    In the course of our investigation on electrochemical synthesis the electrochemical méthoxylation of isopulegole (̲1) and α-pinene (̲2) was carried out. In the case of ̲1 product obtained was a very complex mixture with 3,4-dimethoxy- p-8(9)-menthene (3) as the major component. The méthoxylation of ̲2 yields sobrerol dimethyl diether [6,8-dimethoxy-p-l(2)-methane] (̲4) as the major component. The electrochemical methoxylatiorn of 3-carene, α-pinene or limonene gives in the described conditions a mixture of several compounds difficult to separate into indyvidual components.

    Psychic sex consists of gender identity (self-estimation), gender role (objective estimation of the behavior) and psycho-sexual orientation (hetero-, bi- or homosexual). It was believed that gender identification depends on the socio-environmental influences such as rearing, learning and individual choice. It has become recently evident that endogenous hormones more than socio-environmental factors may create sexually dimorphic gender identification and role. Experiments revealed that transient action of sex steroids (testosterone or estradiol) during perinatal life is crucial for the development of male sexual behavior in adulthood. In human male testosterone, produced perinatally in adult-type amounts, may play a role in the masculinisation of the brain i.e. creation of physiological and behavioral differences versus the female brain. In patients with disturbances of sexual differentiation of external genitalia (intersexuality) gender identity is also affected. Female gender identity is associated with the presence of ovaries or the lack of gonads (agenesis/dysgenesis), i.e. lack of sex steroids in fetal life. Male gender identity appears in the presence of testicular tissue (presence of testosterone in fetal life) irrespective of karyotype and phenotype of the body. In genetic men with the absence of male genitalia due to aberrant function of the androgen receptor (46,XY women), gender identity depends on the severity of the disorder: female - in the complete form and female, male or ambivalent - in the partial. These indicate that androgens are involved in the creation of male gender identity, whereas a female identity develops in the absence of androgen action during sexual differentiation.

    The main subject of this paper is a depiction of the Vietnam war hero as portrayed in films of the genre. The article concentrates on the model of a male protagonist regularly employed in the 1980s and 1990s war pictures, through the analysis of the most important and fascinating characters of the discussed genre, in particular the “Rambo” series and “Missing in Action”. The paper also explores the issue of narrative changes, introduced through sequels, to address cinemagoers’ needs. The main character of a war film is depicted through the prism of the physical manifestation of masculinity and the Reagan politics permeating various media in 1980s. The study is based on the development of issues discussed and analysed by Zbyszek Melosik and other authors. It considers both convergent and divergent characteristics of the numerous protagonists of the genre appearing in silver screen productions. A muscular, powerful physique, together with a strong and determined personality, are the most emphasised and visible features in the film narrative. Also, quite noticeable is the role of violence, so characteristic of war films of the era. Regardless of the subject matter of the films, which tackle the first American war defeat, they often offer an overload of titillating violence. This aspect, which is strictly associated with the issue of building up a statuesque war film hero, is considered in the paper as well. The concluding section covers an analysis of the state of cinema, addressing the Vietnam war in the following years and a comparison of the 1980s male hero of the genre with a new type of masculinity promoted in modern cinematography.

    Opis:
    In this work a search operation support system is presented, which is an additional autopilot function block. Its task is to lead a vessel included in the search by the SAR services to the datum position on the basis of the data entered by the operator into the system and then automatically to search the indicated area according to the newly defined search pattern. The set goal can be achieved thanks to the autopilot that guides the ship along a given trajectory consisting of straight lines and arcs. High control accuracy is provided by the IMC control system using a relatively simple non-linear ship model. The simulation tests of the tanker model confirmed that the indicated search area can be precisely checked in a shorter time than when using the expanding square search pattern.

    Opis:
    Hydrogen storage for the purposes of the automotive industry in a form other than under high pressure or cryo conditions has been under careful investigation by researchers over past decades. One of the arising methods is the usage of powdered/granulated beds that contain metal hydrides and/or carbon materials to take advantage of the “spillover” phenomenon. Handling and characterization of such material can be troublesome, which is why the experimental setup needs careful investigation. The apparatus for the analysis of hydrogen sorption/desorption characteristics has been successfully designed and described based on the constructed unit within the scope of this article. The full functionality of that setup covered fuelling the bed as well as the examination of sorption/desorption potential. Moreover, the proposed experimental device can clarify many uncertainties about further development and optimization of hydrogen storage materials.
