    The article investigates the problem of assurance of the required capability of robotized process of placing of steel inserts in a casting die. Dependence enabling the determination of the repeatability positioning of the robot, which has been verified in experimental tests is presented. A method to determine the most beneficial location in a workspace of the assembly stand ensuring the highest value of multivariate quality capability index MCp is also proposed. In the final part, the results are discussed and conclusions are formulated.

    Assurance of required casting quality is an important element of the manufacturing process. The control should be realized fast, accurately and cheap. These requirements may be fulfilled by application of an industrial robot to realize the measuring process. In the article the methodology of capability assessment of robotized system to control specified casting feature based on analysis of repeatability and reproducibility is presented. It is demonstrated that industrial robots produced serially have the accuracy allowing for their application to control process of both die-casting and pressure casting dimensions.

    In the article the problem of assurance of qualitative capability of the preparation process of casting moulds using artificial neural net-works is presented. Using STATISTICA Neural Networks a set of the best networks is found. Obtained results of neural modeling were compared with the results of experimental investigations and classical mathematical modeling. The appropriate architecture of the neural network is chosen that predicts the quality capability of the preparation process of casting moulds with the high precision.

    W celu określenia zużycia wierteł podczas ich eksploatacji, przy stałych parametrach skrawania, w czasie jednego przyjętego okresu trwałości, przeprowadzono serię badań trwałościowych wierteł wykonanych ze stali szybkotnącej HS2-5-1. Badania prowadzono podczas obróbki otworów na próbkach z żeliwa sferoidalnego ENGJS-500-7 o twardości 200 HB. Obserwacje zużycia prowadzano na wszystkich elementach części skrawającej wiertła. Oceny stopnia zużycia dokonywano na podstawie maksymalnych liniowych wielkości zużycia na rozpatrywanych powierzchniach. Maksymalne zużycie zaobserwowano na powierzchni przyłożenia, w miejscu przecięcia jej z powierzchnią łysinek. Zużycie na powierzchni przyłożenia zmniejsza się w kierunku osi wiertła i ma kształt trójkąta. Zużycia powierzchni natarcia nie zaobserwowano. Podczas eksploatacji wierteł z różnymi parametrami skrawania utrata ich skrawności następuje dla różnych wartościach wskaźników zużycia.
    To determine the wear of drills during their operation, at constant cutting parameters during the one approved tool life under the cut, a series of durability tests of drills made of HS2-5-1 were carried out. The study was conducted during the machining of holes on the samples made of cast iron ENGJS-500-7 with a hardness of 200 HB. Observations of the wear were carried out on all elements of the cutting part of the drill. The evaluation of the wear degree was performed according to the maximum line wear size on the analysed surfaces. The maximum level of the wear was observed on the tool flank at their intersection with the surface of the drill margin. The size of the tool flank wear decreases in the direction of the drill axis and has the shape of a triangle. The wear of the rake face was not observed. During the drill’s operation with different cutting parameters, a loss of their cutting ability occurs for different values of wear indicators.

    Organization of the tooling service mainly depends on the profile of the production plant. In large enterprises the important problem are both the organization of the tooling service and tool flow. For realized manufacturing process besides the flow tools process the correct selection of the cutting parameters is also important. In mechanical working operations, an important issue is to select the tools that will limit the size of the designated production pace and provide for them the required tool life. The aim of this study is to analyze the wear of cutting tools on the production line of bodies at the metallurgical plant. Cutting tools used for this line are mainly drills, milling cutters and multi-blade inserts for face milling cutters and end mills. The paper presents the analysis of tool wear on the machining line of brackets. It has been shown that the cost of tool wear is about 4.2% of production costs of parts. It corresponds to the costs reported in the literature. The proper selection of the machining parameters makes it possible to reduce these costs.

