The aim of this study was to assess whether the serum levels of the 7S fragment of type IV collagen may aid in diagnosing liver fibrosis in dogs. The study was carried out on 20 dogs with liver disease. Serum levels of the 7S fragment of type IV collagen were measured in all dogs. The analysis showed that healthy dogs and dogs with type 1, 2 and 3 liver fibrosis had low serum concentrations of the 7S fragment of type IV collagen compared to dogs with type 4 liver fibrosis. The study revealed that the assessment of serum levels of the 7S fragment of type IV collagen is useful in the diagnosis of advanced liver fibrosis and cirrhosis.

Opis:
Shear wave elastography is a novel technique enabling real-time measurement of the elasticity of liver tissue. The color map is superimposed on the classic ultrasound image of the assessed tissue, which enables a precise evaluation of the stiffness of the liver tissue. The aim of the study was to assess the stiffness of normal liver tissue in the guinea pig using shear wave elastography. The study was carried out on 36 guinea pigs using the SuperSonic Imagine Aixplorer scanner, and a 1 to 6 MH convex SC6-1 transducer. An ultrasound guided Try-Cut liver core needle biopsy was carried out in all the studied animals and the collected samples were examined to exclude pathological lesions. The mean liver tissue stiffness ranged from 0.89 to 5.40 kPa. We found that shear wave elastography is an easy, non-invasive technique that can be used to assess the stiffness of liver tissue. The obtained results can be used in future studies to assess the types and changes of liver tissue in the course of various types of liver disease.

The aim of the study was to assess pH, pO2 and pCO2 in peritoneal fluid. The study was conducted on a group of 22 dogs with symptoms of ascites. Group 1 consisted of 4 dogs with adenocarcinoma, group 2 – of 6 dogs with glomerulonephritis, group 3 of 8 dogs with hepatic cirrhosis and group 4 of 4 dogs with bacterial peritonitis. An abdominal cavity puncture was performed in all dogs and the fluid was drawn into a heparinized syringe in order to assess pH, pO2 and pCO2. The analysis of pH in the peritoneal fluid revealed statistically significant differences between group 4 and groups 1 (p=0.01), 2 (p=0.01), and 3 (p=0.01). The lowest pH value compared to the other studied groups was recorded in group 4. In group 4, the pO2 was the lowest compared to the other groups (group 1 p=0.01, group 2 p=0.01, group 3 p=0.01). The value of pCO2 was the highest in group 4 compared to groups 1, 2, and 3. The study found statistically significant differences in pH, pO2 and pCO2 between group 4 (the group of dogs with bacterial peritonitis) and the other groups of dogs. This was probably linked to the pathogenesis of peritonitis. As a result of an inflammatory reaction within the peritoneal cavity, there is an increase in fibrin accumulations leading to a decreased oxygen supply causing the oxidative glucose metabolism to change into a non-oxidative glucose metabolism. This, in turn, causes a decrease in pH, acidosis, and a low oxidoreduction potential. It also impairs phagocytosis and activates proteolytic enzymes which create ideal conditions for the growth of anaerobic bacteria. The obtained results indicate that the pH, pO2 and pCO2 may be used to differentiate bacterial peritonitis from ascites of other etiologies.

Analiza zdjęć wielospektralnych sprowadza się często do modelowania matematycznego opartego o wielowymiarowe przestrzenie metryczne, w których umieszcza się pozyskane za pomocą sensorów dane. Tego typu bardzo intuicyjne, łatwe do zaaplikowania w algorytmice analizy obrazu postępowanie może skutkować zupełnie niepotrzebnym wzrostem niezbędnej do analiz zdjęć mocy obliczeniowej. Jedną z ogólnie przyjętych grup metod analizy zbiorów danych tego typu są metody analizy czynnikowej. Wpracy tej prezentujemy dwie z nich: Principal Component Analysis (PCA) oraz Simplex Shrink-Wrapping (SSW). Użyte jednocześnie obniżają znacząco wymiar zadanej przestrzeni metrycznej pozwalając odnaleźć w danych wielospektralnych charakterystyczne składowe, czyli przeprowadzić cały proces detekcji fotografowanych obiektów. W roku 2014 w Pracowni Przetwarzania Danych Instytutu Lotnictwa oraz Zakładzie Ochrony Lasu Instytutu Badawczego Leśnictwa metodykę tą równie skutecznie przyjęto dla analizy dwóch niezwykle różnych serii zdjęć wielospektralnych: detekcji głównych składowych powierzchni Marsa (na podstawie zdjęć wielospektralnych pozyskanych w ramach misji EPOXI, NASA) oraz oszacowania bioróżnorodności jednej z leśnych powierzchni badawczych projektu HESOFF.
Mostly, analysis of multispectral images employs mathematical modeling based on multidimensional metric spaces that includes collected by the sensors data. Such an intuitive approach easily applicable to image analysis applications can result in unnecessary computing power increase required by this analysis. One of the groups of generally accepted methods of analysis of data sets are factor analysis methods. Two such factor analysis methods are presented in this paper, i.e. Principal Component Analysis (PCA ) and Simplex Shrink - Wrapping (SSW). If they are used together dimensions of a metric space can be reduced significantly allowing characteristic components to be found in multispectral data, i.e. to carry out the whole detection process of investigated images. In 2014 such methodology was adopted by Data Processing Department of the Institute of Aviation and Division of Forest Protection of Forest Research Institute for the analysis of the two very different series of multispectral images: detection of major components of the Mars surface (based on multispectral images obtained from the epoxy mission, NASA) and biodiversity estimation of one of the investigated in the HESOFF project forest complexes.

