This article offers a proposal for using film as supplements for future therapists’ education in respect of the social construction of their relations with patients. A film pedagogy proves indispensable in a pandemic situation, when empirical therapeutic practice becomes impossible. The analysis refers to the concepts of pedagogy of cinema and mediated experience and points to a proposal of an exemplification of their functioning in the form of a selected cinematic picture (“Three Christs”, 2017), based on an actual psychotherapeutical experiment undertaken by Milton Rokeach at the Ypsilanti clinic.

A child is endowed with a natural inclination to manifest its feelings, to control things and ideas in the form of behaviour which could be an expression of various fine arts. Each element of art (music, dancing as a system of signs may change its code, as the same symbols may be conveyed in another semiotic code, for example: a system of sounds in kinetic-spatial exemplification. Listening to music (acoustic signs) is in this play transcoded into kinetic-bodily signs. Experiencing oneself by means of movement, creating an individual story about oneself through gesture activates the subconscious, facilitates visualizing past experiences, feeling them again, and analyzing. The present study focuses on the connection between the classes devoted to kinesthetic visualization and the motoric behaviour presented by a child displaying the level of its creativity. The text presents individualizing experimental tests carried out in a group of five-year-old children.

Artykuł podejmuje próbę skonstruowania autorskiego narzędzia deskrypcji dziecięcego procesu tworzenia dzieła plastycznego oraz oceny finalnego efektu tego procesu, jakim jest wytwór wizualny. Poszukiwanie sposobów poznawania dziecka jest jednym z zasadniczych wyzwań współczesnej pedagogiki wczesnoszkolnej, zwłaszcza kiedy podejmujemy kwestie wsparcia rozwoju najmłodszych o specjalnych potrzebach edukacyjnych. Wymiar terapii implikuje bowiem konieczność dogłębnej diagnozy wychowanka, przy czym w tym kontekście istotny jest każdy przejaw jego funkcjonowania, w tym także ekspresja estetyczna. W części pierwszej Autorka skupia się przede wszystkim na wyjaśnieniu, czym jest ekspresja, zwłaszcza emocjonalna, będąca podstawą działań arteterapeutycznych. Dokonuje również przeglądu opracowań dotyczących terapii ekspresyjnej. Zaprezentowane narzędzie deskrypcji dziecięcego procesu tworzenia dzieła plastycznego jest propozycją zapisu danych potrzebnych do postawienia diagnozy. Artykuł jest adresowany przede wszystkim do wykwalifikowanych terapeutów, jest też głosem w dyskusji na temat kompetencji diagnostycznych nauczycieli i pedagogów szkolnych pracujących z dziećmi, których jedną z form ekspresji jest ekspresja artystyczna.
The article attempts to design a proprietary tool to describe the child’s process of creating a work of art and to assess the final effect of this process, namely the visual product. Finding methods of understanding the child is one of the basic challenges of modern early school pedagogy, especially when the issues of support for the development of the youngest are tackled together with those with special educational needs. The dimension of therapy implies the necessity of in-depth diagnosis of the child, with every aspect of his or her functioning being important in this context, including aesthetic expression. In the first part, the author concentrates primarily on an explanation of what expression means, especially in the emotional terms which appear fundamental for art therapeutic activities. The author also makes an overview of issues on expressive therapy. The tool for the description of a child’s art creation process presented proposes the data record needed in order to make a diagnosis. The article is addressed primarily to qualified therapists. It is also a voice in the discussion on the diagnostic competences of teachers and school pedagogues who work with children whose main form of expression is the artistic.

The article presents the results of an Internet questionnaire examining high school graduates’ (general education high schools and technical high schools) perceptions on aesthetical and cultural education in the institutional context. The study was based on students’ narratives gathered by means of a purpose- designed interview questionnaire using the methodology of interpretive anthropology in relation to the perspective of an ‘insider’ or a ‘local’. The results were further organised accordingly with the strategy of horizonalisation, which made it possible to construct a model encompassing all the participants’ contributions.

