Opis:
The species of downy willow (Salix lapponum) and swamp willow (Salix myrtilloides) are extremely rare relicts among all members of the genus Salix. In Poland, they occur only in the eastern part of the Karkonosze Mountains, Masurian Lake District, and Polesie Lubelskie area. A huge threat to both species is the drainage of peat bogs and their excessive exploitation as well as diseases caused by bacteria and fungi. The present study aimed identify fungal species colonizing the aboveground organs of plants with disease symptoms and to indicate which species may pose a threat towards S. lapponum and S. myrtilloides growing under natural conditions. This research was conducted in Polesie National Park as a part of a research project by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Plant health assessments were carried out in natural habitats, while aboveground organs with disease symptoms were collected for laboratory mycological analysis. Colletotrichum salicis (teleomorph Glomerella salicis), Coniothyrium concentricum, Cylindrosporium salicinum, Phomopsis spp., Truncatella angustata, and Cytospora chrysosperma (teleomorph Valsa sordida) were the fungal species most frequently isolated from leaves and shoots of both willow species. The above-mentioned fungi are dangerous plant pathogens from the family Salicaceae. There were no obligatory parasites or monophagous pathogens on the aboveground organs of downy or swamp willow. Obligatory parasites may indicate a markedly low population of host plants in Polish conditions.

The objective of undertaken studies was evaluation in vitro conditions efficiency of eight fungicides from different chemical groups and three preparations of natural origin i.e. Biosept Active, Beta-chikol and Bioczos towards isolate M 365 Boeremia strasseri, obtained from peppermint rhizomes showing symptoms of black rot. Test were performed by poisoning the culture media. The percentage of inhibition of the growth of four- and eight-day-old colonies on the medium with preparations in the control colonies was a measure of activity of the preparations. Moreover, the microscopic observations of morphological structures of fungus were conducted. Within chemical compounds trifloxystrobin, tiophanate methyl and mancozeb pointed to be the most effective. The effectiveness of Beta-chikol and Biosept Active in limiting B. strasseri colony growth was higher than the efficiency of Bioczos.

This work is a continuation of research on Diaporthe genus isolates obtained in 2010−2012 from fruit trees in Poland, which on the basis of previously conducted molecular tests, have been identified as one species belonging to the Diaporthe eres species complex. The aim of this study was to determine the morphology and pathogenic abilities of tested Diaporthe eres isolates. The experiment included cross tests, in which the shoots of apple, pear, cherry and plum trees were inoculated with each of the 4 isolates derived from each mentioned host plants. As a result of experiment, the pathogenic nature of D. eres in relation to the shoots of fruit trees, was confirmed. The isolates were also characterized on the basis of the colony appearance and spore dimensions. Morphological features of studied D. eres cultures were very similar, regardless of the isolate and the host plant, from which they were obtained. All tested isolates formed alpha and beta conidia having the same range size.

The purpose of the study was to determine which fungal species colonize the shoots of apple, pear, cherry, plum, apricot and peach in south-eastern Poland and whether Diaporthe (Phomopsis) isolates there are among them. The study was conducted in 2010–2012 and the plant material was collected from five orchards. In three of these chemical controls were carried out, while there was no protection applied in the other two. The results showed that species composition of the fungi was very similar regardless of host plant and year of study. Alternaria spp., Fusarium spp. and Phoma spp. were isolated most frequently from the studied shoots. Fungi cultures known for pathogenicity towards fruit trees such as Botrytis cinerea, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Leucostoma spp., Monilinia spp. and Neofabraea spp. were also isolated. Moreover, there were isolates of Diaporthe (Phomopsis) among the fungi present in the shoots. Cultures of these fungi were obtained both from shoots with disease symptoms and from visually healthy ones but mainly from shoots originating from unprotected orchards, what indicates their greater threat to fruit trees grown without chemical protection. This is the first documented report of the occurrence of Diaporthe (Phomopsis) on fruit trees in Polish conditions.

The paper presents the results of the influence of commercial TiBor and AlSr10 master alloys on the refine the grains size, hardness and crystallisation process based on the thermal-derivation analysis of light cast magnesium-lithium-aluminium alloys. The effects of TiBor and AlSr10 content on the characteristic parameters of the crystallisation process of Mg-Li-Al alloys were investigated by thermal-derivative analysis (TDA). Microstructural evaluations were identified by light microscope, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The results showed that the addition of TiBor master alloy reduced the grain size of Mg-9Li-1.5Al cast alloy from 900 μm to 500 μm, while the addition of AlSr10 master alloy reduced the grain size of investigated cast alloy from 900 μm to 480 μm. Moreover, an addition of TiBor and AlSr10 simultaneously reduced the grain size from 900 μm to 430 μm. Results from the thermal-derivative analysis showed that the addition of grain refinement causes a decrease in nucleation temperature and solidus temperature.

