Opis:
The Sonar Performance Prediction System (SPPS) will be introduced. The SPPS is an integrated ocean-acoustic propagation model coupled with a sonar performance prediction model. A stationary sea surveillance sonar consisting of a horizontally nested hydrophone array and a vertical transmitting/receiving array may be used to detect, localisc and track surface and subsurface contacts within its coverage area. The performance of the sea surveillance sonar has been investigated with the SPPS. Results of that performance prediction will be presented.

Opis:
The main objective of a sea surveillance sonar is the surveillance of marine activities below the waterline in selected areas lite coasts, waterways, naval bases and oil platforms. The sea surveillance sonar can prove to be extremely beneficial in countering illegal activities that can strain a nation's economy. These activities include sabofage, piratism, terrorism, smuggling and illegal immigration. A combined sonar consisting of a low frequency passive system and a high frequency active system can be used to detect, track and classify all subsurface contacts lite submarines, divers and diver delivery vehicles within its assigned coverage area. In case of silent submarines a vertical transmitting array is supporting the detection of these targets in the law frequency range. The system is of a flexible open architecture so that it can easily be tailored too local needs. As operational support a sonar performance prediction system is integrated. The system has been tested. Experimental result will be shown.

Opis:
NMR relaxometry is a suitable tool to determine the morphology of semi-crystalline polymers by its ability to discriminate between rigid, mostly crystalline and soft, usually amorphous material. The NMR-MOUSE$\text{}^{®}$ (nuclear magnetic resonance mobile universal surface explorer) was explored in this work to supply morphological data of poly(ethylene) pipes nondestructively. PE-100 pipes were investigated in the new state, after squeezing them flat, and after annealing well below the glass temperature. Furthermore, the change in morphology induced by a pressure load from the inside and a point load from the outside was investigated as a function of depth, and the morphology change across a welding line was imaged. A shear-band was detected by destructive high-field NMR imaging in an area of severe deformation of a pipe, where an anomalous depths profile was observed by the NMR-MOUSE. These results demonstrate that the NMR-MOUSE is a suitable tool for non-destructive state assessment of polymer pipes on the basis of laboratory reference data.

Opis:
We present high temperature dc, ac and contactless microwave conductivity results on solid-state C$\text{}_{60}$ (films and crystals) from room temperature up to 850 K. Heating pristine samples, which were exposed to the ambient atmosphere, under dynamic vacuum at first leads to a reduction of the electrical resistance and finally, above ≈700 K, to an increase in the resistance. The decrease is ascribed to oxygen desorption and the increase to the chemical reactivity of residual chemisorbed oxygen with the C$\text{}_{60}$ host molecules, respectively. Samples, annealed above 800 K, display a reversible temperature dependence of the resistance. The high temperature regime of their resistance exhibits an activated behaviour with an universal activation energy of 2E$\text{}_{a}$ = 1.85 ± 0.04 eV for crystals and films, which is identical to the HOMO-LUMO splitting of the C$\text{}_{60}$-molecules.
