Opis:: The object of consideration in this article are TV series present on the Polish media market, produced since the 1990s until today. The series are both American and Polish. In this article they are considered as symbolic communities. I scrutinize the characters presented in each of the series to demonstrate that they impersonate television myths belonging to a wider symbolic process of creating television mythologies. By conceiving series’ characters as symbolic constructions I attempt to answer the question, what those popular series myths tell us and what kind of communities emerge around them.

Opis:: The paper deals with the problem of the limits of the television created worlds which determine cultural identities of blurred cultural and medial borderlines. The concept of a border in cultural-and-medial space is seen in this paper as a communicational, negotiable game. What I offer here is a review of the ways television viewers can be able to trespass the television-set limits, how they can create virtual communities and cultural identities. My perspective is basically Polish, based on analyses of Polish communication practices.

Opis:: This paper concerns the idea of cultural borders in television broadcast. If we assume that television not only spreads culture, but also creates culture in a wide anthropological sense, we can ask what kind of culture is created by television and what are its limitations. The article discusses the role of television broadcasting in creating and destructing cultural borders. The main issue of this article is to show the role of TV images in experiencing heterogeneity and multiculturalism of the world expressed in TV news broadcast from various regions.

Opis:: This article considers whether the popular Polish drama-crime television series Ojciec Mateusz [Father Matthew], which is directed by Maciej Dejczer and has been broadcast on TVP1 since 2008, prompts viewers to reflect on Christian moral norms. This research includes the fields of cultural studies and moral theology. From the point of view of moral theology, the theme of Ojciec Mateusz is the battle between good and evil, the basis of which is the tenets of the Decalogue. This study attempts to answer the questions: Is the religiosity hidden in this series, which does not assume the religiosity of the series’ viewers, evoke religious sentiments among those who believe? And, does the series affect the moral formation of those who do not believe?

Opis:: The subject of this article is an ideological aspect of Pan Tadeusz, directed by Ryszard Ordyński (based on a script by Andrzej Strug and Ferdynand Goetel) as a film adaptation of Adam Mickiewicz’s poem. Picture was realised in 1928 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of regaining of national independence by Poland. Main goal of this article is to reflect in what ways filmmakers of Pan Tadeusz tried to implement a project of Polish national cinema. I also want to present how this film expressed social needs, programme specifications of political power camp and how it explored national values in the cinema.
