    The aim of this work is to present a general overview of social structure of the Tartessian community in Setefilla at the beginning of the Iron Age. The methodology is based on inductive approach, particularly on statistical and spatial analysis. Substantial research has been carried out on archaeological and anthropological data in order to determine indicators of sex and age. By using the achievements of postprocessual archaeology, I demonstrate the role of rituals and human body in creating social relations. It is argued that the traditional ties of consanguinity have been distorted by new social values built on individualism.

    Polish Mediterranean archeology has been known almost exclusively for investigations carried out in the eastern Mediterranean. The aim of the article is to present research and teaching initiatives that have been undertaken by the researchers from Poznań within the western Mediterranean for the last ninety years. For the purpose, the basic research method has been to analyze the intellectual output in form of academic thesis, monographs and articles. The library exchange, the student participation in the western Mediterranean excavations, and the classes given in the field of Mediterranean archeology have been also analyzed.As a result, a growing interest in the archaeology of the western part of the Mediterranean in the academic community associated with the Institute of Prehistory, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań has been observed, and thus detailed reasons why research in the area should be developed were listed.

    This paper presents the results of the XRF, formal and stylistic analyses of a black-glaze fish-plate from the National Museum in Poznań. A non-invasive portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (pXRF) has been used to determine the chemical composition of the plate. Analysis of the shape and decoration provided data on the chronology, typology and provenance of the vessel. The obtained results were used to determine the possible region of the fish-plate’s production. The form of the fish-plate represents features characteristic for the early stage of Italian black-glaze production, which is combination of Athenian traditions with new solutions in terms of proportion and shape. The analysis of X-ray fluorescence spectrometry data and comparative studies with already known results of the Italian black glaze pottery chemical analyses allowed the fish-plate to be identified as an example of the Campania A group from ancient Naples workshops, dated to the second half of the 4th century BC.

    This paper presents results of the spectrometric analyses of two Phoenician jugs from the Gołuchów collection. A non-invasive portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (pXRF) has been used to determine the chemical composition of the jugs. The aim of this work was to add new results to a database of spectrometric data of Phoenician pottery from central and western Mediterranean. Good agreement obtained between the chemical results of the two jugs suggest  that they could have been made from the same clay.
