Introduction: Statistical data from the turn of the 20th century shows a significant increase in the average human life span and, what follows, an extension of old age. The world is aging and Poland has joined the list of countries which have been classified as demographically old since the rate at which society is aging has become very fast. Purpose: The aim of this thesis was to become familiar with the opinions submitted by respondents regarding aging and old age, health problems connected with aging and preferred health behaviors.Materials and methods: The research was conducted between January 3rd of 2013 and February 15th of 2014 on a group of 200 junior high school students and 200 university students from the Medical University of Białystok Faculty of Health Sciences using a questionnaire created by the authors.Results: A vast majority of the respondents of the study groups declared that they have thought about old age. Among university students this percentage reached 38.5%. Almost 50.0% of all respondents acknowledged that older people are needed by society.Conclusions: The results show that the aging process should be contemplated considering multiple aspects of life: biological, psychological and social. Moreover, youth education programs about seniors and old age as well as about ways to counteract their stigmatization should be introduced.

Opis:
Physical and mechanical properties of ceramic materials make them useful applications in both mechanical and medical engineering. This paper presents the technological system for precision machining of super hard ceramic materials. As an example of precisely processed ceramic components a circular / spherical element can be given, which was used in an endoprosthesis hip replacement. This paper presents selected characteristics of geometrical surface structure after precision machining and finishing and indicates directions for further research into the development of the technological qualities of ceramic components.
Materiały ceramiczne charakteryzują się właściwościami fizycznymi i mechanicznymi determinującymi ich zastosowanie zarówno w budowie maszyn, jak również w medycynie. W pracy przedstawiono system technologiczny do precyzyjnej obróbki trudnoobrabialnych materiałów ceramicznych. Podano przykłady elementów kulistych do zastosowania na endoprotezy stawu biodrowego. Określono wybrane charakterystyki struktury geometrycznej ich powierzchni po obróbce kształtującej i wykończeniowej. Wskazano kierunki dalszych badań z zakresu kształtowania jakości technologicznej elementów z materiałów ceramicznych.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of the tests performed during the grinding process of the ceramic materials: - polycrystalline ceramics (Zirconium ZrO2) and mono-crystalline ceramics (sapphire -Al2O3) by the diamond tools. Studies have shown that the concentration (thickening) of the tool composite changes the tool’s pore structure when using suitable wetted adamantine additives. Such modified composite has positive impact on tribological properties of the subsurface layer of the machined components. This is manifested by the reduction of the surface roughness and reduction of the vibration amplitude of the coefficient of friction. The possibilities of the positive effects when using wetted additives on the tool’s composite during the pressing (briquetting) stage confirm the study results.

Opis:
In this paper using scanning electron microscope, contactless microwave electronic transport and the Raman spectroscopy we studied the properties of graphene deposited on GaN nanowires and compared it with the graphene deposited on GaN epilayer. The Raman micro-mapping showed that nanowires locally change the strain and the concentration of carriers in graphene. Additionally we observed that nanowires increase the intensity of the Raman spectra by more than one order of magnitude.

Ze względu na unikatowy charakter krajobrazu, na obszarze Doliny Swędrni obowiązują dwie formy ochrony przyrody: obszar chronionego krajobrazu i obszar Natura 2000. Region stanowi wydzieloną jednostkę przestrzenną cechującą się istotnymi wartościami przyrodniczymi. Oprócz tego charakteryzuje się wartościami historyczno-kulturowymi. Występuje tam wiele stanowisk archeologicznych: historyczne formy budownictwa i obiekty rezydencjonalne, sakralne, budownictwo mieszkalne i produkcyjne. Wszystko to położone jest w bardzo dużej koncentracji, wzdłuż doliny Swędrni i Żabianki. W pobliżu Kamienia znajduje się krzyż z tablicą upamiętniającą miejsce mordu około 40 rannych powstańców styczniowych i opiekujących się nimi mieszkańców, dokonanego przez Kozaków carskich. W pobliżu leśniczówki Morawin umieszczono tablicę pamiątkową upamiętniającą poległych we wrześniu 1939r. żołnierzy polskich. W pobliżu doliny Swędrni w Lesie Skarszewskim 19 stycznia 1945r. okupant niemiecki rozstrzelał 56 żołnierzy Armii Krajowej.
Because of the unique character of its landscape the Swędrnia River Valley is protected by two forms of nature conservation: it is the area of protected landscape and it is the area of Natura 2000 legislation. The region is a designated area characterised by vital environmental values. It is also significant historically and culturally. There are a number of archaeological sites, including historic buildings, residential and sacral objects, and housing and industrial buildings, all of which are concentrated along the valley of the rivers Swędrnia and Żabianka Near Kamień there is a cross with a plaque commemorating the murder committed by the Tsarist Cossacks against about forty January Uprising insurgents and the local people who took care of them. In the vicinity of Morawin forester’s lodge there is a plaque commemo-rating Polish soldiers killed in 1939. Near the Swędrnia river valley in Skarszewski Forest fifty six Home Army soldiers were executed by a firing squad of German occupiers on the 19th of January 1945.

