Opis:
The following paper analyzes the theme of homosexual paternity. It analyzes Mazzucco’s novel on three different levels: the legal and social context, the gender perspective, and the level of literary and artistic symbols. In each of these areas we can observe the importance given to traditional paternity, seen as legal power or divine creation of the men. On the contrary, homosexual paternity is excluded by law, denied as containing maternal elements, and endowed with modest symbolic power.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to show some analogies between the rites of passage - of the initiation to the adult life - in the traditional or archaic societies, as described by A. Gennep and V. Turner (three phases: separation, transition and reincorporation), and the behavior, actions, gestures and reactions of young characters in analyzed literature. The young protagonists instinctively follow almost identical pattern of the first two phases of the rites of passage. The third one may be missing, because of the “emerging adulthood”, i.e., a new stage of becoming adult, as proposed by J.J. Arnett. The remarkable difference is also that the young protagonists are never accompanied by the elders, as it happened in the archaic or traditional societies. Key words: contemporary Italian prose, young writers, rites of passage

The aim of the paper is to analyse, using the structuralist approach, the structure of the male characters in L’arte della gioia by Goliarda Sapienza and the meaning—universal or local, symbolic or real—attributed by the writer to them, through the example of six male figures. This approach allows us to delve into the literary text, leaving the biographical, historical, and ideological context outside of the analysis, focusing on internal dynamics that are purely literary. Modesta’s father and her husband, as universal figures of a patriarchal system, illustrate and symbolise the subversion of its laws by Modesta. Modesta’s lovers, Carmino and Carlo, are models of real accomplishments of important male roles (father, husband, lover) whose representation is limited by geopolitical stereotypes. Pietro, Modesta’s loyal gabellotto, embodies local, Sicilian relationships and, as a result, he symbolises the persistence of archaic laws of Sicilian society. With Prando, Modesta’s son, Sapienza realistically illustrates the passage from adolescence to masculinity by showing some universal rules that occur in this transition. The structure of the male characters turns out to be geometric and very clear and is proof of the writer’s great literary awareness and writing skills.

Opis:
The paper aims to show the extent to which the female protagonists of Isabella Santacroce’s novels are the realizations of the symbolic image of the fille fatale, present in the culture, literature and art of the twentieth century. The characters created by Isabella Santacroce seem to be eternally at the age of transition between the childhood and adulthood. Their beauty is irregular, disturbing, ambiguous and sometimes demonic. As well as the nymphs, last larval stage, they are fascinating, attractive and dangerous at the same time, as the harmless destructiveness is their main trait. Between the others versions of the twentieth-century fille fatale, the Santacroce’s female protagonists are definitely more libertine, what seems to be Tondelli’s heritage.

Opis:
The article About the Symbiosis of the Space and the body on the example of „Treno di panna” and „Tecniche di seduzione” by Andrea De Carlo is the analysis of space related to physicality in two novels by a contemporary Italian writer. An animate body expressing emotions and succumbing to the influences of the milieu’s moods becomes engaged in bilateral relations with space; the body integrates with it as well as interferes in it, exceeding its own spatial constraints. The article is also a suggestion to read contemporary Italian prose through the prism of the theory of a German neophenomenologist Hermann Schmitz. The most important issues of Schmitz’s theory are presented and illustrated from the literary perspective: the notion of the Lieb i.e. the body which is alive, dynamic and perceives; the notion of feelings seen as atmospheres which are spatial feelings; and the concept of the living space. The analyzed examples illustrate the compatibility of the Italian writer’s literary intuition with the newest philosophical theories.

Opis:
The article devoted to novel La lunga vita di Marianna Ucrìa of Dacia Maraini constitutes a reflection upon cognition by means of senses. The analysis concerns the experience of cognition of the world (people, situations, places) by the main character, deaf and dumb person, whose sensual cognition of the reality is dominated by the sense of sight and smell. The analysis concentrates on the character of smelling sensations, indicating their crucial but forgotten function of the contact with the reality and its interpretation. The article highlights the problem of non verbality and non-divisibility of perceptions of the sense of smell, which the author of the novel Dacia Maraini faced.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to analyze the meanings of the voice in the novel mentioned in the title in relation to Adriana Cavarero’s thought. Following the presentation of the work, the article examines two different manifestations of the voice in the text: the singing voice and the discursive voice. The former confirms the patriarchal association of women with the body but sometimes it also appears as a space of freedom from oppression. The latter, which is denied to the protagonist, symbolizes women’s exclusion from logos.

The characteristic moments of these descriptions such as, for example, abundance, satisfying sensual needs, celebrating and feasting as well as the evaluation of the described phenomena, in these distant texts of culture, are very similar to each other. Italian television advertisement appears as another contemporary image of the land of bliss Cuccagna.

Carnival rules in Bakhtin's understanding as a system of inversions of the hierarchy of rules concerning the most varied aspects of life and culture is a key to comprehend the texts and pictures of Italian TV advertisement of the 1990s which appears as an element of carnivalization of modern Italian culture. Mésalliance and family relationships between people, values and concepts which are distant from one another in the hierarchy, profanations and lowering present themselves in advertisements as examples of carnival inversions on the vertical axis. However, the topsy-turvy world is a polar inversion on the inside-outside axis. Masks and travesties covering the reality mean directing to the inside what is usually outside. Eccentric behavior and attitudes determine a reverse direction of polar carnival inversions, however ambivalent pictures make distant semantic fields close. Carnivalization of Italian TV advertisement confirms a thesis about carnivalization of postmodern culture.

The Deconstruction of Male Figures in the “Young Writers”’ Fiction of the End of Twentieth Century The aim of the article is to present the image of male protagonists in the literature written by some of so-called “young writers” of the 80s and 90s in Italy. These authors deprive the male figure of his traditional attributes of authority and power. They achieve this aim by realizing textual strategies such as a metaphorical attempt on the patriarch or an attack on other’s male authority, by a visualization of the masculinity as uncompleted or prosthetic, and by a victimization of the male protagonist. Key words: Italian literature of the 80s and 90s, male protagonist, crisis.

The aim of thise paper is to show how the setting out of the narrative voice determines the historical discourse. The analysis of the narrative voice leads to some considerations about memory and to the examination of recollection in these two novels. That, in turn, allows an exploration of the way in which the historical discourse is constructed. In those cases where the voice in the historical discourse is given to subaltern subjects, they contribute to a more plural history.
