    Introduction. The study presents the case report of a Wells Syndrome in a 18-year -ld female. Wells Syndrome is a rare inflammatory skin disorder which seems to present an abnormal eosinophilic response to a number of triggers. Objective. The aim of the study is to discuss several problems related to the diagnosis and treatment of Wells Syndrome. Materials and method. Medical examination, blood tests, abdominal ultrasound and skin biopsy were performed. Results. Medical examination revealed plaques with tense blisters on feet and erythematous lesions on trunk. Blood tests showed raised anti-streptolysin O level. Skin biopsy revealed features of eosinophilic cellulitis. Oral administration of 0.5 mg per day prednisolone and antihistaminics with local therapy resulted in good clinical response. Conclusions. Sometimes several biopsy are required to establish diagnosis. In some cases lower doses of corticosteroids with antihistaminics and local anti-inflammatory treatment can by sufficient in treatment.

    Celem pracy było określenie wpływu dodatku żurawiny oraz prędkości obrotowej ślimaka na wydajność, energochłonność procesu ekstruzji, a także gęstość w stanie usypowym i wskaźnik zdolności żelowania błyskawicznych kleików kukurydzianych. Pomiar wydajności procesu ekstruzji prowadzono poprzez określenie masy ekstrudatu uzyskanego w określonym czasie. Energochłonność procesu wyznaczano, wykorzystując wskaźnik jednostkowego zapotrzebowania energii mechanicznej (SME). Gęstość w stanie usypowym określono jako stosunek luźno usypanego ekstrudatu do zajmowanej przez niego objętości. Wskaźnik objętościowy żelowania wyznaczono jako stosunek objętości powstałego żelu do objętości suchej próby. Opierając się na wynikach przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że czynnikiem w większym stopniu wpływającym na wydajność i energochłonność procesu oraz gęstość w stanie usypowym była zmienna prędkość obrotowa ślimaka stosowana podczas wytwarzania kleików kukurydziano-żurawinowych. Wraz ze zwiększeniem prędkości obrotowej ślimaka wzrastała energochłonność i wydajność procesu ekstruzji oraz zmniejszała się gęstość w stanie usypowym ekstrudatów. Dodatek żurawiny w większym stopniu niż zmienna prędkość ślimaka wpływał na wskaźnik objętościowy żelowania, wraz ze zwiększeniem ilości dodatku wzrastała wartość tego wskaźnika.
    Cranberry fruits are nutritionally valuable, rich in bioactive components, especially anthocyanins and flavonoids. Cranberry fruits also reveal certain health-enhancing benefits as well as displaying antimicrobial, pain-killing, antiviral, antioxidant, antifungal, or anticancer action; they have impact on immunological systems and reduce the level of bad cholesterol in blood. The growing consumer awareness with regard to functional food consumption encourage food producers to create attractive products with addition of fruits and vegetables. The extrusion-cooking processing is suitable for production of functional food due to a very short time of treatment and low effect on bioactive components derived from fruits, vegetables or plants and herbs used as functional additives to foodstuffs. Thus, addition of dried fruits could be an effective way to enrich products with nutritionally valuable components and to create specific physical properties of extrudates. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of cranberry addition and screw speed applied on the selected properties of a gluten-free instant corn gruels. The extrudates were produced using the single screw extruder. Dried cranberry fruits were added in amount of 1–5% of corn grits. Blends were processed using various screw speed ranged 80, 100 and 120 rpm. Obtained extrudates were ground for instant gruels with granulation below 1 mm. During processing the efficiency and the energy consumption were evaluated as well as bulk density and volumetric gel index for obtained gruels depend on the screw speed applied and fruits addition level. The results showed higher impact of various screw speed during processing on the process efficiency as well as on the energy consumption. Statistical analyses showed high linear regression coefficients for processing efficiency and energy consumption. Likewise, more important effects of screw speed on these characteristics were observed than additive level, as higher F-test values were reached. As expected, the bulk density decreased with the higher screw speed applied what is a positive feature for extruded instant products. Values of volumetric gel index were strongly depended on the level of cranberry addition, as confirmed by higher value of F-test than for screw speed effect and increased with a higher amount of dried fruits in the recipe of instant corn-based gruels.

