    W referacie zwrócono uwagę na potrzebę utrzymania zdolności użytkowej konstrukcji przez wymagany okres trwałości. Zapewnienie to może być dotrzymane tylko wtedy, gdy w realizację konstrukcji zaangażowany jest kompetentny personel. Wskazano na właściwe stosowanie norm przywołanych w wymaganiach kontraktu oraz na właściwą interpretację konieczności stosowania wymagań zawartych w normach. Odniesiono się do wybranych aspektów związanych kwalifikacjami i kompetencjami personelu w pracach antykorozyjnych i izolerskich. Zwrócono uwagę na pojęcia związane z kwalifikacjami i kompetencjami. Dokonano analizy zapisów norm w odniesieniu do wymagań dla personelu. Stwierdzono, że w wielu przypadkach wymagania te opisane są w normach w sposób bardzo ogólny. Dlatego też właściwym jest określanie w warunkach kontraktu pełnych i zrozumiałych dla wszystkich zainteresowanych stron kontraktu, wymagań odnośnie kwalifikacji i kompetencji personelu. Brak takich uzgodnień może prowadzić do nieporozumień pomiędzy stronami kontraktu. Przedstawiono przykłady szkoleń pozwalających podnieść poziom kompetencji personelu, a także propozycje niezależnych certyfikacji firm z zakresu antykorozji. Pokazano jako przykład, stosowane w Norwegii uregulowania dotyczące wymagań dla personelu antykorozji i izolacji. Zwrócono uwagę na możliwość uzyskania na rynku polskim międzynarodowych certyfikatów personelu i firm FRSIO.
    The paper highlights the need to ensure the serviceability of the structure for the required life. This assurance can only be met if competent personnel is involved in the execution. The correct application of the standards referred in the contract requirements and the correct interpretation of the need to apply the requirements of the standards were pointed out. Selected aspects related to the qualification and competence of personnel in anticorrosive and insulating works were referred to. Attention was drawn to concepts related to qualifications and competence. An analysis was made of the provisions of the standards in relation to the requirements for personnel. It was found that in many cases these requirements are described in the standards in a very general way. It is therefore appropriate to specify in the contract terms and conditions, complete and comprehensible to all contract stakeholders, the requirements for personnel qualifications and competences. Failure to do so can lead to misunderstandings between the contracting parties. Examples of training to improve the competence level of personnel are presented, as well as proposals for independent certification of companies in the field of anti-corrosion. As an example, the regulations applied in Norway regarding the requirements for anti-corrosion and insulation personnel were shown. Attention was drawn to the possibility of obtaining international certificates for personnel and FROSIO companies on the Polish market.

    The Year of the Four Emperors, as the period of civil wars in Rome after Nero’s death is often called, was the first major shake-up which affected the Roman state since a new system of rule, referred to as the Principate, had been established by Augustus. Following the imperial proclamation of Servius Sulpicius Galba, the governor of Spain (June 8th, 68) and the suicide of Nero (June 9th), the Roman state plunged into a profound political crisis. This was because the new emperor found no support either in the City itself, or among the soldiers of legions stationed on the Empire’s frontiers. On January 2nd, 69, Roman army on the Rhine hailed Aulus Vitellius, their commander, as the emperor. As Tacitus observed, this revealed the “secret of rule” (arcanum imperii) – namely one could become an emperor not only in the capital of the Empire but also on its remote periphery. Vitellius immediately began preparations for an armed contest with Galba. However, on January 15th, 69, the latter was murdered in Rome, and praetorians proclaimed M. Salvius Otho as the emperor.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest nierównościom ekonomicznym występującym wśród właścicieli ziemskich zamieszkujących powiat grodzieński w ostatnich latach XVIII w. Podstawę źródłową prowadzonych badań stanowią protokoły ofiary wieczystej na wojsko znanej też jako ofiara 10. grosza – wczesnego podatku dochodowego, którym objęci byli właściciele dóbr ziemskich oraz duchownych. Uzyskane rezultaty wskazują na bardzo wysokie zróżnicowanie majątkowe wśród badanej populacji. Obok nielicznej i bardzo bogatej elity na terenie powiatu licznie występowała drobna szlachta (3/4 badanej populacji), której majątki były tak małe, że zostały zwolnione z podatku ze względu na zbyt niskie dochody. Wartości współczynnika Giniego opisującego koncentrację dochodów w powiecie wynoszą ok. 0,95 i nie ulegają poważnym zmianom w przypadku modyfikowania sposobu kalkulowania dochodów.
    The article is devoted to economic inequalities among the landowners of the poviat of Grodno in the late eighteenth century. The source basis for the research is made up of the protocols of the Perpetual Offering to the Army, also known as the ‘offering of the tenth grosz’, an early income tax imposed on the owners of the secular and Church estates. The results show a very high wealth differentiation among the researched population. In addition to a small and very wealthy elite in the poviat, there was a large number of petty nobility (three-fourths of the surveyed population) with estates so small that they were exempted from the tax due to insufficient income. The Gini coefficient values describing the income concentration in the country are around 0.95 and do not change much when the method of income calculation is modified.

