Opis:
The article presents knowledge based on investigation of sandstones or siltstones composition from the Paleogene flysch terrains in North-East Slovakia. Samples of frequently crumbling clastic rocks were commonly considered to be close to sandstones, composed by predominant quartz. The set of such samples, belonging to Dukla Unit Sandstones were analyzed using the XRD analyses. Beside of quartz the diffraction patterns gave the evidence in significant carbonate share with some minor to minute feldspars, mica and chlorite contents. Among majority of analyzed samples we distinguish three groups of sandstones: (1) with the abundant calcite admixture, (2) the sandstones which contain meaning dolomite portion. The group (3) is representing the samples is formed the same by quartz as by both of carbonates, each of them could form important up to prevailed mineral component. Comparison of analyzed samples mineral composition shows remarkable trend of higher calcite and dolomite contents in younger clastic sediments.

Opis:
Field study as well as, mineralogical-petrological and chemical investigations of veins, occurring in rocks surrounding the Pieniny Clipping Belt, on both Poland and Slovakia sides, have been performed. Their aim was to recognize the symptoms of the secondary mineralization of the rocks, as well as their chemical composition, particularly, the presence of trace elements. The attempt of initial recognition of the possible geochemical aureoles in surroundings of both Pieniny andesites and Pieniny Clipping Belt has been undertaken. According to the chemical analyses of the vein mineral constituents, separated from the rocks, the increased concentrations of metals, particularly Pb, have been found. The determined concentrations of Pb were six times higher than observed in the rocks of andesite type, or even ten times as high as those in sandstones. Within Pieniny region some geochemical associations of elements like Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn have been found, especially, in rocks hydrothermally altered.

Crystals of pyroxene, plagioclase and ilmenite, present at andesite from Fintice, Eastern Slovakia – were examined using the traditional chemical analysis, polarizing light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy with EDS detect or and R am an spectroscopy. Special attention was paid to geochemical determination of rock forming phases crystal growth and to stages of its crystallization. Obtained data were used for reconstruction of these phases crystallization i.e. phases of alternation because of magma chemistry.

Opis:
Strong tectonic remobilisation and shear zone development are typical features of the easternmost part of the Veporicum tectonic unit in the Western Carpathians. The granodiorite mylonites in the area of the Rolovská shear zone (Čierna hora Mts) underwent a complex polystage evolution during the Hercynian and Alpine orogenies. Deformation during the latter reached greenschist facies under metamorphic conditions. Mylonites are macroscopically foliated rocks with a stretching lineation and shear bands. Structurally different mylonite types, ranging from protomylonites to ulramylonites with typical grainsize reduction from the margins towards the shear zone centre, have been assessed. The modal mineralogy of the different mylonite types changes considerably. Typical is a progressive decrease in feldspar content and simultaneously the quartz and white mica content increases from protomylonites towards the most strongly deformed ultramylonites. The deformation had a brittle character in less deformed rocks and a ductile one in more deformed tectonites. Obvious chemical changes occur in mesomylonites and ultramylonites. During mylonitisation, the original biotite granodiorite was depleted of Mg, Fe, Na, Ca and Ba, while K, Rb and mainly Si increased considerably. Other (major and trace) elements reflect erratic behaviour due to lateral mobility. Chemical changes indicate the breakdown and subsequent recrystallisation of biotite and feldspars and, in turn, the crystallisation of albite and sericite. REE decrease in ultramylonites due to the breakup of accessory minerals during deformation and alteration.

Opis:
Field and as mineralogical and petrographical examinations of sedimentary rocks present in the area surrounding the Pieniny Klippen Belt were performed. The aim of these investigations was to identify the symptoms of hydrothermal processes within the studied rocks. Moreover, the areas prospective for the occur- rences of geothermal waters, alternative source of thermal energy instead of traditional power production using fossil fuels, were indicated. Analytical investigations were focused mainly on mineralogical composition of rocks as well as on the frequency of occurrences of various veins (mainly built of carbonate minerals) intersecting the rocks from the neighbourhood of Neogene andesitic rocks from the Pieniny Klippen Belt. The highest quantity and thickness of the veins was observed in the rocks from the area of Piekiełko stream near Krościenko. The clastic rocks (sandstones) from this area contain many fractures which are crucial for potential geothermal water circulation.