This article presents influencing with art1 and influencing through art2 aiming at the creation of situations which support the potential of individuals, especially in the case of children from backgrounds with ineffective parenting. Children from such backgrounds participated in an arts therapy project which aimed to facilitate creative activity through the preparation of a theatre show. Children’s cognitive, psychological and emotional needs are important, which is why the satisfaction of these needs was also an aim, as it was found that these needs were not being satisfied in the children’s culturally deprived environment. Influencing through art (in this case - a performing art) can very well serve the satisfaction of individual needs related to self-identification and self-definition (Bauman, 2010). From this point on, it is a straight road to influencing individuals’ self-esteem.

The article presents a concept of including child expression, especially the one focused on bodily activity, in activities addressed to pupils of kindergarten and of grades 1–3 of primary school. The text begins with an outline of Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s idea of embodied subjectivity, and concludes with the characteristics of research conducted in the Department of Early Childhood Education and Media Pedagogy at the University of Silesia in Katowice. In addition, the article describes specific initiatives that have been launched in the Department, such as the creation of the Children’s Expression Centre and the organisation of Polish Expression Festivals in Katowice.
Der Beitrag präsentiert die Idee, die besonders auf körperliche Aktivität fokussierte, kindliche Expression in die an Schüler der I.–III. Klasse der Grundschule und Kindergartenkinder gerichteten Maßnahmen einzubeziehen. Dem die Charakteristik eigener Forschungen der Verfasserin in dem Lehrstuhl für frühkindliche Bildung und Medienpädagogik der Schlesischen Universität in Katowice darstellenden Text liegt Maurice Merleau- Pontys Idee der leiblichen Expression zugrunde. Es werden hier überdies geschildert: die im Lehrstuhl umgesetzten besonderen Vorhaben, die Gründung des Zentrums für kindliche Expression und Veranstaltung Gesamtpolnischer Festspiele der Expression in Katowice.

Celem artykułu jest wskazanie na możliwości omawiania typów relacji terapeutycznej ze studentami arteterapii w oparciu o specjalnie dobrany materiał filmowy. Materiały i metody. W tekście zastosowano analizę hermeneutyczną narracji filmowej. Wyniki. Artykuł ukazuje potencjalną strategię wykorzystania dzieł kinowych w kształceniu terapeutów.
Introduction. The article presents a proposal for introducing fi ction fi lms as complementary to future therapists’ tertiary education with respect to building a relationship with their patients. The analysis references the idea of cinema pedagogy and features exemplifi cation of its application based on two films: My Left Foot and Three Christs. Aim. The purpose of the article is to indicate the possibility of types of therapeutic relationships being discussed with art therapy students based on specially selected cinematic material. Materials and methods. The text applies hermeneutical analysis to a film narrative. Results. The article shows a potential strategy of using cinematic works in therapists’ education.

Głównym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie dwóch sylwetek sawantów, będących z jednej strony osobistościami świata nauki, a z drugiej osobami borykającymi się z zaburzeniami neurorozwojowymi i schizofrenią. Są to postaci Temple Grandin i Johna Nasha. Stały się one również inspiracją dla twórców dwóch filmów fabularnych, które weszły już do kanonu kinematografii, były też wielokrotnie nagradzane, także za kreacje protagonistów, doskonale portretując nie-neurotypowych geniuszy. Hermeneutyczna analiza tych obrazów kinowych ma na celu ukazanie specyfiki funkcjonowania prodigious savant ze zwróceniem szczególnej uwagi na rolę najbliższego otoczenia w budowaniu sprzyjających warunków dla rozwoju ich szczególnych talentów.
The main aim of this article is to present two stories of savant figures who have been, on the one hand, significant personalities in the world of science and, on the other hand, have struggled with neurodevelopmental disorders and schizophrenia. These figures are Temple Grandin and John Nash. Their stories have also inspired the filmmakers of two films which have already become part of the cinematic canon and won multiple accolades, including awards for the main actors who created brilliant portraits of the neurodivergent geniuses. The hermeneutical analysis of these motion pictures is aimed at showing the specific ways in which the prodigious savants function, with particular focus on the role played by the closest social environment in creating conditions beneficial for the development of their special talents.

