Opis:
The sorption of Pb2+ on the composite sorbent obtained by incorporating of copper(II)-potassium hexacyanoferrate or nickel(II)-potassium hexacyanoferrate and magnetite into sulphonated phenolic resin was studied. The sorption kinetics were performed in hydrochloric, nitric and sulphuric acid solutions in the concentrations range from 10-4 molźdm-3 to 1 molźdm-3. The distribution coefficients for the lead(II) sorption on the sorbents in these conditions were determined. The highest Kd values, more than 1000 cm3źg-1, were obtained for composite sorbents CuNCFM from HCl, HNO3 and H2SO4 (range concentration 10-4-10-2) and for CuNCF and NiNCF from HCl (range concentration 10-4-10-2). Also, the lead(II) sorption on the magnetite-loaded resin was performed.

Previous investigations of the authors surveyed the possibility of applying interval methods to seek the Paretofront of a multicriterial nonlinear problem. An efficient algorithm has been proposed and its implementation in a multicore environment has been done and tested. This paper has two goals. First one is to tune the developed algorithm to increase the speedup of the multi-threaded variant. The second one is to extend the algorithm to compute not only the Paretofront (in the criteria space), but also the Pareto-set (in the decision space). Numerical results for suitable test problems are presented.

Opis:
The problem of seeking strong Nash equilibria of a continuous game is considered. For some games, these points cannot be found analytically, only numerically. Interval methods provide us with an approach to rigorously verify the existence of equilibria in certain points. A proper algorithm is presented. We formulate and prove propositions, that give us features which have to be used by the algorithm (to the best knowledge of the authors, these propositions and properties are original). Parallelization of the algorithm is also considered, and numerical results are presented. As a particular example, we consider the game of “misanthropic individuals”, a game, invented by the first author, that may have several strong Nash equilibria depending on the number of players. Our algorithm is able to localize and verify these equilibria.

The aim of the research is to obtain preliminary information about the spatial distribution of gamma radionuclides in the soils taken from the Ojców National Park with emphasis on the behaviour of artificial radionuclides, with 137Cs as a representative. The natural radionuclides 40K, 226Ra (uranium series), and 228Th (thorium series), which are considered as background radiation, were also determined. In total, 18 soil samples were collected during the summer periods in 2015–2017, while the sampling points were selected with respect to differences in rainfall and local topography gradient. The method was based on gamma-ray spectrometry performed on high-purity germanium (HPGe) gamma detector (relative efficiency 34%). 137Cs was mostly deposited in the top soil layers, with activity in the range of 27.9÷586.6 Bq•kg–1. We found strong positive correlation of the 137Cs activity with the soil organic matter content, and at the same time, its dependence on the rainfall amount. Consequently, the soil types and local climate can control the spatial distribution of 137Cs on a small spatial scale. The quantity of natural radionuclides was highly similar in all samples with the following mean values: 38.0 Bq•kg–1 for 228Th, 33.1 Bq•kg–1 for 226Ra, and 479.9 Bq•kg–1 for 40K.

In this work empirical functions which relate the full-energy peak efficiency with sample height, energy, matrix composition and bulk density for voluminal samples in a cylindrical counting geometry were found. Accurate determination of the radioactivity of gamma-emitting radionuclides in environmental samples requires taking into account self-absorption. For the obtained self-absorption correction factor, a direct transmission method was chosen. Finally, this paper proposes a simple correlation between the self-absorption correction factor and the bulk density and height of the measured sample for a given energy.

The paper presents the results of radioactivity determination of artificial 137Cs and natural 40K in soil samples taken from the Tatra Mountains in Poland (Tatra National Park – TPN). Soil samples were collected as the cores of 10 cm in diameter and 10 cm in depth. These cores were divided into 3 slices. It has been found that the content of 137Cs was the highest at the sites of the altitude over 1300 m a.s.l. The values of 137Cs concentration in the soils examined varied – from 55.8 Bqźkg–1 (dry mass) (417.8 Bqźm–2) for the Tomanowa Pass (1685 m a.s.l.) to 5111 Bqźkg–1 (dry mass) (8400 Bqźm–2) for the Krzyzne Pass (2112 m a.s.l.). In most cases, the values were lower than the average radiocaesium concentration established for Poland.

