Opis:
In this note the ratio of the second to the first order reflection is determined for the KAP and PbSt crystals, for wavelengths corresponding to the Al K-line emission. The source of the radiation was a low-voltage stabilized X-ray tube. The X-rays were detected with a Bragg spectrometer equipped with a proportional counter detector. The signal measured by the proportional counter was subsequently pulse height analyzed.

Opis:
Wall-stabilized arcs are commonly used as excitation sources of atoms and low charged ions. Distributions of plasma parameters in the gap between two subsequent stabilizing plates were studied in argon and helium which are commonly used as 'working gas' in experiments aimed at determination of atomic constants. The results were obtained solving set of equations describing plasma in local thermal equilibrium (LTE). As conditions of LTE may be not completely fulfilled obtained absolute values obtained by this method could be deviated from the real one. Nevertheless, the shape of spatial plasma parameters distributions ought to properly represent shape of the plasma. Obtained results reveal very small gradients of plasma parameters in the central part of this gap. This result can be important in future planning of experiments with side-on plasma observation.

Opis:
As plasma impurity ions can significantly influence the properties of a fusion plasma by dilution and enhancement of the radiation losses, the process of monitoring of their concentrations is one of the most important tasks. A Light Impurity Monitor is needed for monitoring the contamination of the stellarator plasma by carbon, nitrogen, boron, and oxygen impurities, which are indicators for the overload of the plasma facing components, leakage of the vacuum vessel, or wall condition, respectively. Their concentration will be estimated on the basis of emission intensities of their hydrogen-like ions. In this paper a conceptual design of such a spectrometer is presented, including the description of the geometry, the acquisition system and safety systems.

dielectric barrier discharge (DBD)

fusion plasma
Opis:
Controlled fusion based on the magnetic confinement of the plasma is one of the main aims of the Eurofusion programme. In the fusion device, the hydrogen isotopes, in nuclear reactions, will produce helium nuclei. The products, as the ash, will be removed from the plasma in the region of the so-called divertor. Controlling the helium to hydrogen ratio in this ‘exhaust gas’ will provide information about the efficiency of the fusion process as well as of the efficiency of the helium removal system. One of the methods to perform this task is to study the properties of the discharge conducted in such exhaust gas. In this paper, the applicability of the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is studied. This preliminary experiment shows a great potential in applicability of this kind of discharge. The optical as well as pulse-height spectra were studied, both revealing very promising properties. In the optical spectrum, one can observe well separated hydrogen and helium spectral lines, with intensities of the same order of magnitude. Moreover, in the registered spectral region, the molecular spectra are negligible. The pulse-height spectra reveal very distinct shape in helium and hydrogen. Checking of this spectrum could provide parallel (redundant) information about the partial pressure of helium in the magnetic confinement fusion (MCF) device exhaust gas.

Opis:
In a wall-stabilized cascade arc at atmospheric pressure in mixtures of argon and bromine vapors thermal plasmas were generated. Arc currents between 25 and 60 A were used. Applying a spectrometer of medium dispersion, equipped with an optical multichannel analyzer (CCD detector), the spectra of neutral and singly ionized bromine in the range between 3300 and 10400 Å were recorded. Line intensity measurements, corrected for self-absorption, at different operating conditions of the arc, were performed. A complete set of Br I transitions (5 lines) originating from a common upper level (branching fractions) was measured. In the case of the Br II spectrum intensities of 14 lines were determined. Both sets of lines (Br I and Br II) were normalized to an absolute scale using appropriate lifetime values. The uncertainties of the new determined transition probabilities depend mainly on the uncertainties of the lifetime data taken from the literature. The results are compared to other experimental data. Discrepancies are found to be outside of uncertainties of the measurements.

Opis:
The paper presents results of studies on the antiproliferative effect of Selol 5% on HeLa tumour cells, as compared to sodium selenite. Based on the results of the MTT test, determination of total protein, apoptosis induction and penetration of selenium into the cells, an incubation time-dependent cytotoxic activity of Selol was established (IC50 ∼80 μM Se, 48 h), and compared to the strong cytotoxic activity of sodium selenite (IC50 ∼ 5,9 μM Se, 24 h). Slow penetration of selenium from Selol into the tumour cell, responsible for the prolonged time of its activity, enables potential application of Selol in antitumour therapy.
