The aim of the paper is to present selected economic problems of Zygmunt Załęski (1892–1966), a leading organizer of new village movement from the times of the Second Polish Republic and an outstanding co-initiator of so-called “Wici” agrarism. During World War II under the German occupation Zygmunt Załęski performed a function as a director of Agriculture Department of the Government Delegation for Poland. Zygmunt Załęski left a multiplicity of socio-economic thoughts, from which only some, related to organization of national economy, mainly agriculture, rural reform, pricing, work and hidden unemployment have been selected and discussed by the authors.
Celem niniejszego opracowania jest przedstawienie wybranych poglądów ekonomicznych Zygmunta Załęskiego (1892–1966), czołowego animatora ruchu młodowiejskiego z czasów II Rzeczypospolitej i jednocześnie wybitnego współtwórcy tzw. wiciowego agraryzmu.

Bohdan Baranowski (1915–1993), a prominent Polish historian, doctor honoris causa of the University of Łódź who had a great track record in creating a separate school of historical ethnography. Having overcome a methodological stereotype of classical ethnography he managed to integrate it with classical history. Thanks to that numerous works of Professor and his students were created and they transferred folk culture studies to the deep past, to modern times and even to medieval times, whereas scientific value of these publications significantly rose due to using written sources (historical ones).

A relic, that was founded in 1985 in Kalisz, is one of the most mysterious objects of late medieval firearms from the Kingdom of Poland. This is a barrel of a medieval small firearm, made of a copper alloy. This is a so small-sized object: the length of the barrel is only 5,7 cm and this is octagonal in a diameter. There is a lead bullet, stick in the barrel. The weapon’s calibre is 13 mm (.51 cal.), and its weight with the bullet is just 200 mg. Thus, it is really difficult to show any analogy for this handgun. Scientists stress that other examples of medieval small arms (from different european collections) are much longer (usually it is at least over a dozen centimetres). The relic was found in mixed layers, what renders impossible the dating on the base of stratigraphy. One of Polish scientists, M. Głosek, proves that a technology and all analogies designate the end of the 14th century as the time of origin .The author of the article says, that this thesis has many weak points. The technology and some characteristic features are typical for many of relics from the late medieval: from the end of the 14th century, as well as from the 15th century. The author engages also in a controversy with M. Głosek’s theory, that the object from Kalisz is the oldest one firearm relic in Poland. L. Walkiewicz claims, that it was invented after a discover of the granular gunpowder (after 1410-1420). This hypothesis, even if it is probable, is difficult to prove, and thus the issue of the Kalisz weapon dating is still open.

In this article the careers of Polish deputies and senators from IV, V and VI term of the Parliament were analyzed. The author shows that after 1989, more and more MPs had local government experience. From the V term deputies and senators with experience in local government comprise a majority of Parliament members. The author presents statistics about MPs, who worked in local government: to which parliamentary clubs they belong; at what level of local government they gained experience; what positions they occupied in local authorities. In this way, the author illustrates the process of recruiting the parliamentary elite out of representatives of local government.

Artykuł podejmuje problematykę związku systemu wartości osób zarządzających szkołami oraz stylów kierowania. Na podstawie przeglądu literatury oraz dostępnych raportów zaprojektowano badania pilotażowe. Wstępne wnioski chociaż nie mają charakteru przesądzającego, to potwierdzają wcześniej omówione rezultaty uzyskane w badaniach zrealizowanych w innych środowiskach kulturowych. Wyniki sugerują pewną zbieżność co do dominującego sytemu warto-ści i preferowanego stylu kierowania/przywództwa dyrektorów szkół.
The main aim of this article is to describe the potential correlation between the value system of school principals and their leadership styles. On the basis of wide veriaty of literature and available reports the pilot studies were created. Although the first results (obtained during pilot studies) are not definitive they correspond with the results of the research conducted in different environ-ments. The results suggest the existence of the correlation between dominant value system and preferred style of leadership of particular principals.

Between 1950 and 2010, the central and southern parts of the fortified settlement in Poznań yielded over 280 glass mosaic cubes – tesserae, dated to the 11th till 13th century (the largest collection of such decorative elements in Poland). The western part of the site Ostrów Tumski 13 (OT 13), produced two more cubes. The cubes (one translucent and gilded, the other one red) probably come from the destroyed palatial-sacral complex, or from the cathedral, or any other building in the area.

