody.

In view of the size and the change of the load force of the conveyor belt at the turning point of the plane turning belt conveyor, the influencing factors of the stress of the conveyor belt at the turning point of the plane turning belt conveyor under full load condition are analyzed. A three dimensional model of the turning point of the plane turning belt conveyor is established. Combined with previous research experience, the formula for calculating the load is put forward. Based on discrete element method, multiple sets of internal curve elevation angle and the belt speed are used for dynamic simulation analysis. The results showed that the middle of conveyor belt is the most stressed, the lateral force second, the force of the inner conveyor belt is the least. Outside force increases with the increase of speed; there is no change in the middle band; the inner band force decreases with the increase of the velocity. Outside force decreases with the decrease of the inclination angle. With the change of the inclination angle, the force is basically unchanged. With the decreasing of the inclination angle, the force increases gradually. By optimizing the design parameters of the plane turning belt conveyor, the force of belt is reduced, and the service life of belt is improved.