    In this paper, we presents the results of investigations studied the cutting ability and grindability of selected high-speed steels. We analysed the effect of the austenitization temperature on the grain size, the amount of retained austenite and percentage of retained austenite in HS3-1-1 steel. Furthermore, the investigations concerned on the efficiency of the keyway broaches during the whole period of operation were carried out. It was found that the value of average roughness parameter increases together with increases in the grinding depth. The investigations also show the influence of tempering conditions on the volume of carbide phases in HS3-1-1 steel.

    To determine the effect of drill wear on the value of the axial force and cutting torque, a series of durability tests of drills with a diameter of 10 mm made of high-speed steel HS2-5-1 were carried out. The investigations were conducted during the durability period and at constant values of cutting parameters. The tests were carried out while drilling holes in samples made of C45 steel and EN-GJS-500-7 cast iron. The dynamics of wear on all parts of the drill was also determined. It has been shown that while drilling with different values of cutting parameters, there is a loss of machinability for different values of the wear indicators. While drilling with high cutting speeds and with small feeds, there is a loss of cutting ability in the area of accelerated wear. The application of TiN coating does not change the controlled wear locations. TiN coating only reduces the intensity of wear on the tool flank, which increases the durability of the drill.
    W celu określenia wpływu zużycia wierteł na wartość siły osiowej oraz momentu skrawania przeprowadzono serię badań trwałościowych wierteł o średnicy 10 mm wykonanych ze stali szybkotnącej HS2-5-1, przy stałych parametrach skrawania, w czasie jednego przyjętego okresu trwałości. Badania prowadzono podczas obróbki otworów na próbkach ze stali C45 oraz z żeliwa ENGJS500-7. Określono również dynamikę zużycia na wszystkich częściach skrawających wiertła. Wykazano, że podczas eksploatacji wierteł z różnymi parametrami skrawania, utrata ich skrawności następuje dla różnych wartości wskaźników zużycia. Podczas wiercenia z dużymi prędkościami skrawania i małymi posuwami, utrata skrawności wiertła następuje w obszarze przyspieszonego ich zużycia. Naniesienie powłoki TiN nie zmienia kontrolowanych miejsc zużycia a tylko zmniejsza intensywność zużycia na powierzchni przyłożenia, co powoduje wzrost trwałości wiertła.

    Ensuring the required quality of castings is an important part of the production process. The quality control should be carried out in a fast and accurate way. These requirements can be met by the use of an optical measuring system installed on the arm of an industrial robot. In the article a methodology for assessing the quality of robotic measurement system to control certain feature of the casting, based on the analysis of repeatability and reproducibility is presented. It was shown that industrial robots equipped with optical measuring systems have the accuracy allowing their use in the process of dimensional control of castings manufactured by lost-wax process, permanent-mould casting, and pressure die-casting.

    The article presents an analysis of the macrostructure and mechanical properties of spot welds of joints made by Refill Friction Spot Stir Welding (RFSSW) method. RFSSW is a relatively new technology that is gaining wider use, not only in the automotive and aviation industries because it is a less energy intensive method than resistance spot welding. The primary focus of the article is the effect of welding time on the quality of the welded joints of sheet metal using the aforementioned method. The research was conducted on a joint between two pieces of sheet metal of various thicknesses (1.6 mm and 0.8 mm) made of a common aviation grade aluminium alloy 7075-T6 Alclad. Metallographic sections of select variants were made in order to analyze the structure of the joint. Strength tests with a static load were conducted in different loading configurations. A traditional tensile strength test was conducted on the lap joint, which revealed a complex stress state within the joint and an analogous test was conducted with the use of a stiffening holder that ensured a pure shear state in the joint. Peel tests were also performed on the lap joints with using a special holder.