In July 2008 a roadside well was discovered on the cathedral island in Poznań (to date at least five drawing wells from the late Middle Ages and modern times have been registered).  The well was unearthed at the rose square (excavation pit 51/2008) about 18 m from the facade of the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary (and the now nonexistent churchyard) at the level of  56.09 meters above sea level (rubble fill-in) – 50.61 meters above sea level (end of exploration) – Fig. 1.  The object was situated directly next to the road, in a large oval or quadrilateral pit (with rounded corners) ca 3.6 m in diameter, and was ca 5.5 m deep. The wooden construction which protected the walls of the object was done in the post and beam technique – Fig. 2. Many different objects fell (were thrown) into the well while water was being drawn from it, perhaps some of them were redeemed while other remained at the bottom. However, most of the “sunk” relics got into the well while it was being dug or repaired, but especially when it was filled in, i.e. when water was no longer drawn from it (Figs. 4 and 5).The well, which was sunk during the rule of Bishop Jan Lubrański (1499-1520), i.e. at a time of prosperity of Ostrów Tumski in the 16th century, was in use and water was drawn from it in the 15/16-17th centuries. Opis:
The paper features a grid-tied converter with a repetitive current controller. Our goal here is to demonstrate the complete design workflow for a repetitive controller, including phase lead, filtering and conditional learning. All key parameters, i.e., controller gain, filter and fractional phase lead, are designed in a single optimization procedure, which is a novel approach. The description of the design and optimization process, as well as experimental verification of the entire control system, are the most important contributions of the paper. Additionally, one more novelty in the context of power converters is verified in the physical system – a conditional learning algorithm to improve transient states to abrupt reference and disturbance changes. The resulting control system is tested experimentally in a 10 kW converter.

Strengthening collapsible and unsaturated substrates. Summary In this work there are presented physical properties of multiphase material under negative pressure in the pores, affecting the flow of water, considered as the relationship between the saturation of the pores and the value of matric suction. The process of moisture content changes is supplemented by the description of the strength properties of the partially saturated substrate. The effective stresses are based on Terzaghi’s dependence, regarding modification made by Bishop for consideration of the negative pore pressure. Theoretical calculations are based on the criterion of the strength of the unsaturated soil in correlation with the Fredlund’s concept along with subsequently followed modifications. In the part concerning the features of unsaturated soil, the problem of the group of piles cooperating with the pile cap under the vertical load has been solved. The numerical modeling algorithm was made in correlation with symmetry and then calibrated what was based on numerous field experiments. The applicability of well-documented issues concerning saturated soil mechanics was extended while taking into account substrates with negative air pressure in the pores. The author paid attention to methods for strengthening the eolic collapsible material – loess, as the particular part of unsaturated soils. The following list presents the wide choice of possible solutions that have been experimented on field tests: • bored multilayer soil columns, • bored multilayer soil columns reinforced by adding fibers to their core and shell, • the triplet method, which seems to be an option considering soil columns after the process of a high-energy consolidation and deep humidification of the substrate, • the above methods supplemented with geotextiles additionally. The work presents three-dimensional numerical models, including FEM, FDM, allowing the tracking of processes which take place in the contact between structural components and soil. There are options for an improved substrate including the reinforcement with geotextiles and analytical models that are convenient to use. The work is focused on forecasting the flow in the substrate material and detecting possible sources of water. The randomness has got a significant role in the process 156 Strengthening collapsible and unsaturated substrates. Summary of water transportation in capillaries such as distribution, diameter, length, and relations between them. As a result, this seems to introduce a complementary component for calculations and considerations in the area of reliability analysis. The special reliability methods are used in case of nonlinear material in order to detect and obtain small failure probability values. In the technological core part, the problem of preventing failures of embankments on sensitive soils is taken into consideration. The key issue seems to be bored multilayer soil columns along with analytical solutions which try to offer a highly effective way to improve loess substrate. They give a long-lasting effect of the increased value of stiffness strength, which results in increased resistance of the constructed structure both to overload and hydration. The technologies presented might be characterized by a small number of supplements as well as by small energy and labor consumption. The reinforced base material is deprived of sensitivity to any changes in saturation and has got better strength parameters.

Opis:
The paper features a grid-tied converter with a repetitive current controller. Our goal here is to demonstrate the complete design workflow for a repetitive controller, including phase lead, filtering and conditional learning. All key parameters, i.e., controller gain, filter and fractional phase lead, are designed in a single optimization procedure, which is a novel approach. The description of the design and optimization process, as well as experimental verification of the entire control system, are the most important contributions of the paper. Additionally, one more novelty in the context of power converters is verified in the physical system – a conditional learning algorithm to improve transient states to abrupt reference and disturbance changes. The resulting control system is tested experimentally in a 10 kW converter.