Ernsta Moritza Arndta w Greifswaldzie; 6) Akademia Bałtycka w Lubece-Travemünde; 7) Europejska Akademia Meklenburgii/Pomorza Przedniego; 8) Fundacja Konrada Adenauera, filia w Rostoku, Niemiecki Parlamentem Deutscher Bundestag w Bonn i Berlinie; 9) Teatr Gripstheater w Berlinie, Teatr Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt; 10) Muzeum Krajoznawcze im. Ehma Welka w Angermünde; 11)Wkrzańskie Towarzystwo Literackie w Angermünde. Opisane są również wyprawy studyjne do Niemiec Północnych śladami pisarzy niemieckich. Te wszystkie aktywności ujęte są w szerszym kontekście rozwoju Instytutu, który jest tłem tych opisów i analiz. Swoją systemowością rozszerzyły one regionalistyczne spektrum oddziaływania nie tylko na całą Alma Mater Stetinensis, Euroregion Pomerania, ale również na dalszych zaodrzańskich partnerów z Meklenburgii/Pomorza Przedniego, Meklenburgii oraz Szlezwiku-Holsztynu. Poczynania te były nowatorskie nie tylko w odniesieniu do transgranicznych kontaktów, ale również w skali ogólnopolskiej germanistyki.
This text is the first part of the report on the mandate activities of Dr. Andrzej Talarczyk, the coordinator at the Institute of German Philology at the University of Szczecin in the field of cooperation with academic and non-academic institutions in Germany. It covers the entire period of the existence of this organisational unit, i.e. the years 1985–2019 and the first academic year of the work of the newly established Institute of Literature and New Media. The description of this part concerns the following institutions: (1) German Embassy in Warsaw, (2) University of Rostock, (3) Sankelmark Academy in Oeversee, (4) Christian Albrechts University in Kiel, (5) University of Leipzig, (6) University of Greifswald, (7) Ostsee Academy in Lübeck-Travemünde, (8) European Academy Mecklenburg/Vorpommern in Waren, (9) Konrad Adenauer Foundation, branch in Rostock, (10) Grips-Theatre in Berlin, (11) Theatre Uckermärkische Bühnen in Schwedt, (12) Ehm Welk and Local History Museum in Angermünde, (13) Uckermärkische Literaturgesellschaft in Angermünde, (14) Academia Baltica in Oeversee, (15) Visitor Service of the German Bundestag in Bonn and Berlin (16), Euroregion in Szczecin. Study trips to northern Germany in the footsteps of German writers are also described. All these activities are presented in a wider context of the Institute’s development which forms a background to these descriptions and analyses. With their systemic nature, they extended the regionalist spectrum of impact not only to the whole Alma Mater Stetinensis, Euroregion Pomerania, but also to the other partners beyond the Oder – from Mecklenburg/Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein. These projects were innovative not only in terms of cross-border contacts, but also in terms of German studies in Poland as a whole.