Kotlina Grabowska ukształtowana została przez rzeźbę zlodowacenia środkowopolskiego, poddaną następnie procesom denudacji i działalności wód rzecznych. Czynnikiem geologicznym i historycznym wspólnym dla opisywanego regionu jest rzeka Prosna, wzdłuż której pojawiło się najstarsze osadnictwo. Dominującymi formami powierzch-ni są tutaj terasy wymienionej rzeki. Na części obszaru zaplanowano budowę zbiornika retencyjnego Wielowieś Klasztorna, co spowoduje radykalne zmiany krajobrazowe tego atrakcyjnego pod względem przyrodniczym regionu. Dolina Prosny w epoce przedchrześcijańskiej była terenem intensywnego osadnictwa plemiennego, które wraz z umocnieniem się państwa Piastów uległo przekształceniu w osadnictwo grodowe. Rzeka Prosna po części swojej długości służyła jako drogowskaz „Szlaku Bursztynowego” dla kupców rzymskich, prowadzący do wybrzeży Bałtyku. W południowo – wschodniej Wielkopolsce istniały w miarę dogodne warunki dla prowadzenia przez dłuższy czas walk w trakcie trwania powsta-nia styczniowego. Tereny zaboru rosyjskiego od zachodu graniczyły z polskimi ziemiami pozostającymi pod zaborem pruskim. W 1939 r. w nocy z 3 na 4 września we wsi Mączniki żołnierze Wehrmachtu 24 niemieckiej dywizji zamordowali 17 niewinnych mieszkańców wsi Mączniki i Ostrowa Kaliskiego.
Grabów Valley was shaped by the Middle Polish Glaciation followed by the processes of denudation and river activities. The geological and historical factor common for the described region is the Prosna river, along the banks of which the oldest settlements appeared. The Prosna river terraces are the dominating forms of the landscape here. A retention reservoir ‘Wielowieś Klasztorna’ is to be built over a part of the area, which will cause radical land¬scape change of this environmentally interesting region. In the pre-Christian era the Prosna river valley was a site of intensive tribal settlement, which, after the strengthening of the Piast state, changed into town settlement. Along a part of its course the Prosna river served as a signpost of the Amber Trail for the Roman merchants leading them to the Baltic Sea coast. The south-eastern part of Greater Poland provided fairly suitable conditions to conduct and continue military activities during the January Uprising. The area which was under the Russian rule bordered in its western part the part of Poland which was under the Prussian rule. In 1939 in the night of the 3rd of September the Wermacht soldiers of the 24th German Division murdered in the village of Mączniki 17 innocent inhabitants of the villages of Mączniki and Ostrów Kaliski.

Conducted by "Olkusz" Speleological Club exploratory works related to the Gieńkówka cave led only to its partial opening. There are indications stating that this cave has continuation beyond its currently available parts. In order to verify those assumptions resistivity imaging method has been used. During analysis of the resistivity models obtained from field measurements the synthetic model, simulating the intersection of the cave corridor, has been utilized. In order to assess the reliability of resistivity cross sections in terms of the presence of artifacts left by the inversion process Depth of Investigation (DOI) index has been applied. For preparing DOI maps two inversions on the same data set were carried out using different reference models. Then the results were compared to each other. High resistivity anomalies revealed on obtained models show strong correlation with actual caves known in this area. In addition, similar anomalies have been found in place of the predicted continuity in Gieńkówka cave, thus confirming the hypothesis made in this research. High DOI index values in the occurrence of caves pointing to the instability of the inversion process in those areas.

Opis:
Eutrophication of the Baltic Sea is a serious problem, and as such it is frequently raised in relevant literature, where potamic supply of nutrients is implicated as one of the causes. Coastal waters like the Puck Lagoon, an area protected within the Natura 2000 network, as well as watercourses in adjacent Coastal Landscape Park, are particularly vulnerable to such degradation. Hence, the aim of our study, which was to determine the volume and fluctuations of transported total nitrogen and phosphorus. Another objective was to try and relate these changes to the transport of nutrients and runoff in streams flowing through Coastal Landscape Park into the Puck Lagoon (the Płutnica, Potok Błądzikowski, Gizdepka, Reda, Zagórska Struga) and into the Baltic Sea (the Piaśnica, Karwianka, Czarna Wda). This research drew on field investigations and laboratory assays performed in the hydrological year of 2009, and had been designed accordingly, including measurements of the flow rate in the selected watercourses and water sampling for further chemical analyses, including determinations of total nitrogen and total phosphorus. In brief, the highest average annual flow rate and load of total nitrogen and total phosphorus were found in the Reda and Piaśnica. The largest load variation, of both nitrogen and phosphorus, occurred in the Zagórska Struga. In most of the watercourses, the load of biogenic substances was strongly correlated with the flow, but the actual power of correlation depended on a stream and biogenes. The strongest statistical relationships for both tested substances (r > 0.8) occurred in the Potok Błądzikowski, Reda, Zagórska Struga and Czarna Wda. The Płutnica was an exception in that there were no statistically significant relationships between the water flow and the load of nutrients. However, the low value of the relationship determined suggests that we should view that series with some caution.