W obecnych czasach szybki rozwój infrastruktury i nowoczesnych technologii niejednokrotnie narzuca projektantom oraz wykonawcom takie rozwiązania, aby prowadzone roboty budowlane były jak najmniej uciążliwe dla uczestników ruchu i nie ingerowały w system komunikacyjny. Dotyczy to zarówno budowy nowych obiektów, jak i remontu już istniejących. W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono nowatorską koncepcję remontu wiaduktu w ciągu drogi krajowej nr 12 nad torami PKP w miejscowości Podbór. Problemem, który występował podczas eksploatacji obiektu i prowadził do potrzeby pilnej oraz jak najmniej inwazyjnej jego naprawy, było nadmierne osiadanie nasypu za przyczółkiem. Pierwszy raz w Polsce wykonano wzmocnienie gruntu za przyczółkiem wiaduktu przy użyciu iniekcji geopolimerowych, które w znaczący sposób skróciło czas ograniczenia w ruchu kołowym, a tym samym także samego remontu.
Nowadays, the rapid development of infrastructure and modern technologies often imposes on designers and contractors solutions which make the carried out construction works hassle-free for road users and interfere with the communication system as little as possible. This work presents an innovative concept for the renovation of the viaduct along National Road No. 12 over the PKP tracks in Podbór. The problem that occurred during the exploatation of the viaduct and led to the urgent and least invasive repair of it was excessive settlement of the embankment behind the abutment. For the first time in Poland, the abutment of viaduct was strengthened using geopolymer injections, which significantly reduced the time allocated to the restrictions on road traffic, and thus shortened the time of the investment itself.

Cultured skin fibroblasts from a proband with a lethal form of osteogenesis imperfecta produce two forms of type I collagen chains, with normal and delayed electrophoretic migration; collagen of the proband's mother was normal. Peptide mapping experiments localized the structural defect in the proband to α1(I) CB8 peptide in which residues 123 to 402 are spaned. Direct sequencing of amplified cDNA covering this region revealed a G to A single base change in one allele of the α1(I) chain, that converted glycine 388 to arginine. Restriction enzyme digestion of the RT-PCR product was consistent with a heterozygous COL1A1 mutation. The novel mutation conforms to the linear gradient of clinical severity for the α1(I) chain and results in reduced thermal stability by 3°C and intracellular retention of abnormal molecules.

The article presents a part of the work done in a research and development project being made by SWIATEK Lech Swiatek company. It describes the comparison of different fuels used in piston engines with JET-A1 turbine engine fuel. Next, the proposed combustion process of JET-A1 fuel and a prototype one-cylinder engine are described. In details, a special cylinder head and direct injection programmable computer are presented. In the next part, a designed and built test stand is described. Finally, the results and conclusions are presented. The designed test stand enabled to perform assumed tests. The innovative JET-A1 combustion process was possible to perform and the power and torque were higher in 1900-3000 rpm range than with the gasoline fuel. The designed GDI programmable injection computer enabled to fully control the injection and ignition parameters.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the exposure of patients to organic substances produced and identified in surgical smoke formed in the abdominal cavity during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Material and Methods: Identification of these substances in surgical smoke was performed by the use of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) with selective ion monitoring (SIM). The selected biomarkers of exposure to surgical smoke included benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene. Their concentrations in the urine samples collected from each patient before and after the surgery were determined by SPME-GC/MS. Results: Qualitative analysis of the smoke produced during laparoscopic procedures revealed the presence of a wide variety of potentially toxic chemicals such as benzene, toluene, xylene, dioxins and other substances. The average concentrations of benzene and toluene in the urine of the patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy, in contrast to the other determined compounds, were significantly higher after the surgery than before it, which indicates that they were absorbed. Conclusions: The source of the compounds produced in the abdominal cavity during the surgery is tissue pyrolysis in the presence of carbon dioxide atmosphere. All patients undergoing laparoscopic procedures are at risk of absorbing and excreting smoke by-products. Exposure of the patient to emerging chemical compounds is usually a one-time and short-term incident, yet concentrations of benzene and toluene found in the urine were significantly higher after the surgery than before it.