Osady denne stanowią istotny składnik środowiska wodnego, akumulując składniki mineralne, w tym metale ciężkie. Zbiornik Dobczycki, będąc rezerwuarem wody pitnej dla aglomeracji krakowskiej, spełnia bardzo ważną funkcję gospodarczą. W badaniach osadów dennych Zbiornika Dobczyckiego wykonano analizę wierzchniej ich warstwy w 17 punktach pomiarowych. Pozwoliło to na opisanie dystrybucji metali w czaszy zbiornika oraz ocenę czynników warunkujących tę dystrybucję. Analizę wykonano dwoma metodami: metodą atomowej spektrometrii absorpcyjnej oraz metodą PIXE. Stwierdzono, z wykorzystaniem narzędzi statystycznych, że ze względu na stężenie metali, punkty poboru próbek można podzielić na dwie grupy: leżące poza dawnym nurtem rzeki Raby (niższe stężenia metali ciężkich) oraz usytuowane w dawnym nurcie rzeki (wyższe stężenia). Odpowiada to zmieniającym się właściwościom sorpcyjnym osadów, zależnym m.in. od uziarnienia, składu chemicznego i mineralnego oraz zawartości materii organicznej. Zastosowanie metody PIXE umożliwiło wykonanie wielopierwiastkowej analizy składu bez wstępnej procedury przygotowania próbek, z wystarczającą czułością oznaczeń, lecz mniejszą precyzją niż metoda ASA. Metody te mogą być komplementarne z punktu widzenia potrzeb analiz środowiskowych.
Sediments constitute important part of water systems, accumulating mineral compounds, such as heavy metals. Dobczyce Reservoir, being the main drinking water source for the city of Krakow, is important from the economical point of view. In the present research, analysis of elemental composition of sediment samples (upper 10 cm layer) in 17 sampling points was performed. It enabled us to analyse distribution of analysis of elements in Dobczyce Reservoir and to assess what factors influenced that distribution. The analysis was carried out by means of two instrumental methods, namely PIXE and ASA. Based on the statistical analysis of the results, it was found that all the sampling points could be divided into two groups – one situated out of the Raba river current (characterized by lower concentration of elements) and the other along the river current (higher concentration of elements). Such a division results from the differences in chemical and mineralogical composition of sediments as well as from their organic matter content and physical properties. The use of PIXE method makes it possible to analyze sediments in a multielemental mode without sample pretreatment, obtaining satisfactory sensitivity but less precision than with the use of AAS method. Both methods could be considered as complementary in environmental analysis.

Opis:
West Nile virus (WNV), the etiologic agent of West Nile Fever (WNF), an emerging infectious disease that lately has been rapidly extending its range of occurrence from Africa to Middle East, and to Asia and Southern Europe. In Europe, cases of isolating WNV from mosquitoes representing four genera have been reported from Romania, Portugal, France, southern Russia and what is the most important, from Poland’s neighbouring countries as the Czech Republic, Slovakia and southern Ukraine. These data, as well as human and equine cases in the Czech Republic and Belarus, support hypothesis that WNV has already been present also in Poland, the more so, specific antibodies were detected in the sera of birds collected at the Kampinos and Bialowieza Primeval Forests and in human from the vicinity of Bialystok. Mosquitoes were collected in 2004–2009 at indoor and outdoor collection sites in districts: Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Mazowieckie, Podlaskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie. In total 15400 female mosquitoes were collected in the cow sheds and overwintering in the cellars, and from human bait and CO2 traps. Mosquitoes were sorted by the collecting site, species and sex, and placed in pools of not in more than 50 specimens in special mixture of phenol and chaotropic salts and frozen in –20°C. Altogether, 15400 females were examined. Total RNA were extracted according to protocol of A&A Biotechnology. RT reaction was performed with random primers and 217-nucleotide fragment from the NS5 coding sequence was amplified by heminested PCR. PCR products were analysed on 1.5% agarose gel. The predominant species was Culex pipiens, accounting for over 42% of total insects collection. All obtained results were negative. Further investigations are needed.
