- The houses with their frontages along Kanonicza Street are forming one of the most ancient complexes of historical buildings in Cracow. The complex as a whole may be dated as early back as to the fo urte enth- fifteenth centuries and considered as one preserving up to our day its relatively unaltered pattern. Works aimed at rehabilitation of the above mentioned complex were preceded by a wide range of many- sided studies and surveys. They provided th e designing team with a great deal of necessary knowledge as to historical values present in the separate buildings as well as th a t in the field of techniques applied, demography and even legal questions. Apart from careful and extensive archival studies and inquieries an equally wide range of surveys has been carried out by architects. These, however, were extremely difficult as the houses forming th e complex are inhabited which the fact made in many instances impossible the investigations of their interiors. Nevertheless, it is namely this good knowledge of all objects th a t makes possible the preparation of a series of appropriate designs.