Postinflammatory pancreatic pseudocysts are one of the most common complications of acute pancreatitis. In most cases, pseudocysts self-absorb in the course of treatment of pancreatitis. In some patients, pancreatic pseudocysts are symptomatic and cause pain, problems with gastrointestinal transit, and other complications. In such cases, drainage or resection should be performed. Among the invasive methods, mini invasive procedures like endoscopic transmural drainage through the wall of the stomach or duodenum play an important role. For endoscopic transmural drainage, it is necessary that the cyst wall adheres to the stomach or duodenum, making a visible impression. We present a very rare case of infeasibility of endoscopic drainage of a postinflammatory pancreatic pseudocyst, impressing the stomach, due to cyst wall calcifications. A 55-year-old man after acute pancreatitis presented with a 1-year history of epigastric pain and was admitted due to a postinflammatory pseudocyst in the body and tail of pancreas. On admission, blood tests, including CA 19-9 and CEA, were normal. An ultrasound examination revealed a 100-mm pseudocyst in the tail of pancreas, which was confirmed on CT and EUS. Acoustic shadowing caused by cyst wall calcifications made the cyst unavailable to ultrasound assessment and percutaneous drainage. Gastroscopy revealed an impression on the stomach wall from the outside. The patient was scheduled for endoscopic transmural drainage. After insufflation of the stomach, a large mass protruding from the wall was observed. The stomach mucosa was punctured with a cystotome needle knife, and the pancreatic cyst wall was reached. Due to cyst wall calcifications, endoscopic drainage of the cyst was unfeasible. Profuse submucosal bleeding at the puncture site was stopped by placing clips. The patient was scheduled for open surgery, and distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy was performed. The histopathological examination confirmed the initial diagnosis of postinflammatory pancreatic pseudocyst. Endoscopic transmural drainage is a highly effective procedure for treating postinflammatory pancreatic pseudocysts. In some patents, especially with large pseudocysts, pseudocysts with calcified walls, and cysts of primary origin, resection should be performed.

Pozapalne torbiele rzekome trzustki są jednymi z najczęściej występujących powikłań ostrego zapalenia trzustki. W większości przypadków ulegają samoistnemu wchłonięciu. U niektórych chorych przetrwałe torbiele pozapalne są jednak przyczyną dolegliwości bólowych, zaburzeń pasażu żołądkowo-jelitowego lub innych powikłań. W takich przypadkach wskazane jest leczenie drenażowe lub resekcyjne. Jedną z najbardziej skutecznych drenażowych metod leczenia rzekomych torbieli pozapalnych trzustki jest cystogastrostomia endoskopowa. Warunkiem drenażu endoskopowego jest przyleganie ściany torbieli do żołądka stwierdzone w badaniach obrazowych i badaniu endoskopowym. Praca przedstawia opis bardzo rzadkiego przypadku nieskuteczności endoskopowego drenażu torbieli trzustki wpuklającej się do światła żołądka z powodu rozległych zwapnień w jej ścianie. Pięćdziesięciopięcioletni mężczyzna po przebytym ostrym zapaleniu trzustki, z trwającymi od roku bólami w nadbrzuszu, został przyjęty do kliniki w celu leczenia pozapalnej torbieli trzonu i ogona trzustki. Przy przyjęciu w badaniach laboratoryjnych nie stwierdzono odchyleń, stężenie markerów nowotworowych CA 19-9 i CEA było w granicach normy. W badaniu ultrasonograficznym stwierdzono dużą torbiel rzekomą ogona trzustki, co potwierdzono w tomografii komputerowej oraz endoskopowej ultrasonografii (EUS). Zwapnienia w ścianie zbiornika powodowały cień akustyczny, uniemożliwiając ocenę jego zawartości i drenaż przezskórny. Badanie gastroskopowe wykazało ucisk z zewnątrz na dno żołądka. Chorego zakwalifikowano do cystogastrostomii endoskopowej. Po wprowadzeniu endoskopu do żołądka i insuflacji CO2, uwidoczniono w inwersji dużą masę wpuklającą się w dno żołądka. Igłą cystotomu Giovanniego nakłuto śluzówkę żołądka, docierając do torebki torbieli, której w kolejnych próbach nie udało się przebić z powodu zwapnień w jej ścianie. W miejscu po nakłuciu obserwowano obfite krwawienie z naczynia podśluzówkowego, które zatamowano przy użyciu klipsów endoskopowych. Chory został zakwalifikowany do leczenia operacyjnego. W trybie planowym wykonano obwodową resekcję trzustki ze zwapniałą torbielą oraz splenektomię. Badanie histopatologiczne potwierdziło pozapalny charakter torbieli. Cystogastrostomia endoskopowa jest wysoce skuteczną metodą leczenia pozapalnych torbieli trzustki. U części chorych, zwłaszcza w przypadkach dużych torbieli trzustki z mnogimi zwapnieniami w ścianie, lub w sytuacji podejrzenia torbieli prawdziwej, wskazane jest leczenie pierwotnie operacyjne.