    The paper presents the results of a study on the water absorption capacity and solubility of biodegradable starch foams produced with single-screw extruder TS-45 with L/D=12. Two different moulding dies were used: one with a circular hole with the diameter of 3 mm and one with a ring hole with the inner diameter of 5 mm. During the extrusion process, the temperature of the cylinder ranged from 80 to 130°C and the screw speeds applied were: 100 and 130 rpm. For the application of the ring die, it was observed that regardless of the speed of the screw, the use of the raw material of higher moisture content led to the production of materials with higher solubility. As a result, the obtained materials revealed solubility at a level of 40%. The results demonstrate good solubility of the starchy fillers of the packaging, which may indicate their susceptibility to decomposition in the conditions of high ambient humidity. A statistical analysis showed a significant impact of moisture of the raw material on the WSI of starch foams used irrespective of the other parameters of the extrusion-cooking process. The raw material moisture had a significant effect on the water absorption capacity of only TPS foams produced in the ring die at the screw speed of 100 rpm.

    The objective of the paper was to determine the impact of the rotational screw speed and the level of moisture of raw material on the efficiency and energy consumption of the extrusion-cooking process. Measurement of the extrusion-cooking process efficiency (Q) was carried out through determination of the extrudates mass and energy consumption was determined with the use of a specific mechanical energy (SME). Based on the research results it was found out that the factor which significantly decides on the measured values was a rotational screw speed. Along with the increase of this parameter the energy consumption and extrusion-cooking process efficiency increased during processing of corn grits. Extrusion-cooking process efficiency depended also on the level of moisture of raw material. At lower moisture of raw material the efficiency decreased along with the increase of the screw speed and above 18% of the moisture level it increased. Reverse relation was reported during testing the energy consumption of the extrusion-cooking process.
    Celem pracy było określenie wpływu prędkości obrotowej ślimaka oraz poziomu dowilżenia surowca na wydajność oraz energochłonność procesu ekstruzji błyskawicznych kaszek kukurydzianych. Pomiar wydajności procesu (Q) ekstruzji przeprowadzono poprzez określenie masy ekstrudatu oraz pomiar energochłonności wyznaczano wykorzystując wskaźnik jednostkowego zapotrzebowania energii mechanicznej (SME). Opierając się wynikach badań stwierdzono, że czynnikiem istotnie decydującym o mierzonych wartościach była prędkość obrotowa ślimaka. Wraz ze zwiększeniem tego parametru wzrastała energochłonność oraz wydajności procesu ekstruzji. Wydajność procesu ekstruzji zależała również od poziomu dowilżenia mieszanki surowcowej. Przy niższych wilgotnościach surowców wydajność zmniejszała się wraz ze wzrostem prędkości obrotowej ślimaka, natomiast powyżej 18% dowilżenia wydajność procesu zwiększała się. Odwrotną zależność zaobserwowano podczas badania energochłonności procesu ekstruzji.

