Opis:
Many iterative methods for the solution of linear discrete ill-posed problems with a large matrix require the computed approximate solutions to be orthogonal to the null space of the matrix. We show that when the desired solution is not smooth, it may be possible to determine meaningful approximate solutions with less computational work by not imposing this orthogonality condition.

Opis:
The categorical compositional distributional model of natural language provides a conceptually motivated procedure to compute the meaning of a sentence, given its grammatical structure and the meanings of its words. This approach has outperformed other models in mainstream empirical language processing tasks, but lacks an effective model of lexical entailment. We address this shortcoming by exploiting the freedom in our abstract categorical framework to change our choice of semantic model. This allows us to describe hyponymy as a graded order on meanings, using models of partial information used in quantum computation. Quantum logic embeds in this graded order.

Opis:
Binding isotope effects are a sensitive measure of changes in molecular vibrational character that occur during ligand- receptor binding. In this study, we have measured isotope effects on the binding of glucose to human brain hexokinase using the ultrafiltration method, with the following results: 0.991š0.001, 0.908š0.003, 1.010š0.001, 0.974š0.002, 1.022š0.002 for [14C]-glucose mixed with [1-3H]-, [2-3H]-, [3-3H]-, [5-3H]-, [6,6-3H2]-glucose, respectively. Comparing the observed data with isotope effects on the anomeric equilibrium in glucose reported previously [3] proves the existence of binding isotope effects in this system. Preliminary computational results are presented to explain the observed binding isotope effects in terms of hydrogen bond patterns and molecular crowding found in the binary complex of sugar and enzyme.

Opis:
This paper presents the merging of two sets of experiments in the continuing endeavor to mine epileptiform activity from Electroencephalograms (EEG). The goal is to develop robust classification rules for identifying epileptiform activity in the human brain. We present advancements using the author's proprietary developed spectral analysis software to link power spectra of rat EEGs experiencing epilepsy seizures with the authors DFA algorithm and their MATLAB spectral analysis. Our system links 1) power spectra of seizures, in sleep, spike and seizure states, with 2) Deterministic Finite Automata (DFA). Combining power spectra with DFA to correctly predict and identify epileptiform activity (spikes) and epileptic seizures opens the door to creating classifiers for seizures. We also present a DFA that separates the states between seizure and nonseizure using robust testing and additional algorithms to increase the rigor when the methodology analyses noisy signals. Our results show optimal identification of seizures even when significant artifact and noise is present in the polyphonic domain. Herein we present a dual methodology that increases epileptoid identification in a noisy domain that links time and frequency domain components from MATLAB and proprietary software to clinical epileptiform activity.
