- The amperometric biosensor developed for the purpose of the study involved alcohol oxidase as a selective element and an oxygen monitor as a physical signal transducer. The enzyme was isolated from a mutant strain of methylotrophic yeast defective in catalase activity (the strain had also been grown for the needs of our study). The investigations substantiated the utility of the biosensor in methanol determinations. The wastewater under test was made up of the effluents from the Kędzierzyn Chemical Plant. The sensitivity of the method and the interval for the development of maximal output was 0.03 mmol/dm3 and 0.2 to 0.7 minutes, respectively.