The paper shows the first study on the effect of nanoparticles against fungal pathogens of caraway. The fertilizers containing nanoparticles of copper, silver, and chitosan: Viflo® copper, Viflo Chitosol® Silver® Viflo Cal S and isolates KLM 1806 and KLM 1813 of Septoria carvi were used to the study. The percent of growth inhibition, development of S. carvi colonies and ability of Viflo® Cal to control plants against infection by S. carvi was adopted as the criterion of evaluation of the nanoformulations. The field experiment evaluated the effect of Viflo® Cal S to plant health in terms of the occurrence of S. carvi and Erysiphe heraclei, colonization of plant tissues by S. carvi and the yield of schizocarps. In vitro it has been shown that the tested formulations with nanoparticles limited the growth and development of the S. carvi and Viflo Cal® S at the concentration of 1 g·cm-3 was the inhibitor of mycelial growth. In climatic chamber Viflo Cal® S protect caraway’s seedlings against the infection by S. carvi. In vivo Viflo Cal S® significantly limited the severity of septoriosis and powdery mildew, which contributed to increase the size and quality of the caraway crop.
W pracy przedstawiono pierwsze badania nad oddziaływaniem nanopreparatów na grzyby patogeniczne dla kminku zwyczajnego. Uwzględniono nawozy dolistne zawierające nanocząsteczki miedzi, srebra i chitozan: Viflo® miedziowy, Viflo® Chitosol Silver, Viflo® Cal S oraz izolaty KLM 1806 i KLM 1813 Septoria carvi. Tests performed in 2013 and 2014 revealed the occurrence of three tick species parasitizing pet cats and dogs in the Wrocław Agglomeration. In total, 1,455 tick specimens were removed from 931 hosts (760 dogs and 171 cats) in 18 veterinary clinics. The dominant tick species was Ixodes ricinus (n=1272; 87.4%), followed by I. hexagonus (n=137; 9.4%) and Dermacentor reticulatus (n=46; 3.2%). Females were the most often collected development stage among I. ricinus and D. reticulatus, and nymphs among I. hexagonus. Additionally, D. reticulatus ticks (n=337) were then collected from vegetation in the Wrocław area to detect Babesia canis; however, none was found positive. Only 9.0% of dog blood samples sent to VETLAB were positive for Babesia spp. Negative results for B. canis from ticks may result from the short period of the occurrence of D. reticulatus in the Wrocław area and therefore the vectorpathogen cycle may not have been fully established at the time of the study. Nevertheless, D. reticulatus is expanding its range, and the size of its population in the Wrocław Agglomeration is increasing. The presence of the pathogenic Babesia spp. combined with the occurrence of its main vector¸ D. reticulatus, suggests that the epizootiological situation in the area can change and may pose a new veterinary problem in the future.

Opis:
During 2012–2014 in southeastern Poland the species Colletotrichum fuscum was isolated from the leaves of oregano (Origanum vulgare L.) showing the symptoms of necrotic, concentrically zoned spots with a lighter center and a slightly raised edge. Morphology of nine randomly chosen isolates from the fungus population and reference isolate CBS obtained from CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre were studied. Each isolate was cultured on PDA medium, at the temperatures 24°C for 14 days. The character of the cultures, the color of the averse and the reverse, the formation of morphological structures of the fungus, i.e. acervuli, conidia, appressoria and chlamydospores were studied. Ultrastructural observations of morphological structures were undertaken using scanning electron microscopy. The presence of setose acervuli, conidia, chlamydospores and appressoria was visible. Moreover, studies on the biotic effect between C. fuscum and other species of phyllosphere fungi of oregano showed that all tested fungi inhibited the growth of C. fuscum, but the size of the limiting effect was different. Fungi from genera Trichoderma and Clonostachys were found out to be the most effective and positive antagonists. Alternaria alternata, Botrytis cinerea and Fusarium spp. – despite the high values of IBE were considered negative antagonists.
W latach 2012–2014 w południowo-wschodniej Polsce z liści lebiodki pospolitej (Origanum vulgare L.) z nekrotycznymi, koncentrycznie strefowanymi plamami z jaśniejszym środkiem i lekko wzniesionym brzegiem wyizolowano Colletotrichum fuscum.

