    The aim of the article is to present the notion “derivation category” in the light of structural and cognitive linguistics. The mentioned question is described on the basis of the example of Polish and Russian categories: nomina attributiva and nomina instrumenti. The author also touches upon the question of classical categorization theory and the concept of prototype categories which has significantly influenced the way of perception of the question under discussion.

    The author analyzes the different shades of meaning and the semantic valency of Polish and Russian adjectival derivatives with the suffix -liw- /-лив-. The words that are studied here exhibit an anthropocentric orientation as they principally describe natural human inclinations and collocate with personal nouns. Semantically impersonal adjectives are sparse among the analyzed lexemes in both languages.

    The purpose of the article is to present the status of the derivational category nomina instrumenti in the light of cognitive linguistics. The adoption of the prototype approach allows to broaden the category nomina instrumenti by the names, which have been often excluded from it. The results of structural and semantic analysis of nomina instrumenti with the suffix -k(a) in the contemporary Russian language have been presented.

    The essence of marriage is being widely discussed in the last few decades in many social circles and at many different levels. From the linguistic point of view it is usually characterised on the basis of man’s and woman’s roles in their relationship. The aim of the paper is to present the view of marriage in Polish, Russian and English proverbial phrases. For the purposes of the article about 350 Polish and Russian and about 300 English proverbs have been subjected to cognitive analysis. The research proves that the concept of marriage is roughly universal in all three languages and it presents definitely an androcentric perspective. Wives in proverbs are shown in a very unfavourable light as grouchy, quarrelsome, unfaithful and narrow-minded human beings. Marriage reflected in sayings is usually a burden which diminishes man’s happiness and may even lead to his sickness, fast aging and death. What is more, quite a lot of proverbial phrases in all three languages under study foster violence against women. The concept of marriage presented in proverbs is undoubtedly a reflection of the old way of thinking and the old system of values, but the preliminary research of anti-proverbs, i.e. more modern expressions, proves that it has not undergone any fundamental changes in the language awareness of the Polish, Russian and English native speakers.

    The author analyses nouns denoting people in the contemporary Russian language. The ways such nouns appear in the 21st century Russian linguistic system fit well into general tendencies of the development of the Russian lexicon, mostly involving internalization. Therefore the majority of new names denoting people are either loanwords or hybrid words, i. e. lexemes derived from foreign stems with the use of Russian affixes. The most numerous thematic groups are constituted by names of professionals and political activists.

    The author of the article present the ways of profiling of reality by Russian compund namesof instruments in comparison to their Polish equivalents. The analysis of the lexical material showsthat the majority of Russian nomina instrumenti and their Polish counterparts expose the same orvery similar semantic aspects. The differences in the ways of presenting of cognitive content canbe observed only in the group of these Russian compound nouns which Polish equivalents belongto the suffixal derivatives.

    Aim of study: Evaluation of the speech therapy on voice quality in patients with unilateral vocal fold palsy. Material and methods: The study group included 11 patients, 8 women and 3 men, in age between 16 to 72 years, with unilateral vocal fold palsy, diagnosed in ENT Department of Warsaw Medical University between 2017-2018. Each person completed questionnaires: the voice disability self-assessment scale (VHI), the voice-based quality of life (VRQoL) scale, the vocal tract discomfort scale (VTD). All questionnaires were completed twice, before and after the voice therapy. In addition, the acoustic analysis of the voice, the assessment of the maximum phonation time and the breathing tract were performed twice in each patient. Each of the patients had a voice rehabilitation consisting of a series of 10 meetings. Results: Statistical analysis of the results of maximum phonation time, the self-assessment of voice disability, the quality of life depending on the voice, discomfort of the vocal tract voice acoustic analysis showed statistically significant differences in the results before and after rehabilitation (p <0.005). In addition, the improvement of the respiratory tract was observed in the majority of patients. Conclusions: Speech therapy significantly affects the voice quality of patients with unilateral laryngeal nerve palsy.
    Cel pracy: Ocena wpływu terapii logopedycznej na jakość głosu u pacjentów z jednostronnym porażeniem krtani. Materiał i Metody: Badaniem objęto 11 pacjentów, w tym 8 kobiet i 3 mężczyzn w wieku od 16 do 72 lat, diagnozowanych z powodu problemów z głosem w Klinice Otolaryngologii i Poradni Foniatrycznej SP CSK w latach 2017‒2018. Każda osoba została poproszona o wypełnienie kwestionariuszy: skala samooceny niepełnosprawności głosu (VHI), skala jakości życia zależnej od głosu (VRQoL), skala dyskomfortu traktu głosowego (VTD). Powyższe kwestionariusze były wypełniane przez badanych dwukrotnie, przed rozpoczęciem rehabilitacji głosu oraz po niej. Ponadto u każdego z pacjentów została dwukrotnie wykonana analiza akustyczna głosu, ocena maksymalnego czasu fonacji oraz toru oddechowego. Każdy z chorych odbył rehabilitację głosu składającą się z cyklu 10 spotkań. Wyniki: Analiza statystyczna wyników maksymalnego czasu fonacji, skali samooceny niepełnosprawności głosu, skali jakości życia zależnej od głosu, skali dyskomfortu traktu głosowego analizy akustycznej głosu wykazała istotne statystycznie różnice w wynikach przed rehabilitacją i po niej (p<0,005). Ponadto u większości pacjentów zaobserwowano poprawę toru oddechowego. Wnioski: Terapia logopedyczna istotnie wpływa na jakość głosu pacjentów z jednostronnym porażeniem nerwu krtaniowego.

    The article is a commentary on the Code of Ethics of the Polish Historical Association published in March 2021. In the first part of the article, we critically discuss the Code using the metaphor of a “besieged fortress” and the categories of hierarchy and truth. In our view, by taking a defensive position, reproducing hierarchical relations within the community of historians and in relation to the public, and by placing the category of truth at the centre of the principles of the discipline, the authors of the Code do not respond to the contemporary challenges facing history. In the second part, we postulate the rebuilding of the Code on the basis of the categories of dialogue, polyphony and democracy, and we propose a number of amendments to its content.