Przedstawiono stan nasycenia i przestrzennego zróżnicowania elementów infrastruktury technicznej na obszarach wiejskich powiatów sępoleńskiego i nakielskiego. Przeprowadzone badania ukazały obszary niedoinwestowania infrastrukturalnego oraz tereny o dobrze rozwiniętej sieci wodno-kanalizacyjnej.
The paper presents saturation and spatial diversity of technical infrastructure elements (water supply and sewerage networks) on rural areas of Sêpólno and Nakło districts. Research revealed areas of under-development of the infrastructure and areas that have well developed water supply and sewerage networks. It was indicated that technical infrastructure is better developed in Sêpólno district than in Nakło district.

W artykule przedstawiono zasadę działania Specjalistycznego Systemu Pomiaru Tekstury TMS-Pro, jego możliwości oraz metodę prowadzenia badań za pomocą tego przyrządu. Opis metody poparto przykładem analiz prowadzonych na mięsie drobiowym w Katedrze Procesów i Urządzeń Przemysłu Spożywczego Politechniki Koszalińskiej. Metody instrumentalne badań tekstury produktów spożywczych są coraz szerzej stosowane w przemyśle spożywczym, jako tania i efektywna alternatywa dla metod organoleptycznych.
A working principle, capabilities and research method using the Texture Measurement System Pro (TMS-Pro) were introduced in the article. The system is using to an instrumental analysis of food product texture, but it can be used for the plastic material analysis too. Due to a great diversity of the easily exchangeable working items (fixtures and force transducers), a range of possible analyses to be carried out is very wide. Instrumental research methods of food product texture are using more widely in food industry, because it is a cheap and effective alternative for the organoleptic methods. In the article introduction, the texture products definitions, analysis methods and the fundamental distinguishing textures according to the standard ISO 5492:1997 were brought closer. In the following article, sections the construction of the bench TMS-Pro, the analyser construction, its technical parameters and possible applications were described. The possibilities of operating system software were brought closer. In the next part of the article the analysis methodology with the TMS-Pro application was described step by step. A description of this method is supported by an example of chicken meat analysis carried out in Food Industry Processes and Facilities Chair, Mechanical Engineering Faculty at Koszalin University of Technology. Conclusions and bibliography were enclosed at the end of the paper.

The present article discusses the role of antioxidants in foods of their natural sources of beneficial properties, and posed for the proper functioning of the human body. It also presents the breakdown of antioxidants. Much attention has been focused on the description of flavonoids – antioxidants exhibiting high antioxidant properties of naturally occurring in food. This article aims to approximate the antioxidants found in food products and the distribution of the benefits that entails for the proper functioning of the body.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the usefulness of elastography in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant tumours of the mammary gland in dogs. The study was performed to 12 female dogs of different breeds aged 5-12 years in which tumoral lesions of the mammary gland were found in the clinical examination. In all the animals elastographic examination of the lesions was carried out and then the fine-needle aspiration biopsy was performed to determine the nature and degree of malignancy of the lesions. The examinations proved that benign neoplasms of the mammary gland showed low stiffness (average 22.42 kPa, range 19 to 42.4 kPa), whereas malignant neoplasms were characterized by high stiffness (average 235.44 kPa, range 171 to 300 kPa). On the basis of the results obtained we conclude that the elastography of proliferative lesions of the mammary gland is a useful diagnostic method for distinguishing benign neoplastic lesions from malignant neoplasms.

Opis:
The paper presents the method of manufacturing casts made of the IN-713C nickel superalloy using the wax lost investment casting process and silicon carbide chills. The authors designed experimental casts, the gating system and selected the chills material. Wax pattern, ceramic shell mould and experimental casts were prepared for the purposes of research. On the basis of the temperature distribution measurements, the kinetics of the solidification process was determined in the thickened part of the plate cast. This allowed to establish the quantity of phase transitions which occurred during cast cooling process and the approximate values of liquidus, eutectic, solidus and solvus temperatures as well as the solidification time and the average value of cast cooling rate. Non-destructive testing and macroscopic analysis were applied to determine the location and size of shrinkage defects. The authors present the mechanism of solidification and formation of shrinkage defects in casts with and without chills. It was found that the applied chills influence significantly the hot spots and the remaining part of the cast. Their presence allows to create conditions for solidification of IN-713C nickel superalloy cast without shrinkage defects.

A modification of Mach-Zehnder interferometer is proposed. It is shown that by introducing an additional time dependent phase shift in one of the interferometer arms, its sensitivity may be significantly increased. The method is applied to measure the quadratic electrooptic effect in transformer oil.
Zaproponowano metodę pomiaru kwadratowego efektu elektrooptycznego w cieczach przy wykorzystaniu interferometru Macha-Zehndera. Pokazano, że dodatkowa modulacja fazy w jednym z ramion interferometru znacząco zwiększa czułość pomiaru. Metodę zastosowano do pomiaru składowych tensora kwadratowego efektu elektrooptycznego w oleju transformatorowym.