Repeated cultivation of caraway in the same agricultural regions creates favor-able conditions to develop infectious diseases which reduce the quantity and quality of the herbal material. The aim of the present research was to determine the composition of fun-gi species colonizing different organs of caraway variety Konczewicki. Observations of plant healthiness were carried out, in the years 2011–2013, on plantations in the region of central and eastern Poland. The one-spore cultures of fungi were identified with good re-sults on PDA or on standard media. A new fungus species Mycocentrospora acerina was detected for the first time in Poland. The fungus causes necrotic spots on the above-ground and underground parts of plants. An epidemic of caraway septoriosis caused by Septoria carvi occurred in the central region of Poland, during the hot and humid weather. At temperature reaching up to 28°C and low relative humidity an epidemic of powdery mildew Erysiphe heraclei appeared. Moreover, growing threat for caraway by Colleto-trichum spp., causing anthracnosis as well as by soil fungi, i.e. Sclerotinia sclerotiorumand Rhizoctonia solani was shown.
W regionie centralnej Polski podczas ciepłej i wilgotnej pogody występowała epidemia seproriozy kminku Septoria carvi.

Opis:
The seeds of forest trees usually transfer numerous fungi species, including pathogens, facultative parasites and saprotrophs. The aim of the present work was to determine qualitative and quantitative composition of fungi inhabiting the seeds of 10 trees species i.e.: birch (Betula pendula Roth.), beech (Fagus sylvatica L.), red oak (Quercus rubra L.), common oak (Quercus robur L.), sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.), black alder (Alnus glutinosa Gaerth.), fir (Abies alba Mill.), European larch (Larix decidua Mill.), pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and spruce (Picea abies (L.) H. Karst). The seed samples were obtained courtesy of 5 forest districts located in the south−eastern Poland. Mycological analysis was performed in the years 2012−2013. Each time, the study included 100 surface−disinfected seeds of particular plant species. As a result of the study about 2000 colonies of fungi representing 26 genera and above 39 species were isolated. The most frequently occurring species were: Fusarium spp., Penicillium spp., Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Trichoderma koningii, Epicoccum nigrum, Phoma spp. and Cylindrocarpon destructans. Moreover Discula spp., Phyllosticta spp., Pyrenochaeta spp., Rhizoctonia solani, Alternaria consortiale were obtained only from the seeds of deciduous trees while Truncatella angustata and Sphareopsis sapinea exclusively from the seeds of coniferous trees. The genus Fusarium was represented by 8 species and among them F. avenaceum, F. oxysporum and F. sporotrichioides dominated. Moreover Penicillium spp., Epicoccum nigrum, Trichoderma koningii, Botrytis cinerea, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Chaetomium globosum and Trichothecium roseum were commonly isolated while the other species of fungi were present in smaller numbers. Isolation of numerous fungi species which may cause mold of sowing material, seedling blight as well as leaves and needles spot, indicates their big threat for seeds during storage and for plants in the initial period of growth in a nursery. The obtained results show that the seeds, besides the infected soil, are a very important source of infection for young plants.

Opis:
This study from the Szczerców field of the Bełchatów open-cast mining complex, central Poland, reveals the local geomorphic and stratigraphic history of the Krasówka river palaeovalley – a major western tributary of the river Widawka. The data are from the western flank of the N-trending palaeovalley and the study combines detailed lithofacies analysis of outcrop sections, sediment petrology, AMS measurements and palynological evidence. Radiocarbon dates are of crucial importance for the reconstruction of the palaeovalley history. The study contributes to a better understanding of the response of the Central European river systems to the Vistulian Pleniglacial conditions. The Vistulian Pleniglacial sedimentation in the study area commenced with the accumulation of the latest Eemian to earliest Weichselian (≥45 ka) deposits by sheetwash processes in a local karstic topographic depression. The Krasówka river then formed to the east and shifted farther eastwards, but later approached twice the study area with a net aggradation prior to 43 ka BP – flooding it with overbank deposits. The river subsequently incised by nearly 20 m around 40 ka BP and began to fill in its valley by aggradation around 35 ka BP, while migrating eastwards and markedly decreasing its flooding capacity from 33 to 24 ka BP. The fluvial system was rejuvenated around 21 ka BP, with some initial erosion, and kept filling its valley by aggradation while flooding the valley flank. The river after filling its valley continued to aggrade, but gradually ran out of vertical accommodation and migrated westwards. The fluvial activity at this stage was increasingly accompanied by aeolian sedimentation. Once the Mid-Weichselian Pleniglacial came to an end around 14.5 ka BP, the Krasówka river had re-incised by nearly 5 m and assumed its present-day altitude in response to the post-glacial regional isostatic rebound of crustal basement.