Andrzeja Talarczyka, koordynatora w Instytucie Filologii Germańskiej US w zakresie współpracy z instytucjami akademickimi i nieakademickimi w Niemczech. Obejmuje ono (w kontynuacji chronologicznej) kolejne obszary jego działalności organizacyjnej, dydaktycznej oraz naukowej, uporządkowane według następującej struktury tematycznej: 1) posłannictwo wykładów profesorów wizytujących, 2) nowe umowy w ramach programu Sokrates/Erasmus, 3) polsko-niemiecko-skandynawskie regionalistyczne konferencje naukowe, 4) Nowa Marchia – Terra incognita? – powstanie nowej polsko-niemieckiej serii wydawniczej „Badania Nowomarchijskie/Neumärkische Forschungen”. Również tutaj te wszystkie aktywności ujęte są w szerszym kontekście rozwoju Instytutu, w tym powstania w 2015 r. – jako wynik wspólnej działalności piszącej te słowa z dr. Andrzejem Talarczykiem – Zakładu Literaturo- znawstwa Porównawczego, który to rozwój jest tłem opisów i analiz. Swoją systemowością działania, wyrażającą się m.in. stopniowym przechodzeniem do coraz to nowej jakości współpracy transgranicznej, działalność dr. Talarczyka rozszerzyła również regionalistyczne spektrum oddziaływania. Ilustruje to najdobitniej trwająca ponad 20 lat współpraca z Akademią Bałtycką w Travemünde (Lubece) – od polsko-niemieckich podróży studyjnych po Pomorzu Zachodnim do wspólnych polsko-niemiecko-skandynawskich regionalistycznych konferencji naukowych z ich dalszym rozwinięciem w formie powstania serii wydawniczej w Wydawnictwie Naukowym US „Badania Nowomarchijskie/ Neumärkische Forschungen” wraz z ukonstytuowaniem przy niej wydawniczej Rady Naukowej, we współpracy z którą powstały projekty edycji kolejnych 10 tomów tej serii. Jest to uwieńczenie jego interdyscyplinarnej działalności, ponieważ w skład Rady Naukowej wchodzą m.in. jego profesorowie wizytujący, pracujący dydaktycznie i naukowo w najbardziej dynamicznie rozwijającym się w strukturze IFG Zakładzie Literaturoznawstwa Porównawczego. To uwieńczenie jest kolejną nową jakością w historii IFG i dopełnia działalność naukową dr. Talarczyka, który przeprowadził – jak wynika z przedstawionych w tym dwuczęściowym tekście zestawień – łącznie dziewięć międzynarodowych konferencji naukowych i opublikował ponad 60 publikacji, w tym dziewięć edycji książkowych, z których jedna monografia (na bazie dysertacji doktorskiej) otrzymała ministerialną nagrodę naukową III stopnia. Jest to w zakresie literaturoznawstwa w historii IFG jedno z największych osiągnięć. To wszystko oznaczało w edukacji akademickiej wychodzenie naprzeciw obecnie praktykowanemu nauczaniu, opartemu na metodologii badań regionalistycznych, określanemu w krajach anglosaskich terminem area studies i uzasadnia użycie w tym kontekście określenia „szczecińskiego modelu germanistyki kulturowego pogranicza”.
This text is the second part of the report on the mandate and work of Dr. Andrzej Talarczyk, coordinator at the Institute of German Philology at the University of Szczecin for cooper- ation with academic and non-academic institutions in Germany. It includes further areas of his organizational, teaching and research work according to the following subjects, in chronological order: (1) The message and mission of lectures, (2) New arrangements within the Socrates/Erasmus program, (3) Polish-German-Nordic regionalist academic con- ferences, (4) The Neumark / Terra incognita research project with the emergence of a new Polish-German book series “Badania Nowomarchijskie / Neumärkische Forschungen” (Neumark research). All these activities are embedded in the broader context of the Institute’s development. His engagement and joint efforts include support for the foundation of Chair of Compara- tive Literature. The work and development of this Chair form the background for the fol- lowing descriptions and analyses. With its systemic approach expressed, among other things, in the gradual transition to more and higher quality cross-border cooperation, work in the field of regional studies has continued to develop and expand thematically. This is most clearly illustrated by the cooperation with the Ostsee Academy in Lübeck-Travemünde which has lasted over 20 years – from Polish-German study trips through West Pomera- nia to joint Polish-German-Nordic (Scandinavian) regionalist academic conferences and the development of a series of books “Badania Nowomarchijskie / Neumärkische Forschun- gen”, published by the Szczecin University Press under his leadership. This resulted in draft editions of the next 10 volumes in this series. This is the culmination of this interdisciplinary activity, as members of this Council are visiting professors who have worked in teaching and research in the most dynamically developing organizational structure at the Institute of German Philology: the Department of Comparative Literary Studies. Moreover, this milestone marks another new quality in the history of this institute, and it rounds up and completes the academic activity of Dr. Talarczyk, as can be seen from this two-part series. Dr. Talarczyk has organized 9 scientific conferences, numerous student study trips as well as weekend seminars. He published over 60 publications, including 9 book editions, one of which, an independent monograph based on his doctoral dissertation, received a 3rd degree ministerial academic award. This is one of the greatest achievements in Comparative Literature over the entire history of the Institute of German Philology. For all the activities and achievements in regional research (area studies) described in this two-part report, it is legitimate to apply the designation “Szczecin Model for German Studies of the Cultural Border Region”. This model (in this personnel constellation) also merits a certain pioneering role, not only in the regional context.

Artification occupies a specific place between art and non-art and is determined by giving a subjectively aesthetic meaning to the objects that previously had no such properties. We refer here explicitly to the studies and findings of Ellen Dissanayake and Ossi Naukkarinen. The study aimed to focus on the potential of artification at the end of one’s life, exemplified by reports of the qualitative study conducted in one of the hospices in Katowice, Poland. The psychological flexibility categories, extracted from artification activities, were used in this research.