    This article presents the results of investigations of the effect of heat treatment temperature on the content of the carbide phase of HS3-1-2 and HS6-5-2 low-alloy high-speed steel. Analysis of the phase composition of carbides is carried out using the diffraction method. It is determined that with increasing austenitising temperature, the intensification of dissolution of M6C carbide increases. As a result, an increase in the grain size of the austenite and the amount of retained austenite causes a significant reduction in the hardness of hardened steel HS3-1-2 to be observed. The results of diffraction investigations showed that M7C3 carbides containing mainly Cr and Fe carbides and M6C carbides containing mainly Mo and W carbides are dissolved during austenitisation. During austenitisation of HS3-1-2 steel, the silicon is transferred from the matrix to carbides, thus replacing carbide-forming elements. An increase in a degree of tempering leads to intensification of carbide separation and this process reduce the grindability of tested steels.

    In this paper, the effect of the errors induced by temperature changes on the repeatability positioning error of an industrial robot is analysed. It has been shown that after the stabilization of the thermal conditions, these errors can be identified with the systematic errors. It has also been shown that if the ambient temperature cannot be sufficiently stabilized, the temperature errors can be described using a normal or uniform probability distribution. Depending on the choice of a point in the robot’s workspace and temperature fluctuations, these errors can comprise a small share of the total error of the robot. Then the total repeatability positioning error can be approximated with sufficient accuracy by a normal probability distribution or it can comprise the dominant component of this error. In this case, the total error can be approximated using a flat normal distribution. It has been shown that, depending on the choice of location in the workspace in which the assembly operation is carried out, it is possible to obtain both different probabilities of assembling the parts correctly and a different effect of errors caused by slight temperature changes on the value of those probabilities. The results found indicate the potential possibility of increasing the reliability of the process by proposing the selection of the location in the robot workspace which has the lowest sensitivity to errors ascribed to changes in temperature.
    W niniejszej pracy przeanalizowano wpływ zmiany temperatury na błąd powtarzalności pozycjonowania robota przemysłowego. Wykazano, że po ustabilizowaniu się warunków termicznych błędy te można sklasyfikować jako błędy systematyczne. Wykazano również, że jeżeli w trakcie eksploatacji zrobotyzowanego stanowiska montażowego temperatura otoczenia nie może być wystarczająco ustabilizowana, błędy temperatury można opisać za pomocą jednostajnego rozkładu prawdopodobieństwa i w ten sposób uwzględnić w strukturze całkowitego błędu powtarzalności pozycjonowania. Błędy te na ogół stanowią niewielki udział w całkowitym błędzie robota, wówczas całkowity błąd powtarzalności pozycjonowania robota z dostateczną dokładnością można aproksymować normalnym rozkładem prawdopodobieństwa. W przeciwnym przypadku błąd ten może być przybliżony przy użyciu rozkładu płasko-normalnego. Wykazano że w zależności od wyboru miejsca realizacji zabiegu montażowego w przestrzeni stanowiska można uzyskać zarówno odmienne wartości prawdopodobieństwa połączenia części jak i różny wpływ błędów wywołanych niewielkimi zmianami temperatury na wartość tego prawdopodobieństwa. Uzyskane wyniki badań wskazują na potencjalne możliwości zwiększenia niezawodności procesu poprzez wybór miejsca w przestrzeni roboczej stanowiska charakteryzującego się najniższą wrażliwością na błędy spowodowane zmianami temperatury.

    This article discusses the issue of the preparation of the foundry moulds with the use of an industrial robot. The methodology is presented for the determination of the process capacity index for placing inserts with flat and cylindrical faces. On the basis of the relationships developed, the process capability indices were determined at various points in the workspace, which are characterised by different values of the repeatability positioning error. It was shown that the value of the process capacity index can be increased by the selection of a suitable location for the process of placing the inserts in the workspace. It should also be noted that the value of the process's capability index depends on the selection of the place in the robot workspace where the process is carried out. Implementation of the joining process at an analysed point in the robot workspace leads to an increase of the process capability index MCp for inserts with flat faces up to 1.1 (+4.5%) and for inserts with cylindrical faces up to 1.3. This results in an increase of 13% to a level corresponding to the global standard for process reliability (MCp = 1.33).