Introduction and aims: The paper shows the analytical models of solving right triangles with appropriate discussion. For right triangles have been discussed six cases taking into account the acute angle and the difference of two sides length in the right triangle. The main aim of this paper is not only to create some analytical algorithms for solving right triangle, but also their implementation in programs MS-Excel, MathCAD and Mathematica. Material and methods: Elaboration of six analytical cases of solving right triangles has been made on the basis of the relevant trigonometric properties occurring in a right triangle. In the paper have been used some analytical and numerical methods by using MS-Excel, MathCAD and Mathematica programs. Results: As some results have been obtained numerical algorithms in the programs MS-Excel, MathCAD and Mathematica for six analytical cases of solving right triangles taking into ac-count the acute angle and the difference of two side length in the right triangle. Conclusion: Created numerical algorithms of solving the right triangles in the programs MS-Excel, MathCAD and Mathematica allow for faster significant performance calculations than the traditional way of using logarithms and logarithmic tables
Wstęp i cele: W pracy pokazano analityczne modele rozwiązywania trójkątów prostokątnych wraz z odpowiednią dyskusją. Dla trójkątów prostokątnych omówiono sześć przypadków z uwzględnieniem kąta ostrego oraz różnicy długości dwóch boków trójkąta. Głównym celem jest pracy jest nie tylko utworzenie algorytmów analitycznych rozwiązywania takich trójkątów lecz również ich implementacja w programach MS-Excel, MathCAD i Mathematica. Materiał i metody: Opracowanie sześciu analitycznych przypadków rozwiązywania trójkątów prostokątnych wykonano opierając się odpowiednich własnościach trygonometrycznych występujących w trójkącie prostokątnym. Zastosowano metodę analityczną i numeryczną wykorzystując programy MS-Excel, MathCAD i Mathematica. Wyniki: Otrzymano algorytmy numeryczne w programach MS-Excel, MathCAD i Mathematica dla sześciu analitycznych przypadków rozwiązywania trójkątów prostokątnych z uwzględnieniem kąta ostrego oraz różnicy długości dwóch boków trójkąta. Wniosek: Utworzone algorytmy numeryczne rozwiązywania trójkątów prostokątnych w programach MS-Excel, MathCAD oraz Mathematica, pozwalają na znaczne szybsze wykonanie obliczeń niż drogą tradycyjną z użyciem logarytmów i tablic logarytmicznych.

The text consists of three integrated parts, accepted reciprocally but written separately by the above authors as coordinators of the debates and editors of the book prepared for the Vth Special Symposium of the 10th Polish Pedagogical Congress. In the Introduction we start with recalling the detailed list of problems inserted into this framework of debates. Part One puts forward the issue of “modern tradition” as the object of a new research perspective, postulated for the history of the Polish pedagogical thinking. The purpose is defined as revitalization of the tradition of ideas in their modern applications but without just a sentimental approach or purely historical intention. We want to regain access to new ideas through old categories as defining valuable places within the symbolic heritage of pedagogy. The basic instruments contain reference to concepts of generation, duality turn-over, recognition and permit discussing political contents for contemporary democratic education. The Second Part of the paper deals with ways of preservation of the past achievements in the practical and theoretical consciousness of new generations of researchers and teachers. We deal with the concepts of memory and forgetting as interlinked within mentality, affectivity and activities. References to Ricoeur, Freud and Radlińska are among the most crucial ones here. Then the tools for analysis of links between these three dimensions are discussed in depth. The basic inspirations stem here from Bachelard. Then we treat conclusive remarks as a new opening for future discussions. We stress the necessity to settle accounts with activity of various important Polish pedagogists like Bogdan Suchodolski in the “Stalinist era” in Poland and in its follow up, e.g. by a prolonged insistence upon the concept of the “bourgeois” tradition, as disqualifying and putting aside an important part of pre-war heritage, which was basic for installing education in Poland after regaining independence in 1918 and was disqualified by the orthodox Marxist domination after 1945. We stress that some practices of exclusion and contempt are present in the contemporary pedagogical literature as well.