    Przyczyn wypadków i kolizji drogowych jest wiele, jednak nie zawsze zdarzenia te są zupełnie przypadkowe. Można odnaleźć zależności, które wskażą, jak im zapobiegać, np. poprzez modernizację infrastruktury drogowej. Działania zmierzające do podnoszenia bezpieczeństwa na drogach są trudne i nie zawsze przynoszą oczekiwane rezultaty, ale mimo wszystko należy je podejmować. Autorzy niniejszej monografii dołożyli wszelkich starań, aby zidentyfikować przyczyny zagrożeń na siedmiu najbardziej niebezpiecznych skrzyżowaniach w Łodzi. Ponadto opracowali propozycje modernizacji infrastruktury drogowej w taki sposób, żeby dążyć do wyeliminowania wypadków i kolizji zdarzających się na tych skrzyżowaniach.

    The biogas production constitutes one of renewable energy sources (RES) . In addition, wastes are preferred for energy production. In the case of some wastes, e.g. poultry manure, it is difficult to conduct anaerobic digestion in monofermentation. The aim of this work was to plan the biogas plant, in which the main substrate is the waste from a poultry farm. The scope of work included: preparation of a biogas plant technological project, determining the amount of biogas and methane that can be produced annually on the example of the selected poultry farm, performing the energy and financial calculations for the current conditions prevailing on the renewable energy market in Poland. The installation project assumed the location of a biogas plant at an existing poultry farm – the source of the substrate. The micro-biogas plant includes a fermentation tank with a capacity of 500 m3 and storage of digestate pulp with a capacity of 700 m3. The assumed power biogas plant will generate 112 kW of electricity and 120 kW of heat. The installation will operate in a single-stage mesophilic technology (39 °C), which will avoid incurring additional costs related to heating and the construction of additional fermentation tanks. The use of poultry manure by anaerobic digestion provides benefits through biogas technology. It is necessary to examine the technology in terms of biogas production, which is carried out under better sanitary and environmental conditions. This work was undertaken to investigate the environmentally friendly removal of poultry manure through biogas technology to obtain the best economic effect, and employ it further, e.g. as a fertilizer.

    The origin of the Piast dynasty is a matter of lively discussions and disputes. At least a few controversial hypotheses exist, but their credibility is difficult to assess due to the scarcity of written as well as material sources, especially from the time of Polish state formation. Life sciences, however, can support history and archeology. Application of genetic tests, used earlier mainly in forensic laboratories, enabled identification of the remains of King Richard III, the Romanov dynasty members and Nicolaus Copernicus. Contemporary DNA studies, based on next generation DNA sequencing, outreach the narrow area of known markers such as mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and selected regions of Y chromosome. Although ancient DNA (aDNA), extracted from remains, is usually highly degraded and contaminated with genetic material of microorganisms, there are methods which allow for the analysis of such material and retrieval of information about origin, kinship and some phenotypic features of an individual. Genetic studies of the Piast dynasty, a subject of our research project, have to deal with numerous difficulties. In or der to gain access to bone samples, we need to meet a number of formal requirements. Moreover, despite the existence of available abundant documentation on the Piast burials, the actual situation is not always consistent with the written sources. Our first experiences show how difficult it is to localize the remains, identify them and extract DNA of sufficient quality.