    W niniejszej pracy omówiono podział żywności dla dzieci, przedstawiono surowce, dodatki oraz metody produkcji kaszek i kleików zbożowych. Obecne trendy pokazują większe zainteresowanie żywnością funkcjonalną, która nie wymaga długiego czasu przygotowania oraz daje określone korzyści zdrowotne. Kaszki i kleiki zbożowe są to produkty w postaci sypkiej, otrzymywane z mąki ryżowej, pszennej, kukurydzianej, owsianej lub gryczanej. W celu zwiększenia wartości odżywczej stosuje się do nich dodatki, między innymi takie jak: witaminy, susz owocowy, mleko w proszku. Szybkie do przygotowania kaszki zbożowe mogą być wytwarzane przy zastosowaniu instantyzacji lub techniki ekstruzji. Instantyzacja jest procesem długotrwałym, kosztownym, dlatego coraz więcej uwagi poświęca się ekstruzji, która jest wykorzystywana do wytwarzania szerokiego asortymentu produktów zbożowych. Ekstrudowane odżywki dla dzieci charakteryzują się odpowiednimi walorami organoleptycznymi i wysoką wartością odżywczą. Zawierają w pełni skleikowaną skrobię, dzięki czemu nie wymagają gotowania i mogą być podawane bezpośrednio po dodaniu mleka lub wody.
    Current trends in food production show more interest in functional food that does not require a long preparation time and gives specific health benefi ts according to supplementation with pro-health components. Food manufacturers introduce products that contain plant materials and valuable additives, ensuring to provide the body with essential nutrients. Baby foods are often produced from gluten-free raw materials such as rice, corn, buckwheat and they are enriched with valuable nutrients, which are in accordance with nutrient requirements of young children. These products are intended for consumers suffering from food allergies and the partial disorders of the digestive system. The basic products being added to the extruded baby foods include milk powder, dried fruits, vitamins (C, D, A, E, K, niacin, folic acid) and minerals (calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, copper). Nutrients for children and infants should be produced from raw materials characterized by high quality, natural, derived from controlled farming and cultivars. Market of baby food is divided into some groups of products such as dairy products, processed non-dairy food, instant teas, supplementary products, i.e. teas designed for pregnant and breastfeeding women, ready-made meals for children over 1 year of age, as well as juices for children. The conventional production of infant gruels requires a long time treatment of raw materials and is energy-consuming that is why increasingly the extrusion-cooking being used, that is simpler, faster and less expensive. Extrusion-cooking is a process that involves treatment of bulk material under high pressure (up to 20 MPa) and high temperature (up to 200°C), which results in significant changes in physicochemical characteristic of product and its quality. Extrusion-cooking technology is used in the food industry for the production of various types of food products, such as snacks, instant cereals, baby foods, breakfast cereals, texturized vegetable protein, crisp bread, etc. Through the combination of process parameters and the use of variety of recipes it can be received wide range of products with the desired properties. The material inside the extruder undergoes starch gelatinization so extrudates are already precooked and do not require additional cooking. Instant gruels produced by the extrusion-cooking are easy to prepare by mixing with water or milk at the right temperature and there are ready to serve the children. With a fully automated production line products obtained during the extrusion-cooking are characterized by improved digestibility, high hygienic quality, long storage time and inhibited antiniutritional factors. By aligning the extrusion-cooking variable parameters it can be obtained products with a certain viscosity, density, water absorption and water solubility etc.

    Umiejętność wszechstronnej i obiektywnej oceny układu równowagi jest niezbędna do oceny postępów terapii i umiejętności równoważnych w sporcie. Niestety, wciąż bardzo niewiele osób zajmujących się fizjoterapią, leczeniem czy treningiem sportowym posiada wiedzę wystarczającą do przeprowadzenia badań równowagi i ich prawidłowej interpretacji. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie podstawowych pojęć, koncepcji i metod niezbędnych do prowadzenia tego typu badań. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na terminologię, ogólną interpretację sygnałów mierzonych za pomocą platformy sił podczas swobodnego stania oraz na przebieg procedur doświadczalnych.
    The ability to assess the postural performance and stability in a comprehensive and objective way is a prerequisite for the evaluation of progress in therapy or to judge about the significance of postural control in sports. However, neither therapists, clinicians, nor athletic trainers have sufficient skills to perform such assessment. The purpose of this paper is to present the basic notions and methods needed to perform such studies. Attention is focused on terminology, the general interpretation of time-series recorded during quiet stance on force plates and on the experimental procedures.
